#13 Taste for Adventure
It had been a week since my outburst at the meeting. I felt shame filling my head. But they didn't see how it was the solution to our problems! I was on the rooftops gazing at the Alleys where I heard a squeal.
"Nutmeg! Over here!" I turned to the right to only see Coca my house cat friend. Purring, I run over, balancing on the rail and came over to the balcony. Coca let me in and I settled myself on the carpet. "I was wondering the next time I'll see you!" She nuzzled my shoulder. I let a soft purr. "It is always nice to know I have a perfect getaway for my troubles." Coca looked at me with interest. "Did you find Frost yet?" I shook my head in dismay. "Frost is toying with us, I can even hear him mocking with laughter. It turns out more cats are joining his gang or army." Her amber eyes widened. "How do you know who to trust anymore?"
"Oh it's simple really, anyone who joins gets three scars on their right cheek. The same one as Frost."
Coca nodding with understanding. "How did the meeting go?" I snorted.
"It went horribly. Everyone can't see that living in the alleys in winter isn't the best. Less and less food is available, which means we won't have enough strength to fight off an attack from Frost. " I explained.
We sat in silence, the idea of fighting Frost with an army of cats frightened me.
But, is it still considered running away?
" Diana?"
"Hmm?"
"Do you think I'm cowardly?" I asked.
Diana followed. "Where did you ever got that idea? Nutmeg you are the bravest I know."
"It just that everyone thinks I want to run away when I am just trying to help."
"Well, they just don't see you eye to eye that's all. Say what is your idea?"
I explained to her how us Alley Cats must find a new home other than the alleys to have a more comfortable life.
Diana's ears twitched.
" That sounds awful a lot like the farmlands."
"The farmlands?" I echo her, intrigued.
"The farmlands are a long stretch of land where you won't see a skyscraper for miles! There is a lot of grass, bigger animals like cows and horses and pigs. A human called a farmer takes care of the land and its animals. My mother was from there but she never did like it."
"It sounds like it has a lot of space. What about food?"
Diana laughed.
"It is overflowing with food. Mice, squirrels you name it."
"How far is it from here?" I asked.
Diana blinked. "You want to go there?"
I thought for a moment.
If it has a lot of space and more importantly food, we could move and live there.
"Yes. I want to see it for myself." I decided.
Diana gave me a sad smile.
" It won't be easy. You'll have to leave the city and go through the suburbs.
A bunch of houses in order to go to the rural outskirts which are the farmlands. It will take months even to go and come back...that is if you are even coming back."
I blinked in surprise. "Diana you think I won't come back? You think I am trying to run off?" I felt anger rising and boiling beneath my ginger pelt. Diana shook her head. "Of course you are! I am just talking about wolves and wild animals that might harm you." Relief flushed all the anger from my system into a sigh.
"Of course I'll be careful. Thanks, Diana, you're probably the only one who really trusts me."
Diana cracked a smile on her face.
"Of course. What are friends are for?"
I returned home only to be knocked down on my face.
I twisted around to see my baby brother Scout on my back sitting proudly.
"Hey, what are you doing?" I asked, scrambling to my feet without throwing the dark brown kitten off.
"Can you play with me?"
I groaned. Allowing him to climb off.
"Scout you do know I can't play with you every second of the day. "
"Please?"
"No."
"Pretty please?"
"Scout I said no. And when I say no I mean it."
"Why?"
I let out an expressed, frustrated sigh. "Because I am busy trying to save our cats from hunger and try to find out what Frost is up to so that when he attacks I don't end up losing another brother!" I snapped.
Scout flinched and stared at his paws.
"Do you understand now Scout?"
He shook his head.
"Good." I walked past him so I could go to another meeting. When I felt a tug on my tail, I flicked it with annoyance but stopped.
"What now Scout?"
"What did Frost Patches?" Sighing I turned to him.
" He brained washed him and tricked him. " I said. Not mentioning what really did happen.
He's too young to know the truth of his big brother's actions and his part in his father's death.
" Then chased him out right?"
I nodded.
"Yes, but listen to Scout I don't want you to get any ideas in confronting Frost. I understand you might be frustrated with him and might want to punish him for what he did to Patches and dad, but I am not ready to lose any more family members. Understood?"
Scout eagerly nodded." Okay, then he scampered off to hang out with Raven and Stripes.
I sighed in relief.
It would be my nightmare if he decided to go off.

Scout's POV:
Hi! My name is Scout and I think my sister is wrong.
Patches may be her littermate but he is my brother just like how Walnut is my father, who I never got to see because of Frost.
It makes me upset that everyone apologizes for my loss of a father and brother but I can't understand that loss without knowing who they are.
So yeah I am totally gonna find this Frost and bring him down to my level. Just don't tell her or she will be so upset! And my mother too, you know what let 's not tell anyone, it will be our little secret.
Okay?
Good.
But first I need to find my friends.
Since my sisters' Rings and Ginger are out having fun I bet, I'm gonna find my older friends Raven and Stripes.
Raven is 10 months old almost a year, Stripes is almost 8. Even though they are older than 5 months old me, I am the one in charge.
We goof around in the shelter and when my mother allows it, we prank around the park next door.
I find Raven guaning on a squirrel bone still a Stripes is busy giving his paws a thorough washing.
"Hey, guys." I greet.
"Hey, squirt!" Raven teased.
"Scout, what's up." Stripes looked up from his washing.
"Oh, nothing new just have the best idea for a group adventure," I say.
" Really? Not one of your ideas where we always get in trouble?" Raven meowed.
I frowned.
"No, it's even better."
They looked at me skeptically but sat up to listen anyway.
" You know how I never met my father or brother?"
They nodded.
"Well, I decided to confront Frost. " I tell them. Raven and Stripes stare at me in disbelief. Then looked at each other. In seconds they were laughing their heads off.
My fur bristled.
"What's so funny? He killed my father, chased my brother and creeps my sister out! I'm just making him pay!"
They stopped laughing yet I could see that look on their faces. Raven decided to explain.
"Of course we know what he did to your family and we don't mean to offend you it is that Frost is an adult revengeful killer. You try killing him it will be your funeral. "
My ears twitched.
"Who says I was gonna kill him?"
Stripes looked at me strangely.
"So you're not gonna kill him or even try?" I shook my head.
"No! Why? You guys think I am just a kit to stupid to know how small he is?
I know how small I am, I'm reminded of it every single day. Unable to do anything when my sister and mom make huge life decisions.
No, I will attack Frost the way I know how. "
The colour drained from their faces.
"Oh, you don't mean.." Stripes started.
"Oh yes, he means it."
I grinned.
"I am gonna prank Frost.."
3 days later I put my plan together.
With the help of my friends, I find out where Frost likes to hang out.
Underground.
Creepy.
Then we have asked some of the old cats about Frost and how he was as a kit living in the shelter.
What we have found out is listed here:
He loves rats.
Hates water.
Was afraid of a cat named Huch
Ever so mysterious.
Not a lot.
But enough to prank him.
It's midday when we sneak out of the shelter.
Raven carried a rat while Stripes lead us the way. We find our way underground and into the dark spooky lair.
No light was seen, only in some sections of thceilings, there were cracks in a manhole. There was also a steady river of muck flowing beside us.
"Hey squirt, how are we supposed to find Frost? As you know, prank him? " Stripes asked.
"Let him find us," I say.
"But it's dark in here, and it smells what if he surprises us? Stripes argued.
I slowed to a stop.
There was a big puddle of light before us.
"Raven put the rat there," I say. He slipped into the light and dropped the rat there in the middle.
"Now what?" He asked me.
" Now we wait.
"Seriously that's it?" Stripes meowed in disbelief.
"Well do you have a brilliant idea? Cause if you do please share." He clamped his mouth shut.
" I didn't think so."
So we sat by the river a couple paces away.
So we waited...
And waited...
And waited...
And waited.....
Until we got bored out of our minds.
"I don't think he is coming to Scout.
There was a tangy cat scent washing over us. I squinted in the darkness to see a skinny form slinking towards the puddle of light.
However he didn't step in, I could see his white fur and the piercing cold eyes. I shivered.
He looked at the rat, licking his jaws.
"I wonder if this rat will taste good as three stray kittens lost in the tunnels.
Uh oh.
Using group mind, we rose to our feet and began to retreat slowly. Just as we made a good distance, we spun on our heals and made a dash to the surface.
"Run!" I yelled.
With panting breaths, I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and made my way towards it. Then suddenly he came out of nowhere and blocked us off.
His eyes gleamed.
"Going so soon? The party just getting started. " He grinned.
"We're doomed," I whispered.
