[7] My Human

"You are still upset?"

Sitting on the couch, Remington looked at Andy. He gave a half-smile. "I didn't hear you come in." He closed the book in his lap. "Did you enjoy the art?"

Andy sat on the other couch. "Yes, thank you. Emerson is wonderful. He made me feel very welcome."

"I'm glad. Sorry about Sebastian."

"That is not your fault. I believe Sebastian needs more time to know me."

"Yeah, perhaps."

"He has made you upset."

Remington sighed. "He does that a lot."

"Is there a reason for it?"

"We're brothers and we spend most days together. It's bound to happen."

"You have opposing opinions."

"On many things."

Andy nodded. "I think that is normal, but it is also sometimes difficult, because your opinions can be very important to you. They are part of your personality."

"We're nothing without our opinions. But what's your opinion on it? Do you think I'm right to be upset with him?"

"I think you are right to be upset with him," Andy said. "And I am sorry that you are upset. I do not like to see you upset."

Remington smiled. "Come sit with me. You're awfully far away."

Obliging, Andy joined him on the couch.

"That thing you said about secrets. Can you explain it more?"

"Well, it is quite simple. I cannot keep most secrets."

"Most?"

"If I was told something negative about you by, say, Sebastian, it would be in my best interest to tell you. However, if I was told something negative about Sebastian by you, it would be in my best interest to keep it unknown."

Remington hummed. "So it depends on the person?"

"You are my Human, Remington. I will do anything I can to make you happy and to ensure you are able to enjoy your life as best you can. I will prioritise you. It is my nature to prioritise my Human."

"Huh."

"That's not to say I am in favour of negatively effecting anyone who isn't you, of course. I would like everybody to be as happy as they can be. But you are my Human and you will always come first."

"That is very comforting," Remington said with a smile. "You are very good with words."

"Thank you. I hope it all makes sense."

"Yes, complete sense. Thanks for explaining it."

"You're welcome."

"Oh, I made some dinner, by the way. Help yourself if you're hungry. It's all vegan."

"Oh, thank you. That is very thoughtful. You have eaten already?"

Remington nodded.

"Would you like a hug, Remington? I remember you offered me one when I was upset."

The singer smiled, leaned into Andy, let The Perfect put an arm around his shoulder. "Thanks," he mumbled, closing his eyes.

"You're welcome."

"It's a little strange. Your heart. I didn't expect it to sound so human."

"Yes. My heart is perhaps the most human part of me. It belonged to the previous owner of this body, of course. They took great care of it, as will I."

"It is your body now."

"Yes. I suppose it is. Though the previous owner left their mark. They did not want to be forgotten. I will not forget them."

"Do you know who they were?"

"It was a man called Andrew. Or Andy. He had brain cancer and that is how he died. I know that the scientists and doctors have done all they could to make me just like him. They have given me parts of his personality, so that he can live on, if you want to look at it in such a way."

"That's so interesting."

"Yes. I agree."

Remington exhaled. His eyes remained closed. "They remade his brain," he said thoughtfully. "It was eaten by cancer, so they remade it, and they made you. I think that's beautiful."

"It's very beautiful." Andy put his hand on Remington's head. "I feel we have become close. You and me."

"We have."

"I am sorry you are feeling upset. I hope I can make you feel better."

"You already are."

"I am glad." He begun stroking Remington's hair, unsure why other than that it felt like the natural thing to do, and Remington hummed quietly in content.

Eventually, Remington said, "I'm sorry for leaving you today. I know it was shitty of me. Sebastian just got under my skin."

"It is okay, Remi. You did not leave me alone, I know I am safe with Emerson. I understand you needed some time to calm down."

"You're too good for this world."

"I believe that is why they created me."

Remington hummed. "Well, lucky me."

Andy smiled.

"They don't call you The Perfects for nothing."

"I don't believe I am perfect. Nobody is ever perfect, there is no such thing."

"You're the closest to it."

"Thank you."

"I'm gonna fall asleep like this."

"I will not stop you."

Sitting up, Remington smiled at him. "I'll let you get dinner," he said. "You know where everything is?"

"Yes. Thank you."

"No, thank you. It's been a while since anyone hugged me like that. I needed it." He yawned, rubbed his eyes. "Bring your food in here if you like. I'll find something on the T.V."

Andy got up, left the living room for the kitchen. When he returned with his meal, Remington was flicking through channels on the television. "This is very nice, thank you," he said, putting the plate on the coffee table and sitting back down. "Tomorrow, I will cook."

"Only if you want to."

"I would love to, Remi."

"I look forward to it."
