three
NO ONE EXPECTS ANYTHING,
AS the four of us walk into the lunchroom with our heads held high in the sky. Power and superiority radiated off of us, yet I couldn't feel any of it. I continue to strut, and I will strut with them until my facade crumbles.
"I wish I could be them," One girl says to herself.
I feel my throat begin to bubble.
"They're so perfect."
My eyes begin to grow hot. I shake my head, I can't do this. But, I have to.
The table we always sat in is located in the middle of everything. We were the center of the universe at Saint Cecilia, yet no one saw how truly evil their queens were.
The sun even knew of the hierarchy, as it always seemed to beam at the place Lana sat, giving her the golden glow of a true goddess. The table is empty and suddenly I understood what that word meant. There's nothing left to cling onto, any hopes of escaping is over. There's no use fighting, when the battle's already over. They've taken everything from me, but I will continue to give until my last breath.
I'm shaken out of it when Lana sits down. She hasn't said a word to me since last night, and I'm thankful for it.
"I'm starving," Ahmaya moans aloud, resting her head in her hands. She ponders for a moment, her eyes squinting slightly through her glasses. "Ah, fuck it. My metabolism's faster than boys running from commitment." She hops up from her seat, her usually stoic face replaced with a small smile.
I go to join her, but Jolene's pointed look stops me. Her dark brown eyes looked disgusted as she scanned my body head to toe, before laughing bitterly. "Your thighs are already big enough, are you trying to turn into Madison Butler? God is that girl a whale."
Lana did nothing, which would've hurt more than Jolene's words if I still had the ability to care. The amusement in her eyes glistened, while my cheeks grew a hazing red. I pull down my skirt self-consciously, before taking my seat next to Lana. "Watch yourself, bitch. If you get any bigger we might just ditch you," She warns in disapproval. And just like that, any hunger I had is replaced with a bleak feeling.
