Slamming Doors and Hoodies
I pulled at the seam of my sleeve, watching anxiously from the roof. Below me was the fight between my brother and my newly found boyfriend.
Heh.
I smiled as the word popped into my head. It tasted sweet when I rolled it across my lips and around in my mouth.
Boyfriend.
We hadn't told anyone yet, keeping the blissful happiness to ourselves for a little while longer.
The boys sparred beneath me, each taking an unwilling jab at the other. It was clear that they weren't intending to hurt the other.
It was revealed earlier this morning that they would be fighting. Which meant that one would be disqualified and his powers would be taken away.
My toes curled in anticipation as Chen began to yell at them both. I dared to peek over a tad bit more to try and hear to no avail.
Cole looked up to me, knowing I was there and from what I could see, smiled. My heart fluttered at the gesture and he fell, the floor falling out from under him.
A gasp sucked in breath to my lungs, and I slapped a hand over my mouth. Cole was out.
I paced about his room, anxious and fretting. A simple knock on the door nearly scared me to death, and with a soft "come in" my brother and his friends entered.
"He's gone. Oh shoot. Oh gosh." I hissed and shook my head, gnawing on my nails.
Jay was quick to soothe me, holding me to his chest and playing with my hair. "It's okay, it's gonna be okay."
Kai stood beside Lloyd as the blond handed him a ten. Kai took it from him, a smirk written on his face.
I caught the action, and pulled away from my brother to give them both a glare.
"I saw that. Explain."
Both boys eyes went wide and Lloyd elbowed the master of fire.
In return, Kai cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck anxiously. "Well... heh. About that. We may have placed money on you and him.. dating."
My face grew hot and I could hear my heart beat rapidly in my chest. "Excuse me?" I demanded, eyes narrowed.
From beside me, my brother chuckled. "It's obvious, Y/N. Plus blondie saw the whole ordeal." He winked, and my anger boiled over.
"Oh wow. Wonderful. Love the amount of privacy I get in this screwed up family. Glad I lock the door to my room." I hissed and stomped off to the balcony, slamming the door behind me.
Couldn't have anything nice, ever.
I seethed, and after a while, the boys let me be. Once I saw the room was empty, I walked around and made my decision.
I took a hoodie of Cole's and laid on his bed just so. A few fidgets and stretches, and the bed flipped.
I fell, but caught myself, bruising my wrists. A quick stand and I brushed off the hoodie.
It was so large on me, it almost reached my knees. A smile played at my lips as I switched on the light to my phone and began my trek down the dark hallway.
It was much more unsettling alone, and I slunk down further into the sweatshirt. Drips and groans from the floorboards sounded above me as someone walked around in the palace. I scurried along, not wanting to be here much longer.
I was soon met with the drop where Cole had to carry me down.
Shoot.
I really didn't think this through. Hmm.
I put my phone in my mouth, holding it between my teeth so I could still see with the light. And thus, I made my decent.
A few times, I lost my footing.
A few times, I lost my grip.
A few times, I had to stop to wipe the blood from my palms.
Finally, I jumped to meet the ground and flinched.
I caught my breath, and held my head in my hands.
The jarring fall reminded me of something I had wanted to forget.
I stood and held my arm to my chest, scar burning in remembrance.
I resumed my walk, making my way down the hall and following sounds I heard.
The light at the end led to a long corridor which met a heavy door. With a heave, I pushed the door open which protested with a squeak.
There lay prison cells, each barred up and holding the masters. I stifled back a gasp and crept foreword.
A quick glance into each proved nothing but faces I didn't know. Until, a familiar voice hit my ears.
"Y/N?"
I looked up and met those soft brown eyes. Warmth flooded over me, and I ran to him. Between the bars, he held my hand and I smiled. "Hi.."
"What on earth are you doing here? You should be up with Jay."
I shook my head in protest and swallowed back emotions.
"No, I had to make sure you were okay." I whispered and pulled the key off the wall to his cell. A soft click and I pulled open the door.
"You shouldn't be here." Cole hissed but held me tight in a hug. He was so much bigger than I was, so he enveloped me in embrace.
I decided against replying as he pulled me into his cell.
"Is that my sweatshirt?" He asked, looking me over.
Oops.
I shrugged, the long sleeves flopping at my gesture. "Guilty as charged."
A smile crossed his lips and he rolled his eyes. "And this too. What would you do without me?" He held up my cut hand, blood oozing from my palm.
Oops again.
A sigh, and he wrapped my palms with material from his shirt.
"They know." I muttered with a huff.
He looked up to me from wrapping and narrowed his eyes. "Really? Did you tell them? I thought we were going to tell them together..."
"No no, I wouldn't! Not without you. They figured it out." I grumbled and clenched my hands into fists.
"Did Jay snoop?" A nod from me and a sigh from him. "Whatever. As long as I have you."
My heart skipped a beat as he picked up my hand and held it close to play with my fingers.
