Chapter Eight

Chapter Eight

Tobias P.O.V.

A big, black truck pulls into the parking lot and stops right in front of me. It's Matthew. I hold Allaya with one hand and push the cart with another. Matthew opens up the driver-seat door and steps out. Without closing it, he walks over to me.

"What's with all the baby stuff?" He asks me. I was expecting it.

"It's a long story, but I can tell you if you come up to my apartment when you drop me off." I say setting the bags in the back of the truck.

"Okay." Matthew says as dropping my last bag into the trunk. I walk around the side of the truck and sit down in the passenger seat. Matthew sits down in the driver's seat and turns on the engine. I can tell that this truck is used for the back roads, it's nice. We sit in silence until Matthew speaks up, "How's work going? Any good recruits?"

"It's fine, we have a couple really good recruits, but some don't have any clue what they're doing." I say. Matthew nods his head. I can see him peeking at Allaya with his studying look. He can probably tell that she looks like Tris and me. "How's your job going?" I say to change the subject. Matthew works in a lab, but I have no idea what he does. We haven't talked much since-Tris died. He still thinks she's dead, but in twenty minutes, he will know the truth. He will think the same things I did, Cara did, and Caleb did.

The rest of the ride is silent, neither of us knows what to say to the other. He is still wondering why I have a baby with me. I'm just not interested in talking.

We pull into the parking lot, and both of us get out. Matthew grabs half of the bags, and I grab the other half. With Allaya in one arm, the groceries in the other, we head inside. We can immediately see the large lobby. My apartment is floor three. Each apartment is a floor, but overall, they're not that big.

"Let's take the elevator." I say. It would be easier than taking the stairs. The bags bang against my leg as I walk, so I push them farther away from my leg, that way they won't do that anymore. Little things like that can frustrate me. I've been fragile for a while.

We get in the elevator, and I hit the floor three button. It goes up, but for only a couple seconds. I still can't help but think that there is only one foot of material that's keeping me up from falling to the surface. I shiver, and Allaya perks up. The movement scared her.

I jump lightly up and down, trying to calm her. It works, but I can tell she's getting fussy again. She is hungry again. Babies eat a lot, based on their size.

The elevator stops, but the doors don't open. I take out my card that gives me access to my apartment, and swipe it. Each floor has a different card, that way we can't get into other people's apartments. The doors open and my apartment comes into view. Matthew has been here before, so he knows his way around.

My apartment has two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room, living room, and TV room. I only use half of the rooms. The other half have been left, untouched.

I walk in the living-room, and see Caleb on the couch.

"How did you get in here?" I say. Caleb looks up.

He sits up straight and says, "The lady at the desk gave me a key. I said it was important, and that you wanted me to come. She said okay. You don't have the best security around here."

"Why are you here?" I say, getting annoyed.

"I found something." Caleb says, standing up. He hands me a piece of fabric. It's the same fabric as the blanket. No, it is the blanket. "Sorry I had to cut a piece up in order to get a better look, but it was worth it."

"What did you find?" I say, just wanting him to tell me.

"The fabric is at a consistency of materials. It's only made in one place, the Bureau. Since it was made four weeks ago, I believe that Tris is still in the Bureau, considering that's where the blanket was made." Caleb says.

"That's a good thought, but what if it was made in the Bureau and then they moved, we can't be so sure." I say, and Caleb nods his head in agreement.

"Well, you have access to the cameras still, right? Hack into the server and see if you can find anything." Caleb says. I nod my head. Caleb's eyes grow wide, and I look behind me to see Matthew. I forgot he was here. "I didn't know you had visitors." Caleb says, gulping. I guess, now Matthew knows about Tris. I nod my head.

"Tris is still alive?" Matthew asks, with a strange expression across his face that I haven't seen on him before. It's not every day that you find out someone you love, or your friends with, is still alive. When I found out my mother was alive, I was shocked, just as much as this. However, I am happy Tris is alive. When I discovered my mother was, I wasn't as much. She left me, and I never completely forgave her for it.

"Yeah, I brought you in here to tell you." I say.

"I thought you brought me in here to tell me why you have a baby with you." Matthew says. I forgot that I would tell him about Allaya I nod my head.

"That too."

I tell Matthew about Allaya, that I found her in my bedroom, on my bed. That I had no idea where she came from, and why she was here. Then I tell him about how I find the note, and I let him read it. He does the same thing as Caleb and Cara, his face shows many different emotions. I've gotten used to it by now. Caleb tells him why he has reasoning to believe Tris is still here in Bureau.

"I want to help find her. How can I help?" Matthew asks. I don't know how he would be helpful at the moment, considering we have no information he can use.

"As soon as you guys leave, I'll go to the control room. They still allow me in there, so I can check the cameras. I will tell you if I find anything." I say.

"Can I go to? We can both look at the cameras, and it would be twice as fast, more efficient." Matthew offers.

"I can watch Allaya, so you can go." Caleb says. I don't know though, if I trust him enough to do that. I guess I have to, in order to find Tris. Besides, Caleb regrets what he did. I may not have fully forgiven him, but I trust him enough to take care of his own niece.

"Okay." I say.

"We better go if we want to see something." Matthew says. I nod my head. I hand Allaya to Caleb.

"I assume you will be fine?" I say to Caleb. He nods his head. Besides, what could go wrong?

"Let's go." I say to Matthew. We head out the door, to the control room, to find Tris...

to have our happily ever after.
