Chapter Seventeen
"Josh?"
Maya said, hesitantly, after he said nothing. She was wondering what was going through her husband's mind and she was scared she may have come off too strong and should have eased into this, but she couldn't help herself after her conversation with Hunter. This needed to be said and the two have waited long enough for Sophie to start making moves.
Josh continued staring into his wife's eyes, "You're right," he admitted quietly, nodding. "I want you to be comfortable when you go in to labor and when Violet comes," he told her, making Maya smile. "I want both of us to be at peace and happy when we get to see her for the first time and bring our little girl home. I want her to come home to a peaceful and happy home and we are running out of time."
Maya nodded, giving his hand a little squeeze.
"Maybe we can talk to Topanga about it?"
"Yeah, it will be a start," Maya agreed, giving Josh's hand another squeeze.
Josh nodded, "I know this isn't her field but she may be familiar with it or at least give us her thoughts on what to do and recommend someone she knows."
Maya could see her husband's mind racing as he process all his thoughts about their next moves, "This is going to be for the best," she eased, knowing Josh was worried and even scared of how Sophie would react if she found out they were making moves. "We will get to really know and then if Hunter is your son we will have proof so Sophie can't just take Hunter away from us. We can get legal rights to him and when Violet comes we will know how to introduce her to Hunter. Is she his little sister or is she his Coach's daughter and if he is yours you get to become a dad to him and not just Coach. I know this is hard. I know you want to take Sophie's word that Hunter is yours but the thing is we still need proof. I need it as your wife and you need it legally."
Josh nods, giving Maya a quick kiss while resting his hand on her growing stomach feeling his daughter's little kicks.
"We are in this together."

"I guess this is what it is going to feel like when I have to share your Daddy with you," Maya murmured, resting her hand on her stomach.
She watched Josh leave with Hunter out their bedroom window to take him to the batting cage and Halloween costume shopping with Hunter's friends. She was exhausted after their conversation and really wanted to cuddle up in bed with Josh and have a relaxing afternoon but she had already volunteered Josh to go with Hunter and didn't want to break Hunter's heart by keeping Josh to herself.
She felt her stomach growl causing her to look down at her bump, "Okay, message received. I can already tell you are going to be one of those hangry people," she told her unborn daughter as she walked out of her bedroom, stopping in place as she caught Sophie staring in the room that would be her daughter's nursery. It was weird being home alone with Sophie and this made it even weirder.
"Is this suppose to be Hunter's room?" Sophie asked, acknowledging Maya's presents as she nodded her head to the bedroom noticing all the boxes and furniture spread around.
Maya shook her head, "No. This is actually Violet's nursery. We are going to redo the guest bedroom when the times comes for Hunter."
Sophie looked over surprised before nodding. "So you two haven't even started on the nursery yet."
"We have," Maya corrected. "We started to pack everything up that was in here and we planned to really start remodeling the room this week so we can have it finished in time and if it's not finished it's okay because she is going to stay in our room for a bit after she is born before we move her into her nursery," she shrugged, pretending it wasn't a big deal even though her insides were screaming her and Josh needed to get busy because she really was worried it wouldn't be even if Josh kept her calm about it by reminding her Violet was going to be in their room until they felt ready to move her into her nursery and they had no clue when they would feel ready so they had time.
Sophie gave her a small smile. "It will make it easier. Those newborn nights are some long nights. I hope you are ready to be sleep deprived and having no life outside of your baby."
"I am," Maya said, with no doubts. "I'm ready so ready for daughter."
Sophie gave her another small smile, "So, I've been meaning to bring this up but I was talking to the other mothers from the team and we would love to throw you a baby shower."
Maya's mouth dropped opened, shocked, before she shook her head, "No that won't be necessary. My mom and Riley are alread-"
"It's the least we can do! Josh is amazing with all our kids. They all love him. Not just Hunter."
Maya pressed her lips together she loved hearing how great Josh was with the kids on his team but the last thing she wanted was Sophie to host her a baby shower. She shook her head again, giving her a small smile "Really it's okay. It is sweet of you to offer and I know it doesn't look like we have it together but we do and my mom and Riley are already planning a baby shower and I really don't need two baby showers."
Sophie stared at Maya making her uncomfortable. Maya thought for sure we going to have some comeback.
"Okay," Sophie back downed, making Maya relieved. "Well if you won't let us throw you a baby shower then at least let us get you and Josh a gift you two will love."
Maya shook her head again for what felt like the millionth time, "You guys really don't have to. I know from the way the nursery it looks like Josh and I are far behind and have lots of shopping to do but it's okay we have everything under control."
Sophie gave her a small smile. "Maya. Stop. Us, mothers," she pointed to her herself. "Want to. We all love Josh."
Maya's stomach sunk at the way she said they all loved Josh.
"I saw all the baby catalogues and magazines downstair and we can do some online shopping. The two of us can pick a gift out and I'll talk to the other mothers to get it. Let them know the baby shower is off but instead we are going to get a gift that you and Josh will love. "
Maya pressed her lips together, remaining quiet.
"I'm not going to accept no as an answer," Sophie smiled. "Gift or baby shower?"
Maya swallowed, "Okay, I guess a gift is fine" she hesitantly agreed, knowing there was no way of getting out it and that is how she found herself sitting on the couch looking for a gift with Sophie. She made sure to stop in the kitchen to make her a quick lunch because she knew Violet would make her even more uncomfortable than she already was if she didn't feed baby girl.
"So, you guys are naming her Violet?"
"Mmhmm," Maya nodded, a smile coming to her face thinking about her daughter.
"Are you giving her your last name or Josh's?"
"Mine and Josh's. I took his last name."
Sophie raised an eyebrow but nodded and went back to looking through the baby catalogue.
Maya frowned at Sophie's reaction but shook it off and went back searching for a gift.
"Do you guys have a middle name picked out?"
Maya looked back up from her screen to see Sophie is back to looking over at her. She nodded, "We do. Gabriella."
"Violet Gabriella."
Maya nodded, "Violet Gabriella Matthews," she said, smiling.
"That's pretty."
Maya nodded, "Yeah I think so too. I love that she has her own name but is also named after her daddy. I have a feeling she is going to be the biggest Daddy's girl," she added. She knew she going down to Sophie's level but two could play this game. She could see Sophie forced her smile stay on her face before returning back to the catalogue she was flipping through and Maya smiled to herself.
"Oh look at this!"
Maya looked up to see Sophie excitedly holding up a picture of a beautiful light pink crib with beautiful pink and white lace bedding to match.
"It's beautiful isn't it?"
Maya had to admit it was beautiful and if she wasn't stuck on the nursery in her dream and hers and Josh's discussion on they wanted to keep the nursery's furniture neutral so their other future babies could use it she would want it even if it wasn't really her style. "It is but Josh and I want something more gender neutral so we are thinking white or possibly a light brown wood if we really love it."
"Why boring white when you are having a girl and you can have beautiful pink things like this? It is part of the fun of having a girl is all the cute little girl stuff."
"Well...we want more kids."
Sophie scrunched her face up at Maya's admission. She shook her head, "Trust me, you're going to wish you went with pink."
"Well pink won't work with what I was planning for her nursery. I plan on painting her walls white with one light peach wall that we are going to put the crib against with purple violets and white letters spelling out her name above the crib," Maya told her, remembering her dream with the beautiful nursery and she wanted her daughter's nursery to look as close to it as it did her dream when she saw her daughter's name come to her. The pink crib and bedding is beautiful but it wasn't what she wanted.
"Really?" Sophie raised an eyebrow, "You would think Josh would want pink for his princess," she mumbled under her breath. "Too bad you're having a girl. A boy would have been easy with Josh being into baseball."
Maya took in a deep breath, tucking her hair behind her ears. She wanted this over with and she wanted it over with now. She didn't want to have to keep defending what she wanted. "I think I want to stick to white."
"Okay," Sophie sighed. "At least you haven't done anything to the room yet so it makes it easy to change your mind," she murmured.
Maya bit her tongue and went back searching for a gift to get this over with
"What's going on in here?"
Maya looked up to see Josh and Hunter back from the batting cages and Halloween costume shopping and she was never more happy to see Josh than at that moment. She watched Hunter run over to his mom hopping in her lap and showing her his costume as Josh walked over to sit next to her.
"We had to cancel the batting cages they were down but we got his costume."
Maya smiled as she took in Hunter's excitement over his scary costume and didn't seem to upset about not being able to go to the batting cages.
"What are you two up to?" Josh asked, confused as he looked between his wife and Sophie.
"We are picking out a gift."
Josh furrowed his eyebrows cause Maya to give him a force smile.
"Maya didn't want all the moms and I from the baseball team to throw her a baby shower," Sophie told him causing Josh to glance over in Maya's direction. "So I made her at least agree with us buying a big gift for you two. I was thinking this crib," Sophie added, holding up the picture of the light pink crib with beautiful pink bedding to match. "Isn't it beautiful?"
Josh nodded, looking at the picture mesmerized, "Yeah, it really is."
"Couldn't you just imagine your little princess lying in this beautiful crib?"
Josh nodded again, his eyes never leaving the picture, causing Maya's insides to turn.
"I knew it! See I was right," Sophie grinned in Maya's direction.
"It's beautiful," she agreed. "I never said it wasn't, but I thought we were going with white?" she looked over at Josh.
"We are," Josh confirmed, nodding, looking over at Maya. "The crib is beautiful but it's not the crib for my little princess. I'm sure my little princess will be happy in whatever we pick for her and Maya and I were thinking white."
Maya smirked to herself seeing Sophie look deflated.
"Well if that is what you two want."
"It is," Josh reinforced.
Maya gave him a small smile. She felt the two were back to being in sync with each other before Sophie came back into the picture and they needed to remain that way.

"There we go."
Riley said, taking a picture frame of her family and placing it on the side table. She stepped back, slowly spinning around to look at her new home. It was a small cozy apartment, but it was beautiful and just what she needed to begin her fresh new start.
She walked over taking the last picture frame out of the box causing her to stop in place. It was a picture from high school. A picture of her at a party...a picture of her by a bonfire...a picture of her kissing her boyfriend's cheek by the bonfire...a picture of kissing her boyfriend who would tragically die a week later.
She sat down on her couch holding the picture frame. It was the last picture ever taken of the two. She stared at the picture reflecting on her life and where she was at. She still lived with the what ifs and wondered where the two would be at in life but knew he would want her to be happy in life whatever she did, wherever she ended up at and whomever she ended up with and that's exactly what she planned. She already traveled, and had the job of her dreams and now it was finding the right person to settle down with.
She frowned at the sound of a knock on her front door. She carefully placed the picture frame on her table before she quickly made her way over opening the door, surprised to find him standing on the other side, looking nervous with his hands in his pockets.
"Lucas?"
I hope you enjoyed. Are you rooting for Rucas? Or you hoping Riley finds someone new? Are you liking Maya starting to fight back a little against Sophie? Please leave me a review with your thoughts! Until next timexoxo.
