Scene 16

Cree walked into the main building of the Drell complex. She was hoping to use the underground tunnel to get back to her dorm room, but Reese wouldn't let up. He followed her the whole way. She was a few feet ahead and if only she could make it through the door she would have sealed it to prevent him from going through, but he caught her just as she reached the latch.

"Cree, we have to talk," he said loudly. He was almost shouting, which was something he rarely did.

"No, we don't," she shouted back at him. "It's over with, and we never have to think about it again."

"Yes, we do have to talk," Reese said as his eyes reached an intensity she had never seen before. They burned into her and almost scared her. "I want to know why you acted like that."

"Because she pissed me off, plain and simple," Cree said and tried for the door again, but he grabbed her wrist. "Reese, let go of me."

"No, not until you tell me why," he said. He was forceful but gentle. "Does it have something to do with what Brown did to you?"

"No!" she shouted at the top of her lungs as she pushed him away from her. She was shaking a little, and Reese knew Brown was a touchy subject for her. After about a half a minute she calmed down a little. "I just hate her, and that's all there is to it." She was turned away from Reese at that moment. He could feel her anger directed at him, but she was afraid of what she could do to him. He then realized she did take it easy on Lea. If she wanted to she could have killed her.

Reese didn't stop her as she ran through the door. He could hear her footsteps, but more than anything he could feel her pain.

She was so upset, and Reese felt guilty for letting it happen. He didn't want to hurt her, but she was keeping something from him. It was something that built this barrier between them. They would get so far, so close and then she always pulled away. He wondered now if it had something to do with Lea. There was no way of knowing until she was ready to tell him, and sometimes he wondered if she ever would.

Reese just stood there wanting to go after her, but not daring to. He had never treated her like that before, and he couldn't understand why he was doing it now. His emotions were so high now, and they had been ever since Drake had come. They were even worse the closer he was to him, and he wasn't that far away seeing the med bay was just a short walk away.

He was always able to hold back the emotions of others, but somehow when Drake's mixed with his own, he couldn't sort it out in his head anymore. Plus, the fact that Cree had gone off the deep end getting into a fight with Lea in public. When his mother found out that little piece of news, he knew that they were both going to be in trouble.
