Chapter 2

A/N: Thank you for all your kind words and excitement for the first chapter. I'm so happy to read your reactions. Here's another chapter of chaos. Sit tight.

Chaos was the only word to explain what was happening around them. One moment, Namjoon was walking to the doctor's office and the next he was summoned by his brother's urgent call for help. His distressed peppermint scent was all over the place.

Park Jaehyun, a man who never bowed down to anyone in his life, a man who was so fearless looked so pale as he lay unconscious on Taehyung's lap. The doctors had jumped into action immediately. He had to reign in his emotions as his phone blared non-stop. He assured his parents that Seokjin and Jimin were fine and stopped them from visiting the hospital.

The hospital security was already in question and with the team responsible to guard Seokjin and Jimin was still out of commission they were outnumbered. Namjoon never felt so helpless in his life before. The media and public were gathered in front of the hospital and there was no way one could get in or get out without being mobbed.

His palms were clammy as he called his security agency, who said they are doing their best to send them back up. The sad truth was that their backup was compromised earlier that day as well and their PR team was working hard with the police to hide the amount of damage this single incident had caused. This was bigger than anything he had ever known or experienced.

Why would Heesung attack Jimin?

It didn't make sense. He paced the floor in the small waiting room, gaze scanning around and jumping with every ding of the elevator. His phone rang for the umpteenth time that evening and he had half the heart to turn it off.

He frowned when he noticed the call was from a private number and it only deepened when he swiped his thumb across the screen before pressing it to his ears.

"Kim Namjoon! I thought you wouldn't answer." The voice on the other end had his blood run cold. He had heard this voice a few times to know exactly who he was. "This is Choi Heesung. Hope you already knew that so I'll skip the pleasantries."

"You fucking bastard! What has Jimin ever done to you?" he growled, his grip tightening around his phone.

The opposite end was silent for a moment. "I'd have been furious if it wasn't for the situation we are in, Namjoon-ssi. You see, it was never my intention to hurt my future mate. It's an accident. An unfortunate one."

"What? He's fighting for his life and that's all you have to say?" he yelled into the phone, causing a few heads to turn in his direction.

"Would you rather prefer me telling you that the assignment was to kill your elder brother Kim Seokjin and the others were supposed to be collateral damage?"

Namjoon felt his knees weaken. "What?"

Choi Heesung laughed. His sound felt like a nail on a chalkboard. "Ah, what can I say? After the last time, I wanted to make somewhat of an impact," he drawled. "I hate failures. But can you believe me when I say I'm happy that this mission failed?"

Namjoon clenched his jaw so hard that he was sure if he clenched any harder, he would crack his teeth.

"I wasn't expecting my precious little omega to be inside the car with him. I'm glad he survived," Heesung continued as if not sensing the storm brewing in his mind. "Anyways, take better care of him for me. My wolf is giving me a hard time that I unintentionally harmed our omega." He sighed. "I don't usually regret or feel remorse but for the first time I feel all that and it's so foreign you know."

"Do I look like I give a fuck?" he growled. "Fuck off, Heesung!"

"I'll leave you and my omega for the time being. I'm gonna reflect on my rash behavior," Heesung said as if he didn't hear the thunderous growl he let out in warning. "Take care of my omega for me, Namjoon-ssi. I'll come back to him after three months. For now, I'll let him recuperate."

"He's not your fucking omega!" But it didn't seem like Heesung heard it. The line ended and Namjoon stared at the wall in disbelief. He couldn't make sense of the bastard's words. With a frown, he hurried toward the doctor when he spotted him coming out of the intensive care unit.

"He's fine," the doctor said as soon as he reached him. "Mr. Park is stable and you have nothing to worry about. As for Jimin-ssi, his internal bleeding stopped. We will have to keep him under observation for the next twenty-four hours." He glanced at his watch. "You can visit Mr. Park after an hour."

Namjoon thanked the doctor as his shoulders slumped with relief. There was a lot to process and he didn't know-how. He only relaxed when the new team of guards filed into the hospital premises, guarding every exit.

Someone put a hand on his shoulder and squeezed. He turned around to see Taehyung giving him a tight smile. "I'll take care of the things at the hospital. Why don't you go home and rest a bit?" he asked. "There's nothing for you to do here."

Namjoon exhaled and nodded after thinking it through. "I'll come in the morning so you can go home and relax," he offered. "I also need to talk to mom and dad."

Taehyung nodded. "You do that. Mom would want to be here when hyung wakes up." He exhaled. "She called me thrice already. I just...I just don't know what to tell her." His voice cracked.

Namjoon pulled his brother into a tight embrace, sensing mild distress he was emanating. He had it under control, but Taehyung was the softest out of the three siblings and wore his heart in his sleeves. Jimin and Taehyung were like twins, attached to their hips since they were young.

Born only months apart they have never been away from each other. Then Taehyung chose to work with them after his graduation while Jimin decided to pursue his postgraduate degree. Taehyung was the most affected when Jimin went to London for his higher studies.

"He will be okay," he whispered. "Jimin is stronger than any of us. He will bounce back in no time."

"I know." Taehyung patted his back. "Doesn't mean I'm not worried. That idiot should have told me sooner. I'm gonna whoop his ass once he wakes up," he sniffled. "You take care."

"I will."

Before leaving, he arranged a room for Taehyung to stay in and ordered food for him. Exiting the hospital while several mics were shoved into your face was a task in itself but Namjoon managed with the help of the security.

With the most important thing taken care of, now he was left to deal with the aftermath. He had to meet with the police and then the PR team to analyze the damage and severity of the situation.

They would have to work out compensation for the guards who lost their lives today. Perhaps some trust fund for their children who were under eighteen or elderly parents who were under their care. There was just too much to handle.

Lost in thoughts, he failed to notice the white Toyota Camry tailing his car, taking a diversion just before his car turned around to a private community where he lived.

***

True to his words, there were no more attempts on Jimin's life. Heesung even left their factories and businesses alone. Namjoon found it hard to believe but he knew the time was ticking. Three months had passed and the time Heesung mentioned was ending. It was the most peaceful three months.

His uncle still refused to approach the Jeons for help. He was hell-bent on tightening the security around their family and the businesses.

Jimin and Seokjin had made a quick recovery. Jimin even began to work under Seokjin and visited their office daily. Every day Namjoon, along with his uncle Jaehyun, feared the worst. Jimin was stubborn and nothing they say or do would keep him locked inside their home. Jaehyun tried to ship him back to London but Jimin refused claiming it wouldn't make a difference if Heesung wanted him.

As he watched Jimin and Taehyung sparring on the gym mat, his thoughts were on what Heesung would do next.

***

"What do you mean there was another attempt?" Jimin asked, his eyes narrowing at the head of security.

"Our team was compromised." Han, the man in his late forties exhaled. Hands clasped behind his back and stance wide, his expression was as serious as it could get with that impassive mask he wore in his face like a second skin. "We found the unconscious guards in one of the storage rooms of the hotel just two floors below the ballroom His Highness was attending the charity gala," he continued. "The men who assaulted them stripped them and stole their ID cards. And we found six dead bodies, stowed in the toilet on the same floor as the ballroom." His features hardened. "They were all dressed in the black suits stolen from our guards and we found the stolen IDs around their neck."

Jimin gasped, eyes going wide and Namjoon stepped closer, putting an arm around his shoulder. The alpha's patchouli scent grew spicier, hinting at his spiking fury.

"B-But the guards were there," Jimin whispered. "T-They were with me. They protected me from the crowd and got me out of there safely."

"We checked the security footage and they didn't work for us." The man's face was hard as a tone. "I'm too ashamed we let this happen not once but twice."

"Twice?" Namjoon asked.

"Yes, sir. My boss mentioned that there were bodyguards at the hospital when our team arrived. They left once our team took charge. We thought they were hired by you," Han explained. "I recognized one of them while checking the security footage so I went back to check and realized there could be more to this."

Namjoon frowned. "What the fuck?" he whispered. "This is..."

"Did His Highness hire a team without your knowledge?" he asked. "We are aware that you were interviewing men to hire as your personal bodyguards."

Namjoon shook his head. "It's true that we are interviewing men with a military background and good reputation to hire them as full-time bodyguards under our company. But we haven't selected anyone so far."

The security footage in question kept playing in the background. "It doesn't make sense," Taehyung commented. "I was with Jiminie the entire time. We didn't doubt a single thing." He frowned. "They were professional. Didn't let anyone reach within ten feet of us and brought us to our car."

Jimin slouched in his chair. "This is alarming. Not just the fact that there were six dead people on the same floor," he gasped, leaning on the table with his head between his hands.

So many things could have gone wrong. There were so many questions in his mind. A shudder ran through his body. The venue was thoroughly vetted. Even the attendee's background was checked twice. He couldn't believe such a thing happened right under their noses.

"Did you find anything about the dead men?" Taehyung asked.

"Yes, Mr. Kim. They all belong to Choi's gang. They all had similar tattoos on their inner wrist. The police were able to identify them and pull their profiles. They were associated with several crimes ranging from assault to murder over the years," Han informed.

"Who are they?" Jimin whispered. "They could have harmed me if they wanted. But they didn't. They secured the hospital perimeter. I remember how they were protecting me in the venue." He exhaled. "I don't know what to think. Were you able to identify these men?"

Han shook his head. "None. It's jarring. It'd help if His Highness can reduce his outings," he said.

Jimin sighed. "I can't. The ones I'm attending are high-profile events. It will affect our company reputation if I don't show up. Besides, I can't let these incidents stop me from living my life."

"Jimin..." Namjoon called exasperatedly.

"No, hyung. I won't be confined to my home." He stood. "What makes you think I'm safe at home? What guarantee can you give me that they won't attempt to take me from home? You all witnessed what happened three months ago. They shot at us in public. The police or NIS hadn't found the culprits yet."

"Jimin-ah." Taehyung put a hand on his shoulder.

"I can't live my life in fear." He looked down at his lap. "If possible, find Choi and end him before he causes more damage."

Han looked troubled but Jimin didn't know what he could do to help. He balled his fists and took a few deep breaths to calm his nerves. While he was taught to be careful in situations like this, he was also taught to be brave. Jimin knew Choi Heesung wouldn't stop at any cost. No matter where he was, he would always come for him.

"I'm going home, hyung," he told Namjoon. "Please clear my schedule for the rest of the day."

"I'll come with you." Taehyung jumped to his feet.

Whatever Jimin expected to find when he came back to Seoul, it wasn't this. He didn't even have enough time before he was attacked. Later, he learned the attack was aimed at Seokjin. His body shuddered just by thinking what would have happened if he wasn't there with him.

It was only a miracle they survived and he was glad for the three months of peace they had. Now with this incident, it was clear Choi was back and was already making his move.

His fingers twitched, grasping his phone in his tight hold.

Not now.

He would have to hold it a while longer. He also felt bad for stopping his friends Hoseok and Yoongi from coming over. Jimin realized it wasn't safe for them to be spotted with him now. So he had lied to them saying he was busy and didn't have time to meet them.

He was lost in his thoughts and the trip to their mansion was quiet. However, Jimin sensed the shift in the air even before he stepped out of the car. Taehyung stepped in front of him, one arm outstretched. He had his head tilted to the side and his eyes shifted to that of his wolf. His nostrils flared.

Did he sense something? An alpha's senses were several folds heightened compared to that of an omega. It was one of the reasons they occupied the majority of the security positions.

"Jiminie, get back in the car."

Jimin didn't ask why. He slipped back inside the car immediately. "You too. Get back in here." He tugged at his jacket and Taehyung didn't waste time." He jumped inside. "Drive!" he growled at the driver, who pulled the car out of the driveway with a squeal of the tires.

Jimin secured the seatbelt, head craned to look behind them with wide eyes. He was sure Taehyung saw or heard something. The way his nostrils flared was all the warning he needed. "What is it?" he asked in a shaky voice.

But Taehyung ignored him to grab the walkie-talkie. Before he could say something, however, a car blocked their path. Several armed men jumped out from the vehicle surrounding them in a blink of an eye.

"Oh, my God!" Jimin clutched his chest and closed his eyes, fighting the panic caused by the flashes of his previous accident behind his closed eyelids. "No, no, no."

"Fuck!" Taehyung cursed. "This is the alpha one. We are under attack. I repeat we are surrounded by armed men. Our SUV is bulletproof but we don't know how long we could hold it."

They never got the response back. A loud boom had Jimin whip around and he saw the other two security teams behind them were stuck. Smoke billowed from their wheels.

The driver was backing up the car already. He whirled around just in time to see the men shoot at the windshield. The bullets cracked the mirror but it held on. However, they had great aim because they were hitting the same spot and Jimin knew it wouldn't take long before it broke. He ducked behind the seat as best as he could.

"Shit, shit, shit." Taehyung hit the back of the driver's seat. "Fuck! Why aren't our security team responding?" He hit the walkie-talkie in the palm of his hand. "This is alpha one. Somebody fucking answer!"

The bodyguard with them was already on high alert, but it wasn't like he could do anything when bullets rained over them. He was trying to call someone only to realize they didn't have a signal anymore.

"We don't have a signal," the bodyguard growled. "They're using some kind of a jammer. We are on our own."

Jimin noticed not even a single bullet hit his side or the direction he sat. Their car hit something in the back and Jimin saw they were now stuck with no way to escape. The men approached the car, hitting their gloved hands on the window and demanding them to open the door. Jimin cursed when they began to shoot at the lock.

"TaeTae, what the fuck is happening?" he asked in a panic. "This place is supposed to be the most secure place. How did they even get past the gate?"

Two helicopters flew over their heads as if answering his question. Jimin recoiled when the bullet hit the side of his lock again. There was absolutely no way to escape now. However, before any of them could even reply, the men surrounding them began to fall down one by one.

Jimin watched with wide eyes as two black vans came to a screeching halt. He didn't even see where it came from. Four men jumped out of the first van and began to clear their path. His jaw dropped as they waved at the driver to get the heck out of here.

"Taehyungie...who are they?" he asked, feeling his heartbeat out of his chest when their car finally began to move.

The men jumped back into the vehicle and it was then Jimin noticed the van that was already in front of them.

"What the fuck is happening?" Taehyung looked around.

"We don't know, sir." The bodyguards looked bewildered. "They aren't from our team."

"I fucking get that!" Taehyung growled.

This bunch dressed in black gear one wore for combat with a bulletproof vest and helmet. It didn't make sense. They didn't look like NIS either. In minutes, they were out of the mansion driveway and entered the road that led them outside the property.

It was when they reached the gates, Jimin noticed the guards slumped over the tables. Another van was parked here with more men in similar gear guarding the place. The men waved their hands to signal them to keep going.

Their phone pinged and Jimin hurried to pull it out, noticing they finally had a signal.

Private Number: You're safe. Follow the van. They will drop you off in a secure place.

"T-Tae..." Jimin's voice wavered as he flashed his phone screen toward his cousin. "S-See this."

Taehyung flashed his own phone screen toward Jimin.

Private Number: You're safe. Follow the van. They will drop you off in a secure place.

It was the same message. Even the bodyguard and the driver received one. Jimin didn't know what to make when he heard the helicopter blades whirring.

"Shit! Now how are we gonna tackle that?" Taehyung hissed. He was already calling someone.

But they had nothing to worry about because the helicopter was blown into pieces right in front of their eyes. A second helicopter appeared in their vicinity and Jimin saw something hit its tail. It lost its momentum, swaying in the sky before crashing into the trees.

The driver swerved the car to avoid being hit but they made it out and into the road. Then they were racing through the main road through the traffic. Jimin's heart galloped in his chest. If it wasn't for his scent blockers, he would be drenching the entire car with his distressing scent.

"Are we trusting these people?" the bodyguard looked visibly shaken. So was the driver. Jimin noticed how his hands were shaking but he held the wheels steady and his face was determined.

"Do we have a choice?" Taehyung looked pretty shaken too.

As for Jimin, he was livid. It was a miracle he was holding together. His phone pinged again.

Private Number: I got you, ylang-ylang. No one will harm you.

Jimin gasped. It can't be. He blinked and pushed his phone silently toward Taehyung. His cousin's eyes went wide.

"Is this?" he mouthed, not wanting anyone else to hear them.

"I don't know," Jimin mouthed back.

It couldn't be him. He was in the United States. They hadn't even spoken in a while. How did he even know?

His hands shook as he looked outside the window. The proof was right in front of his eyes. Jimin didn't know if it was relief or the fear that flooded his system. Relief to hear back from him and fear of what would happen now that he was involved.

Shit.

Taehyung pulled his phone out, typing furiously.

From Taehyung:

You said he didn't know.

To Taehyung:

I wasn't lying.

From Taehyung:

He got those choppers shot down, Jiminie!

He got those fucking rocket launchers!

Did you even see what happened back there?

He fucking shot them down with a rocket launcher.

To Taehyung:

I don't know.

His hands trembled.

To Taehyung:

Trust me.

I don't know how he knew.

From Taehyung:

The attack was all over the internet and media.

He may have seen it.

To Taehyung:

But he didn't ask me anything, TaeTae.

He didn't even show that he was aware of it.

From Taehyung:

Are you sure it's him?

This could be someone else.

What if it's Heesung?

For all, we know that bastard could be playing some mind game to fuck with your mind and come out as a savior of some sort.

To Taehyung:

No.

It's him.

Only he calls me ylang-ylang.

From Taehyung:

This just got messy.

How r we gonna explain this to Uncle or Namjoon hyung?

To Taehyung:

We don't.

We can't.

From Taehyung:

Jiminie...

We can't hide this forever.

To Taehyung:

I'm afraid of what will happen if dad ever finds out.

I'm not ready for this TaeTae.

From Taehyung:

I'll be quiet.

But trust me, Jiminie.

Heesung won't be quiet.

He will be pissed when he finds this.

He isn't holding back and I have a feeling this is about to get nasty.

To Taehyung:

I just...

I just need some time, TaeTae.

Please...

From Taehyung:

I promised you, didn't I?

Your secret is safe with me, Jiminie.

I won't tell anyone.

Jimin's hands trembled as he put his phone aside. For the first time in weeks, he felt safe. When they entered the driveway of one of the luxurious hotels and then into their underground parking, he didn't question anything.

They were guided out and into the elevator. Two of the armed guards entered the elevator with them. None of them talked.

"This way, Your Highness," one man said when the elevator stopped on one of the floors.

Soon they were in one of the presidential suits, the windows closed and it had a bedroom without any windows. He could tell why this place was chosen. The door locked behind them and Jimin slumped on the bed. His heart continued to race.

He was able to avoid the attack one more time again. He wondered why someone would go to this extent to get to him. This level of obsession didn't make sense but the man was dangerous.

***

When the news reached Park Jaehyun, he was delirious. Namjoon and Seokjin were with him and were able to calm him down.

The CCTV surrounding the properties was shot down. The guards and servants inside the mansion at the time of the attack were killed or injured. They were yet to assess the full extent of damage this caused.

Jaehyun was beyond furious. Why would the bastard keep hurting someone to get Jimin? Why would he kill the innocent ones? And what was with this security team that kept appearing out of nowhere? No one had an answer.

The first thing he did after receiving the news was to hurry to his son and envelope him into a bone-crushing hug. He relaxed only after seeing him safe and in one piece. He could tell Jimin was stressed because he was nesting with whatever blankets and pillows he had.

An essential oil diffuser was at the head side of the table, emanating soft notes of sandalwood and cardamom. It was an odd combination. But his son had been using them for so long and found comfort in it, especially when he was always on scent blockers and didn't have his own scent to comfort himself.

The only times he didn't use scent blockers was when he was in preheat or heat. Those days Jimin didn't leave the comfort of his room. It was difficult for the omega, but it was the only way they could protect him. The fewer people knew how he smelled the better.

However, they couldn't hide him from the world though. Ever since Jimin's high school photos were leaked to the public, he was being pursued by almost every popular alpha.

Jaehyun sighed and gave his scented jacket to Jimin to add it into his nest along with Taehyung's jacket he saw nestled under one of the pillows.

Later when he was with Namjoon, Seokjin and Taehyung in another room, hands absentmindedly fiddling with the phone, he had made up his mind.

"Namjoon," he called. "Please arrange a meeting with the Jeons," he said, exhaling through his mouth. "I'm willing to pay whatever price they demand as long as they protect my son and of course, I wouldn't accept anything that will compromise my son's personal life choices."

Namjoon nodded curtly.

"What do you mean?" Taehyung asked, his brows creased. "Why are we contacting the Jeons?"

"Namjoon came up with the idea a while ago," Seokjin answered. "He believes they were the only ones who could help us in a situation like this. But Uncle refused to meet them before."

"But I thought..." Taehyung trailed of before clearing his throat. "As long as Jiminie is safe and they don't demand anything atrocious that's fine I guess."

Jaehyun nodded. "It's shocking that our security company couldn't find where we get this message from. How did they even get Jimin or Taehyung's phone number?" He eyed his nephews. They looked exhausted. Taehyung more so. "Why are they protecting my son? Who are they? What are their intentions?"

"We don't know yet and we cannot trust them completely though we are unintentionally dependent on them," he admitted. "This place is one of the safest locations. It didn't make any difference to Heesung before." He frowned. "He is growing bolder and we don't have much time to waste. Whatever we do, we need to do it before he strikes again."

Jaehyun nodded. "I hope they can help before it's too late."
