| Chapter 17: Goddamn You. |
"Dean," Sam's voice came from the front window as Bobby and I were buried under a pile of books. We were too invested to hear him the first time, but when he called my name again, I rose from the ground. "Dean..."
"What?" I asked, stepping over the pile of books I was under, then around Sierra's. "We haven't found shit as far as soul retrieval goes...and we're still waiting on that stupid pregnancy test –" I stopped short when my eyes fell on a familiar set of headlights coming down the driveway. "Dani."
The challenger came to a stop, Castiel rose out of the driver's seat, which made my heart drop – considering Dani was picky about who drove her car. Only for my heart to flutter back to life as Castiel, helped someone out of the backseat.
Dani.
"Dani." I gasped, meeting Castlel and catching Dani as she fell into my arms. "Dani, baby – are you alright? What happened...why is there so much blood – Cas?"
Castiel opened his mouth to speak, but Dani rose her head to meet my gaze.
"Dean." She almost whispered with a small smile. Although it didn't last long, her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she fainted.
"Fuck." I gasped, as Castiel caught her and we limped her back inside, passed Sam, Sierra and Bobby – placing her back into the bed I had been in before. "Cas...answers, now."
"Not here." Castiel spoke softly as Bobby adjusted the blankets, sheets and pillows for Dani, but frowned at all the blood stains on the back of her shirt. Castiel and I moved out of the room, into the hall, where Sam and Sierra stood, and once Bobby joined us we moved downstairs for Castiel to fill us in.
"Long story short," He smirked, sighing into a cup of coffee. "Dani made a deal with Lucifer, long enough to banish Nick and deliver Azazel. She managed to do both..." His gaze flickered over me as we spoke. "... once she delivered Azazel, Lucifer literally ripped his wings back from her and God –"
"- Wait, she met God?" Gasped Sierra, interjecting.
"Not only did she meet him," Castiel continued, acknowledging her question. "But he was part of this whole angelic and demonic blood situation. Although, it wasn't planned for her to get demonic blood or remain alive."
"They wanted her dead?" I asked, feeling my jaw hanging.
"Unfortunately." Castiel nodded, silently. "She wouldn't stand for that though, her own Father was part of the deal -so she made a deal with both sides when that came up... she banishes Nick, delivers Azazel with her angelic blood...and all she asks in return is for her soul."
My eyes widened.
Sierra gasped.
Sam pressed a fist against his lips in shock.
Bobby's eyes glistened over.
"So, the deal was made – she did what she had to – and now she's completely exhausted and human." His eyes traced the room before he spoke again. "She should have her memory back, but they didn't bother to heal anything, physically..."
"...what the hell do you mean, should?" I almost roared, feeling my heart lunge in concern, stepping towards Castiel.
"Despite the Human image of God, Dean...He's not so reliable." Castiel sighed, hanging his head. "We'll find out if or when she wakes up..."
"...so she could still die?" asked Sierra, rising from her the chair she had dropped into.
"Yes." Castiel frowned into the, now, empty cup. "But as we've all seen, and witnessed... she's a fighter."
Sierra was speechless.
I beamed at the floor, absolutely blown away at what Dani had done.
"Saving you, Dean," Castiel spoke, getting my attention from the floor. "Was not part of the deal, and they tried to say that her saving another human soul would forfeit her own...I told you angels can be greedier than demons." He answered my questionable face. "But she fought back against that too."
"She almost lost her soul, for good, over saving me?" I asked, looking back towards the stairs as Castiel nodded.
His eyes shot over at Sierra as he spoke bluntly, "You're not pregnant."
I sighed in relief before moving quietly out of the room and sprinting up the stairs and slowly made my way back into the bedroom where Dani was resting.
I slowly slid through the door and quietly dropped into the chair next to the bed and buried my face into my hands.
*
My eyes fluttered open to see Dean being the only person in the room sitting in the chair to the right of my perspective. He had his face buried in his hands and seemed to be... crying.
"I may look it, but I'm not dead." I managed to groan, sitting up and adjusting the pillows as his head shot up. "Apparently death can't even take me out..."
"Dani..." He almost whispered, lunging out of the chair and landing on one knee next to the bed and taking my right hand. His eyes went wide, however, when I didn't snatch my hand away.
I smiled through the body aches, as he leaned forward and took my face in his hands. He rubbed his thumbs under my eyes. The way he looked at my eyes, my face and kept glancing between my eyes, down to my lips and then back up to my eyes only to examin my hair over and over again, he reminded me of someone who found something they had lost for so long and was ensuring it was in fact what they thought it was.
"Dean," I smiled, taking his right hand into mine.
His eyes softened with so much hesitation as my eyes filled with emotional tears at his eyes glistening into mine. It had been so long since we looked at each other such genuine emotion like this, it almost hurt with how much love radiated between us.
"Dean, baby..." I spoke slowly as I frowned, taking his other hand off my face and pulled on his collar so his face was closer to mine. Also making him take a seat on the side of the bed.
His smile crept on slowly as some tears streamed down his cheek and dripped onto the blanket on my lap before he leaned in, caressing my cheek without breaking eye contact.
"Listen, Dani...about Sierra –" He started, but I shook my head hard and pressed my finger against his lips, silencing his potential explanation.
I then smiled softly and pressed my forehead against his.
"I forgive you." I whispered, closing my eyes with a sigh as I took in his body heat. "I forgive you for Sierra, Jessica...whoever..."
"Dani –" Dean seemed speechless as I tangled in my fingers in with his. "- why?"
"Why what?" I asked, trying not to blink.
I was so terrified to lose a single second of this green-eyed paradise.
"I don't deserve this." He shook his head, wrinkling his eyebrows, seeming as if he was scared to blink as well. "I've done so much to you that were uncalled for, selfish and -"
"- the fact you're acknowledging what you did, what those actions were and what they did to me..." I sighed, taking his chin to keep his eyes on me. "...and how they made me feel with or without my memory...says so much."
"But I -" Dean attempted to speak again, but I interjected.
"- A little birdy told me, recently, that forgiveness is still very much a gift that some don't deserve, but it can fix things." I glanced down at our fingers being in tangled. "I love you too fucking much," I sighed, taking his hands in a tighter grip,"To let this go."
"Goddamn you Danielle Rhett..." Dean cursed through tears as he let go of my hands, taking my face and pulling it into his, allowing our lips to clash as hard, as hot and as passionate as I've ever felt with him, so far.
