Chapter 8
After getting to Andre's and a grueling five hours of practice Dez and the guys went to go to the burger spot and grab dinner before they had to get ready for the show. Prince and I stayed back to work on some new guitar riff he taught himself and wanted time to give my take on it.
"I took one of the cords from the Isley Brothers and kinda made it my own. Gave it more funk I guess." He said proudly.
"Who funkier than the Isleys?" I questioned as I leaned back on the bean bag chair crossing my arms.
Prince wasted no time in giving me the most over confident answer he could.
"What do you mean who's funkier!?!? You know it's me! I'm one of the baddest out!"
"Yeah in you're head." I said to him sucking my teeth and his cockiness.
"Better watch ya tone mama."
"You watch yours jerk!"
I climbed out of the bean bag and got a good handful of his thick oversized fro and gave him a nice tug.
"BITCH!" He yelled at me as he smacked my hand.
"YA MAMA!" I yelled back slapping him in his neck.
"We already established that. What else is new?" He said with an attitude.
"I know that you need to hurry the hell up and shove your tongue down the new girls throats before someone beats you to it!"
Prince began to blush and lowered his head so that I couldn't see his olive face turn a bright pink but he didn't get low enough and I already saw.
"Oh my god." He laughed.
"I'm serious! If you really like her you should tell her on Monday how you feel! You already can make her laugh! What's the worst that could happen?"
"You are really serious about this!" He exclaimed as he raised his head with his smile still plastered on his face.
"Hell yeah I am! Why wouldn't I be?"
"Because I don't.....I guess I don't want you to feel like....."
"Like what?"
"Like I'm leaving you."
Prince's smile faded a little bit and his hand were placed on his lap as he leaned against the wall with this shoulders supporting his weight against it. I was a little lost with what he said.
"What do you mean leaving me? Skipper I'm gonna be just fine." I told him trying to cover up the fact that I had just realized that since me and Wilson aren't seeing things eye to eye after his free period beat down I no longer had a date and the dance was just three weeks away.
"I know that you don't have a date and....I don't want you to feel bad." He said softly.
"Prince it's fine. Rachel can be my date!"
Prince raised both of his eyebrows in surprise.
"You want a girl to be your date? Wow Mouse! I didn't know you would even want to swing that way!"
"Not like that nasty! Getcha mind out the gutter! We're just gonna go as friends. She doesn't have a date either and she feels like most of the guys at this shit hole school of ours are worth her time."
"Morris seems to like her."
"Morris seems to like any girl who vagina hasn't been poked yet! Get real! Rachel doesn't even like him. She thinks his IQ level is the equivalent of a sun dried tomato."
Prince got a nice little giggle out of that and shook his head.
"She's definitely right about that!" He said as he laughed.
The room fell silent as Prince stood up and turned his head to the mirror to the left of him. He turned back to me and sighed with a smile.
"So? You ready to do me?" He asked.
My heart stopped beating faster than I could ask him to repeat the question.
"Excuse me?!?!?!" I asked nervously.
"I meant my eye liner girl." He clarified as he laughed from deep in his chest.
What a relief that was! If he was really talking about doing him I wouldn't even know where to start. My vagina was never poked and I'm not ready to start now! It took a few seconds for me to catch my breath and restart my heart as Prince went over to his dresser and grabbed a plastic bag that he got from the drug store.
"I got a few of the pencils that I saw you use. I didn't know if you wanted to get a color or not so I just bought black ones. Cool?" He asked as he came back over to the bed and sat down with the bag in hand.
"Black is fine! I think you'd look better with black anyway. Makes the green in your eyes pop more!"
"Well then make it pop mama."
"That sounds so perverted when you say it. Don't do it again." I giggled as I raise a single brow at him.
Prince took a moment and thought about what I said. He must have said it to himself and made a disgusted face.
"Yeah you're right. That does sound pretty bad." He giggled.
I took his bag from his hands and went inside pulling the brand new eye pencil out and ripping it out of It's packaging.
"Alright Skippy? Ready to be beautiful?" I joked as I wiggled the pencil between my fingers.
"I'm suddenly uncomfortable with this whole thing." He stated in a worried voice.
"I'm kidding! Relax. I know what I'm doing! Now head back and close your eyes."
"Now who sounds perverted?" He said in a joking and sharp tone.
"Shut up and hold still nerd."
It took me a good five minutes to make the liner perfect under his left eye because he wouldn't sit still and he kept making me laugh with all of his stupid jokes. The right eye didn't take as long and before long I was done.
"Alright! Go take a look!" I sighed as I pointed over to the mirror.
"I almost don't want to." He giggled.
"What? You look fine! Go look!"
Prince stood up and made his way to the mirror and took a look at himself. I couldn't tell if the slight gasp of air he let out was a good thing or a bad thing.
"Holy shit Mouse!" He said loudly.
"You hate it?" I asked him afraid of his reply.
"Are you kidding this shit is amazing! I can barely recognize myself! I have let you do this every show! Hell I'll even pay you!"
I began to blush a little but it was really nothing.
"You don't have to pay me! I don't mind!"
"Well I have to thank you some how."
"You don't really! It's cool!"
"Alright then well can I ask you for another favor?" He asked as he stood upright and faced me.
"Sure I guess! What's up?" I replied.
Prince sighed and stuck out his hand and I looked him up and down puzzled.
"You want me to do what with that hand of yours?" I giggled.
"I want you to teach me how to slow dance."
This kid can't be serious! I don't know the first thing about slow dancing with a boy! My dad died a year before I was able to learn at the father daughter dance so I never learned myself. I don't want to be embarrassed when he finds out that I can't dance. I guess I gave myself away and stated to stammer out my words.
"I ummmm....I can't......I...."
"What's wrong?" He asked me confused.
I better tell him and save myself the embarrassment now so he can asks Mrs. B later.
"I can't.....as in.....I don't know how." I sadly said to him as I turned away.
Prince smiled and grabbed me by my right arm.
"It's ok! We'll learn together. That way if either of us are bad at it we won't even know!"
"But....don't you want it to be perfect? For Denise?"
"I have time to get it right. But it wouldn't help to practice now."
Prince placed his hands gently on my hips and I wrapped my arms around his neck. It worked out for us since he was taller than me by at least two inches. Three and a half of you count his shoes.
"How are we gonna do this if theirs no music?" I asked.
"We don't need it mama." He said to me softly.
"What if the guys come back and think-"
"Let em. I don't care."
As we dance to the rhythm of our hearts we were both unknowingly smiling from ear to ear. This is really starting to turn into something more. I would like to admit that but theirs only one thing in the way. Denise.
