MEDICAL REPORT

Monday the 5th of August, 2013

Here we will give a summary of some of the salient points contained in this experiment.

The patient was a Caucasian woman, aged twenty-three, with mutation in progression which had been initiated by a small opening through the anterior thoracic wall, which had given rise to repeated external hemorrhages, the last occurring two days before death.

She was first seen by Dr. Salko at 1 P.M., about five hours after the commencement of the first symptoms. She was restless and suffering from pain in the lower abdominal region. There was a slight flow of bright-red blood found in the uterus. The pulse was 120. Morphine was administered and the patient appeared to be much relieved and dozed off to sleep. The patient roused from sleep hours later. Noticing that her breathing was becoming short, her pulse was checked. It was gone. The woman's heart had stopped beating. She was dead. There was no death struggle. The patient was conscious and talking to within three minutes of death.

The autopsy began eight hours after the time of death, the body being still warm. There was no source of odors, greenish color, or any other evidence of post-mortem decomposition.

Upon microscopical examination of the organs there were observed degenerative changes in the cardiac muscle cells, especially in the walls of which the bacilli were often accumulated. The bacillus was indeed non-motile, straight and/or sometimes curved.

In later conditions, the fact that the injection of dead bacteria had strong toxic action seemed to indicate the existence of preformed poisonous ingredients in the cell bodies of the bacteria itself.
