"This one's for you, honey."
Tess looked up from her breakfast. Her mother was sorting the morning mail; she held out a white envelope toward Tess.
"Who's it from?" asked Tess, taking the letter.
"It doesn't say. Maybe it's from the college."
Tess frowned at the front of the envelope. Tipton had a special return address logo; this probably wasn't from her future school. The corner of the envelope read NON-PROFIT ORG. Curious, she tore open the flap, pulled out the page inside. When she unfolded it, she realized what it was; the letterhead read RoadForward. It was a hand-written letter, and as Tess read, her eyes welled with tears.
Dear Ms. Morrison,
Thank you for your generous contribution of $2,000 to RoadForward in memory of Julia Nadine Morrison. We were touched by your story and your desire to make an impact on other families who have suffered the life-changing loss of loved ones due to traffic accidents.
As you know, RoadForward is focused on reducing the number of deaths resulting from traffic incidents on our nation's roads. Most of our resources are aimed at education and awareness initiatives to equip drivers and pedestrians with the skills to avoid dangerous situations on the road—and to react quickly and correctly when they do—so that, as a community, we can reduce the risk of accidents, injuries, and deaths. We also provide services such as grief counseling to families coping with the sudden loss of a loved one in a traffic-related incident. These services are leveraged by thousands of people every year.
Your donation will help us invest in these initiatives, enabling us to continue this critical work. Each dollar will touch many lives, Tess. Thank you.
Although the loss of your sister is a pain that will never truly heal, may her memory be with you always and bring you joy.
Sincerely,
Odette LaMountain
Executive Director, RoadForward
