Chapter Nineteen

Maya bit her lip, glancing around her brother-in-laws kitchen's table at him and his wife to her mother and father in laws to her own set of parents. She knew Riley would be there to support her in her own way but after talking to Riley on the phone she knew she sounded drained after being dropped off by Lucas at her home and wanted to take a nap. She needs to remember to ask Riley what exactly was going on with her and Lucas. The sound of a hand hitting the table made Maya jump, knocking her out of her thoughts.

"It's about time!"

Alan rolled his eyes at his wife's excitement, "I thought you believed Hunter was yours?" he asked looking over at his youngest son.

"Well, I don't think he is his," Amy cut in, confidently, before her baby boy could answer. "I'm sorry Josh but I never believed Hunter is your son. I don't believe a word that girl says! Why after all these years? Why didn't we find out when she was pregnant?"

"Think back to the time when she found out she was pregnant and put yourself in her place," Alan pointed out. "Josh was out of control, partying and having a different girl every night-"

"-And she was one of them. She chose to be one of those different girls knowing his reputation," Amy defended her son.

"-And stealing old lady's credit cards," Alan continued.

Maya sighed at her husband's past being thrown back up. This was the last thing she needed. Sophie was enough. She looked over at her father as he raised an eyebrow in her direction. She sunk a little lower in her seat, resting a hand on her growing belly,

Josh shook his head, frowning, as he sat up straighter and held his hand up, "Wait a minute I didn't steal an old lady's credit card unless by old lady you mean mom's credit card and I didn't steal it. She left it out on the counter."

Maya rested a hand on Josh's shoulder, making him sit back in his seat causing him to look over at her. She slightly shook her head, knowing he wasn't making his case any better. "Josh does believe Hunter is his," she spoke up, looking over at him to get him to confirm it, "But we want a DNA test to confirm it so we can get rights-"

"Josh can get rights," Shawn tried to correct Maya.

"We," Maya corrected back. "I'm Josh's wife,' she reminded him. "We are married. If Hunter is Josh's then Hunter is Josh's son, mine and Josh's little girl's older brother and I'll be his step-mother. He is going to be apart of my life too. All of our lives."

"So, you guys believe Hunter is Josh's and have already started to plan to involve him in your lives," Cory entered in the conversation.

Both Maya and Josh nodded.

"We want to be involved in Hunter's life. We want him to be involved in ours. We want him to have a relationship with us and his little sister."

"But what happens if Hunter isn't yours?" Topanga asked, softly.

Maya and Josh looked at each other. "We haven't discussed that outcome," Maya murmured, lacing her fingers through Josh's.

"Maya, do you believe Hunter is Josh's?"

Maya looked over in the direction of her father after the question left his lips before looking back at her husband.

"You don't have to answer that," Josh told her. "Your support is enough. Stop putting Maya in a difficult situation and making her answer a question she may not be comfortable answering," he looked over Shawn's direction before glancing around the table. "If Hunter turns out to not be mine then we will figure out where to go from there and how we want to approach it."

Topanga nodded, "My best advice is you seek a lawyer," she advised them before anyone could scold or say anything else to the young couple. "And I know a good one I can recommend who works in family law. I think she will advise you to file for a court order paternity test and go from there, but if you want to keep this out of court and come to agreement between the three of you then I advise both of you to sit Sophie down together and try to talk to her civilly and tell her you feel you gave her enough time to settle in and it's now time to schedule a DNA test and get the results before the holidays. You can decide from there visitation and how you are going to handle holidays for the rest of this year and the years to come. No matter what still get it written out for the courts and if she doesn't agree to a DNA test then this is where it can get messy. You tell her you have a lawyer and you are taking her to court. It may get ugly after that."

The young couple nodded.

Amy cleared her throat, "My best advice is you should focus on welcoming my little granddaughter into the world."

Josh sighed, "Mom, Violet is our focus. She is one of the biggest parts of why we want to move forward."

"Yea," Maya agreed. "We want our daughter to get to know her brother and not have to be afraid Sophie is going to run away with Hunter. If we don't have rights we can't stop her. We called you guys here not to disagree with what we are doing but for your support," she looked between the three older couples. "We know it's better to have more people in our corner. We could be going into a tough battle if Sophie handles this wrong and decides to fight us. We all deserve to know the truth and if Hunter is Josh's son we deserve rights to him. Violet deserves to get to know her big brother. We all deserve to spend time with him and get to know him and to celebrate Christmas and other holidays with him. He should be included in our family. We can't do that letting Sophie calling the shots. It hasn't worked because she doesn't want to move forward. We let her call the shots all summer and into the school year and now fall. All the holidays are coming up and I'm going to be giving birth soon. We just want to begin getting this settled and we are hoping to have support from every one of you but even if you picked to not support us then fine, we don't need your support." Maya paused to look each one of them in the eye. "Josh and I have each other and if all we have is love then so be it. We have each other, our love and our daughter. We'll get through this."

The young couple looked around the table watching the older couples slowly nod their heads and both let out a sigh of relief.

"Finally! You're home!"

Maya barely had any time to put her purse down and take off her coat before Sophie excitedly grabbed her hand and led her to the living room.

"Surprise!"

Maya jumped back, resting her hand on her heart. Her mouth dropped open at the sight of some of the team's mothers standing next to big gift as Sophie came to stand next to her.

"I know. I know you said you didn't want a baby shower," Sophie smiled. "But a few of the other mothers wanted to be here to give you the gift and to thank you so not a baby shower. You are only opening the one gift and then everyone will happily leave."

Maya swallowed forcing a smile, really wishing Josh would have returned home with her instead of staying back at his brother's to spend a little time with his parents.

"Now open your gift!"

Maya looked around at the excited mothers as she walked over ripping the wrapping paper off. Her heart sunk at the pink crib she specifically said no to instead of the beautiful white one they picked out to match Violet's room. She forced herself to remember the other mothers were watching her open this gift they were excited to give to her and that none of them knew this wasn't what she wanted, so she tried to keep a fake smile on her face hoping her eyes didn't give it away. "It's beautiful. Thank you," she murmured, looking at each mother and giving them a smile.

She made small talk with the four mothers for a few minutes, each one talking about how excited they are to meet her baby, and how happy they were for her and Josh before each left one by one. She watched the last mother shut the door behind her before turning to Sophie who had a huge smile on her face. "I said no to the pink crib."

"I know you did but the other mothers and I thought this was too beautiful to pass up."

Maya sighed, running her hand through her hair. "But it's not what I wanted."

"But Josh-"

"No Josh doesn't want it either. He thought it was beautiful and it is but it's not what we wanted. Josh and I discussed this."

"Oh I know you love discussions."

Maya narrowed her eyes in. "Excuse me?"

"You met up with my fiancé and discuss mine and his relationship or should I say ex-fiancé thanks to you."

Maya swallowed, knowing she couldn't really deny the claim. She did meet up with Lucas to talk to him about not starting something with Riley when he was involved with

"Don't try to deny it. Lucas told me you two had a conversation not so long ago and because of you when I think about it he came home acting all weird right after that and suddenly he needed to think about things which led me here and then he called off our engagement this morning. He ended things for good."

"I didn't mean to cause trouble. I just-"

"What do you mean you didn't mean to cause trouble?"

Maya shook her head,. "I was just doing what I thought was right. I didn't want my best friend to get hurt."

"Well thanks to you my engagement is over."

Maya sighed, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear. "It's not because of-"

"How do you think Josh would feel knowing you went and had lunch with Lucas?"

Maya frowned at the accusation in Sophie's voice. She shook her head, shrugging, "Josh wouldn't care because he knows he has nothing to worry about."

Sophie folds her arms, glaring at Maya "Every couple has troubles."

"They do, " Maya agrees, knowing her and Josh have had their own ups and downs.

"You overstepped. How would you feel if I told you about mine and Josh's conversation?" Sophie said, looking Maya straight into the eyes.

Maya wondered where Sophie was going with this.

"About how if I told Josh I was pregnant with Hunter he said we would be a family. You should be thanking me instead of destroying my relationship because you wouldn't be married to Josh or have that little girl in your stomach if it weren't for me. Remember that."

Maya swallowed, trying to keep her emotions at bay. She wasn't going to let Sophie know she was getting to her. She watched Sophie walk up the stairs and hearing the bedroom door shut. She slowly let out a breath, resting a hand on her stomach as the other wiped away a falling tear.

XOXOJOSHAYAXOXO

Maya found herself pacing in hers and Josh's bedroom waiting for him to show up any moment. He already sent her a text asking if she needed anything and that he was on his way home. She tried to shake off Sophie words.

"He said we would be a family...you should be thanking me...you wouldn't be married to Josh or have that little girl in your stomach...if it weren't for me."

Maya found herself taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly. She looked up at the sound of her bedroom door opening, revealing Josh,

"Hey," he smiled, holding up the chocolate shake she loved. "I know you said you didn't want one but I know you."

Maya smiled, melting at her husband's sweetest. She took a sip before turning her attention on her husband who had her back to her going through his clothes to take out a pair of pants. "We need to talk."

"About?" he asked as he changed into his sweatpants.

"Sophie?"

Josh turned to look at his wife. "What happened?"

Maya calmed her nerves down before speaking, "Did you tell Sophie you two would be a family if you would have found out about Hunter?"

Josh frowned, "What? No. Well-"

Maya raised an eyebrow when Josh started to backtrack.

"-That's not exactly what I said-I said we probably would have tried but it wouldn't have worked because someway somehow I would have met you because we are meant for each other. I did say we would probably have tried but it wouldn't have worked. I didn't say we would be a family."

Every doubt washed away from her at her husband's words and the look in his eyes. Her hearted melted and smile came to her face.

"Sophie told you I said that?"

Maya nodded, "Lucas broke off everything today with her and she is blaming me and she told me that I should be thanking her because if it wasn't for her we wouldn't be married and I wouldn't have our little girl in my stomach."

Josh felt himself boiling. "I'm going to talk to her," he snapped.

"Josh!" Maya said through her teeth, trying to stop him as she followed him out their bedroom. She watched as Sophie answered Josh's knocked and him telling her they needed to talk downstairs right now. She swallowed as Sophie looked over in her direction.

"Did you tell my wife she should be thanking you because if it weren't for you we wouldn't be married and having a baby?" Josh asked as soon as the three were downstairs and not wasting any time.

Sophie glanced over at Maya before looking back at Josh. "Yes, it's the truth."

Josh shook his head, reminding himself to stay calm, "No it's not the truth. I said we would have tried so that part is true because I think most people would try for their baby but you left out how I told you it wouldn't have worked because I somehow would have met Maya so even if you didn't keep Hunter from me and we would have tried I would still be married to Maya and having a baby because we would have broken up a long time ago."

Sophie rolled her eyes. "You don't know that Josh."

"I do know that!" Josh snapped as quietly as he could. He knew Hunter was upstairs playing his game and could easily take his headset off to hear them. "Sophie I'm done playing your games. I've done everything you've wanted but one thing I'm not going to let you do is try to wreck my marriage."

Maya felt her heart start to race as her husband kept speaking to Sophie. She prayed Josh wouldn't say anything he would regret in his anger.

"I want a DNA test for Hunter and I want it as soon as possible so we can come to some terms for custody and if you want to fight me then we'll see you in court."

I hope you all enjoyed! Please leave me a review with your thoughts! Until next timexoxo.
