Chapter 3
"Lucas. This is-"
"You've got to be kidding me," Josh muttered under his breath causing Maya to look over at him as Sophie was oblivious to the tension rising in the room.
"Maya. Josh," Lucas finished for her.
"You know them?" Sophie asked, stun and confused being cut off by her fiance, glancing back forth between her fiance and the couple.
Lucas finally took his eyes off of the couple and looked over at his fiance, "This is the bastard who left you pregnant?"
Maya closed her eyes, rubbing her temples, knowing all hell was about to break loose.
"Bastard? Who the hell do you think you are talking to?!" Josh snapped, getting ready to stand up but stopping at the feel of Maya's hand. "I had no clue she was pregnant and don't forget I still owe you at least three ass kicking from high school and I still have them in my back pocket and I'm not afraid to take them out and use them right here right now."
"Josh, please," Maya begged, squeezing a hand on his upper thigh.
Josh took in a deep breath as he looked over at his pregnant wife.
"Obviously there is some bad blood between the two of you. One of you want to fill me in," Sophie asked looking back and forth between Lucas and Josh before her eyes landed on Maya. "Or not."
Maya sighed. "What happened was a long time ago. We are adults now with childr-a child who needs us to act like adults."
Sophie eyed Maya but didn't say anything. "She's right," she finally agreed. "I want what is best for my son."
Josh nodded, "Me too."
Sophie glanced back forth between the two men, "And you two fighting is not it."
Both Lucas and Josh glared at each other but took in deep breathes.
"So can we sit down and discuss where we go from here like adults or not?" she asked, folding her arms across her chest
Josh adjusted in his seat, before slowing nodding as Lucas sat down. "We can."
The four got settled in before Sophie took the lead.
"Hunter needs to be eased in to your life. He doesn't even know you are his father-"
"Who's fault is that?"
"Watch it-" Lucas warned.
"Or what?"
Maya sighed, "Josh," she murmured, resting a hand on his upper thigh again, grabbing his attention.
Josh bit his lip, taking Maya's hand into his. "Fine. We will ease him into our lives. We should start with me at least seeing him every other weekend outside of baseball practice..."
Maya stared over at her husband as he spoke making plans and where they go once they leave from here. Her heart dropping as Josh made no mention he wanted to get a DNA test before easing a child into their lives. She looked up when Josh stop speaking and dropped her hand to hold it out for Sophie to shake.
"Agree."

"Baby girl, you look like crap."
Maya rolled her eyes as she entered into her parent's kitchen a few days from the dinner from hell, "Thanks Mom," she grumbled, watching her mother cook dinner. She knew she couldn't argue about her messy bun and baggy shirt appearance but from morning sickness and stress she couldn't bother getting dressed up and looking normal.
Katy gave her an apologetic smile and quickly change the subject to something more happy. "How did your anniversary go? We never got to talk about it."
Maya bit her lip as she took a seat, "It went."
Katy stopped, looking over at her daughter, confused. "What happened?"
Maya shrugged her shoulder, "I don't even know if you can say we celebrated," she admitted.
Katy raised her eyebrow before putting the lid onto the pot turning the stove on low. "Do I need to break out the wine?"
Maya would love nothing more than a big glass of wine or even better a couple of shots of vodka but knew she couldn't because she would never purposely cause harm to her baby. "No. Water is fine."
Katy nodded before grabbing two bottle of water out of the refrigerator and walking over to her daughter and sitting next to her. "What happened?" she asked again, handing her daughter a water.
Maya took in a deep breath before revealing almost everything to her mother, leaving out the little but precious detail she was pregnant but revealed everything about Sophie and Hunter and how she really feels about the situation. The two remained quiet as Maya knew her mother needed time to let everything sink in. She was still letting it sink in herself before her mom finally spoke softly.
"Maya, if you feel in your heart you can't accept this then you need to love Josh enough to let him go. This is serious. You are talking about a child here. You can't be wishy-washy. You are all in or you are out."
Maya felt her heart break at her mother's words and frantically shook her head. "No."
"Maya, I've been in Josh's shoes. Your child comes before anyone else no matter how much you love the person and you shouldn't make Josh pick between you and his son. It is selfish. I would never want someone in my child's life who wasn't one hundred percent sure from the start. You can't have doubts when it comes to a child."
"This was just dropped on me out of nowhere and we don't even know if Hunter is Josh's son-"
"But Josh believes he is. You've been dropped a bomb and they made divorce for a reason."
Maya rubbed her eyes to keep her tears from falling as she listened to her mother's words. She shook her head again. "No," she said strongly. "And even if I was at that point it's not that easy."
"I'm not saying it's going to be easy," Katy countered. "Nothing about this is easy but sometimes you have to do what's right. No matter how hard it is for yourself."
"Mom, I love Josh. He's my husband. I would never just give up on us like that."
"I know you do and that why I said you have to love him enough to let him go-"
Maya shook her head for what felt like the millionth time. "I can't and I won't."
"Maya," Katy sighed. "Why continue down a road that is going to cause you so much pain? A pain you're not sure you want. He has a child with another woman that you had no clue about when you married him whether you like it or not it changes everything. I know you love Josh. No one will ever question your love for Josh but-"
Maya started to feel her head spin, and not being able to listen to her mother's words anymore and knew what would shut her up, "I'm pregnant."
Katy sat back shock at her daughter's confession. Her daughter never gave any indication about a new family member who would be joining them. "I thought you were still on your birth control?"
"I stopped a few months ago," she revealed, nodding as her tears came down her cheeks and she pressed her lips together. "Josh and I wanted to have a baby so we stopped taking precautions and I found out I was pregnant last month and I waited to tell Josh because I wanted to surprise him on our anniversary and then I thought the two of us come up with a way to tell everyone else," she told her mother all of her big plans softly before shaking her head. "Josh got told twice on our anniversary he is a father. I came second twice that day. She managed to tell him he was a father and he got to see son. His first born," she said, bitterly. "Then there was me. I just wanted everything to be perfect for our anniversary where I was going to surprise him with the news we are going to have a baby to only been pushed off to the side with a rain check on our celebration and to top it off I'm not giving birth to his first baby but his second. We were suppose to be welcoming what was suppose to be both of our first baby into the world and starting the next chapters of our lives together but it's not! He might have a son with another woman. What is suppose to be a happy time for me has been nothing but miserable. And I-I keep looking at myself in the mirror and asking myself what is wrong with you?" Maya cried, shaking her head as she rubbed her eyes. "Why can't you accept this-little boy like Shawn accepted you?"
Katy's heart broke at the sight of distraught daughter, "Maya, sweetie, you have to stop. It's not good for the baby for you to be stressed out so much. It's going to take time. It's not something you can swallow and think everything is going to be fine."
Maya nodded, wiping away some of her tears off her cheek. "You're right," she swallowed, staring straight ahead as if her mind was somewhere else. "I want to support Josh. I want to believe this is his son because he believes it but I want proof," she murmured after the two were quiet for a moment. "I want proof he is Josh's son. Is that so wrong of me to want proof?"
Maya asked out loud. She knew deep down depending on the person their answers would be different but something inside of her couldn't let go of the fact she didn't believe Hunter was Josh's son. She wouldn't be able to let it go until she had her answers, but was the answers worth the cost of her marriage?
What do you think? Should Maya go with her gut and demand proof? Is Maya right and Hunter isn't Josh's son? Or is Josh's beliefs he is his son right? Please leave me a review with your thoughts. Until next timexoxo.
