Chapter Fourteen
"I can't believe I'm going to be a girl dad," Josh said, amazed. "It blows my mind," he continued as he raked up the pink confetti in the backyard.
"Mine too," Riley agreed, throwing some of the garbage off the table while Maya held the garbage bag opened. The three of them were finishing up cleaning after everyone called it a night and left. They didn't want to wait till the morning and decided to get it over with before calling it a night themselves. "I can't imagine you with a girl. I only see you with boys."
Maya stopped picking the garbage off the ground, swallowing, as she listened to their conversation. She still felt uneasy about the fact she was having a girl knowing how much Josh wanted a boy. It was still fresh, and she couldn't stop picturing the happy look on Sophie's face at seeing Maya was indeed having a girl.
"But then again it is going to be sweet seeing you with a girl. Manly man Josh dressed in a princess dress and drinking tea."
Josh shrugged, smiling. "Yeah, if it makes my daughter happy then I'll gladly wear the pink princess dress and play tea parties."
Maya's smile. It was going to be sweet seeing Josh with their little girl and it helped ease her worries seeing the light in Josh's eyes as he talked about their daughter.
"She may love playing tea parties with you until Aunt Riley arrives because just like I'm your wife's favorite person I'm going to be your daughter's too."
"What?" Josh frowned. "You're not going to be my daughter's favorite person and your not my wife's neither," he continued causing Maya to chuckle knowing these two were about to bicker about something stupid.
"Sure, I'm not," Riley grinned, playfully rolling her eyes before looking over seriously at her best friend. "Maya?" she raised an eyebrow.
Maya shook her head feeling both of their eyes on her, waiting for her to answer, "I love both of you," she answered, while she started to wipe down the table causing them both to roll their eyes.
"Such a mom answer," Riley pouted.
"Yeah, tell her the real answer," Josh added.
"I'm sorry to burst both of ya'll's bubbles but Violet is going to be tough competition for both of you to beat."
Riley dropped the chair she was folding up while her mouth dropped opened too, "Violet?" she asked, shocked.
Both Josh and Maya proudly nodded, realizing Maya revealed their daughter's name.
"Yeah, we are naming her Violet," Josh confirmed, smiling saying his unborn daughter's name out loud.
"You're even naming her after me," Riley awed, placing her hand over heart causing confusion to come over both Josh and Maya's faces.
"What?" Josh snapped. "Your name is Riley May. How do you get Violet out of Riley Maya?"
"Duh," Riley glared in her uncle's direction. "But violet was my favorite color when I was younger, remember? My room was even painted a violet color."
"Oh yeah," Maya scrunch her face up, remembering her best friend's childhood room.
"You got to be kidding me," Josh mumbled causing Maya to smile and reach over to stroke his face.
"Point Riley," Riley grinned at her uncle.
"Well two points Josh because my point is doubled because I helped make the baby. I'm the one who put Violet in her stomach if you know what I mean."
"Eww, thanks I know how babies are made."
"Yeah, so you know how much fun Maya has with me."
Maya rolled her eyes at both of them, "So what's on the agenda for tomorrow?" she asked, changing subject before thetwo started a real argument about who she loved the most.
"Moving," Riley answered.
"Great, I'll help you pack" Josh grinned.
"Joshua," Maya warned.
"Oh full name you know I love when you say my full name like that," Josh smirked, seductively, caused Maya to shake her head while blushing.
Riley threw a piece of a popped balloon at Josh, "Eww again!" she complained, causing the couple to chuckle.
"Three points Josh."
"But what do you mean by moving?" Maya asked, getting back on track. "You've never mentioned anything about finding a place or anything?"
"I know, but I've intruded enough on you guys."
Maya went to cut her off but stopped when Riley held her hand up.
"And Lucas told me he knows of an apartment that-"
"Wait! Lucas found you an apartment?" Josh asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Well he didn't find me it. He knows I've been staying here and I have no plans of going back to Italy and Zay you may remember from high school is looking for someone to finish his lease because he is moving to LA and Lucas asked if I would be interested in taking over it and I said yes."
Maya and Josh glanced at each other.
"Stop! It was innocent. He just knows of my situation and was helping"
"You just never mentioned it."
"Because he told me about it today and you two were busy talking to people and finding out the gender of your baby."
Both Josh and Maya before slowly nodding. They couldn't disagree.
"I'm excited for my fresh new start."
Maya gave her best friend a small smile. She could see the hope in her eyes and prayed it stayed there.

Maya bit her lip as she took in all the amazing sounding desserts on the menu. She knew she should probably order real food but she felt an overpowering craving for something sweet, so her eyes stayed on the desserts.
"Hey."
Maya smiled looking up at Lucas. "Hey," she greeted back.
"I was surprised you wanted to meet up."
Maya nodded watching him take his jacket off and pick up his own menu. "Yeah"
The two placed their orders. Maya going for what she prayed would be a huge piece of the chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream that she couldn't resist and Lucas a simple grilled ham and cheese sandwich with fries.
Maya watched the waitress walk away before turning her attention on Lucas and getting straight to the point. "I wanted to talk to you about-"
"Riley?"
Maya nodded while Lucas swallowed. "I don't want you to hurt her."
"I'm not going to-"
"But you are."
Lucas's eyes went wide for second before he swallowed again.
"You are engaged. Riley just got out of a relationship. What is starting to happen between you two can't happen. I don't know yours and Sophie's relationship but what I do know is she is your fiancé. I don't want Riley to get hurt. It took her forever to get over Evan after he was killed in the car crash when we were in high school then she got into a good place. She doesn't need to get hopeful that something is going to happen between the two of you when it's not."
"I don't want to hurt Riley."
"Then you need to do what is right. Leave Riley alone or end your engagement. You can't have both."
Lucas slowly nodded.
"You end your engagement or you make it clear to Riley you can only be friends."
