Chapter Eleven

"Well you shouldn't be."

Maya's eyes went wide as she looked up at her best friend.

"Josh isn't going to let Sophie ruin your marriage or your guys' family. You said it yourself," Riley eased. "Josh is head over heels in love with you. Every girl dreams to have a guy look at them the way he looks at you. Josh isn't going to give up on that easy. He learned from when you two were teenagers and you trust Josh in doing what he thinks is right. You can't control Sophie and the Hunter situation. Your best bet is to stay out of it as much as you can and just live your life. Start planning for your and Josh's baby. You can support Josh when he needs supported but you should do you and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and stop worrying what you can't control."

Maya bit her lip nodded.

"Hunter isn't your child and when it comes back he is Josh's then Josh needs to be the one to deal with Sophie then you can start making a bond with Hunter after he does because you should have one. You are the mother of his little brother or sister but you don't want to be the bad person."

Maya replayed Riley's words in her mind. Stay out it. Live your life. Start planning for baby. Riley was right. It was time to take control of what she could and it was getting ready for her baby. "Your right," she told her. "I need to start staying out of it because I get no where and it just stresses me and my baby is going to be here soon. I need to get ready for it. I've had to put a lot on hold. I'm going to be in my third trimester soon."

Riley nodded, smiling. "Good for you. You take control like I'm about to take control of my life and relationship."

Maya raised an eyebrow. She knew something was off about Riley's relationship but hearing Riley voiced it still surprised her.

Riley sighed, "It's time I face the music. Things have changed. I've changed being back home. Marcello and I made sense in Italy but in America...I find myself more and more wanting to stay home. I thought Italy was my home but..."

Maya smiled at the thought of Riley coming back home, but didn't want to get to excited at the thought. "But you're realizing maybe its not?"

Riley slowly nodded. "I love Marcello and I was happy in Italy and thought I could stay there forever but being home and away from Marcello has made me realized maybe I wasn't as happy and in love as I thought I was. I'm suppose to be here."

Maya took in a deep breath, "Wow," she breathed out.

"I know."

"I think you should really think things through and be honest with Marcello. I don't really know the guy but he seems to really care for you."

Riley nodded. "I plan on talking to him tonight at dinner."

"Coach Matthews, are you coming to dinner with us? We're going for burgers and fries."

Josh still felt the bang at being called Coach Matthews and constantly had to remind himself he was following Sophie's lead. "Sorry bud, I gotta get home but you have fun with your mom and eat a burger for me."

"Aww man."

Josh could see the disappointment in both Hunter and Sophie's faces,

"Are you sure you can't come?" Sophie asked.

Josh nodded, "Yeah, I have to get home to Maya."

Sophie swallowed at the mention of Maya.

"Look, I know things between you and Maya are...tense-" Josh murmured hoping Hunter wasn't paying much attention to the adults.

"Hunter go get your things and we'll leave here in a second. I need to talk to Coach Matthews before we go."

The two watched Hunter go. "I don't have a problem with Maya."

Josh stopped himself from rolling his eyes.

"I just don't completely trust Maya around my son."

"Maya has given you no reason to not trust her."

"Really?" Sophie asked, sarcastically. "Tell me this how many times she has asked you about Hunter outside of paternity? Just asked you how is he doing? If he likes school? Is he going to play any other sports? You know? Just normal questions outside of paternity. I bet she doesn't even know his birthday."

Josh swallowed, looking away.

"That's what I thought. She hasn't shown any interest in my son and want me to tell you what is going to happened here soon?" Sophie asked but didn't give him a chance to answer. "She is going to become all about her baby. Everything is going to revolve around her baby. Hunter is going to be pushed completely to the side to where she hopes he will be forgotten. Watch and see. I can promise you when you get home she won't ask about Hunter, but she'll talk all about her baby which I don't fully blame her. She is about to be a first time mom, but if she cared for your son like she should being your wife she would at least ask about him. I know if my husband had a child with another woman I would want him involved in welcoming his little sibling into the world. I would be getting involved and wanting to get to know him especially if I knew his mother was nervous and wanting to take baby steps to incorporate him in our lives. I would want to show I'm interested to ease his mother's worries to make the transition easier, but all she wants is to rip us out of hers and your world. You'll see I'm right when you go home and she doesn't ask about Hunter."

Josh went to reply but stopped when Hunter ran back up to them.

"Ready buddy?"

The three were about to walk out when an older woman who looked to be in her late sixties early seventies stopped them.

"I wanted to tell you two you have a beautiful family and it was refreshing watching the three of you."

Josh's heart sank as he watched Sophie give the older woman a smile and thanked her before he could speak up as the older woman walked past them before Sophie's eyes landed on Josh and she looked down at her son.

"Let's go."

The two let Hunter lead the way.

"Remember what I said," Sophie mumbled, as she walked to catch up with her son.

Maya listened to the silence, knowing it wasn't going to stay this way much longer. Soon a baby would fill the silence, She rested a hand on her stomach. A smile coming to her face as she felt her baby dancing in her stomach. She still couldn't believe she had a baby inside her. A baby that was part her and part Josh. She pictured what her daughter or son would look like. Would he or she have her blonde hair or Josh's dark hair. Would it's little face features look more like her or Josh or a perfect mixture.

She had a feeling it was a boy but at night she had dreams she was having a girl.

"Whatcha thinking about?"

Maya looked over surprised to her husband home and standing in the doorway with his eyes on her.

"Not too much," she shrugged, smiling. "Just the fact soon a baby will be filling the silence and wondering if the baby is a boy or girl and what it's going to look like."

Josh returned her smile, "That sounds like a lot," he laughed, as he walked over and joined her on the couch. Maya adjusted herself so she leaned into her husband as his hands instantly landed on her stomach.

"Where's Riley?"

"Out with Marcello."

Josh nodded, as he rubbed Maya's growing belly feeling it's little kicks as she leaned even further back into him with her eyes closed. "What did you decide the baby is?" he asked after a moment of silence, knowing the two were going to find out what their baby was in a couple of days.

"I go back and forth," Maya answered, softly. "You?"

"You already know," Josh answered, quickly, gently pressing down on her stomach hoping to feel the baby move again. "I think little Joshua Jr. is going to be born into the world soon."

Maya rolled her eyes, "Of course you haven't given up on it being a boy."

"I can't help it. I love the idea of a boy. Me out there in our backyard tossing a ball back and forth to little Joshua Jr."

A small smile came to Maya's face at the picture of Josh with their son. She wanted to give that to him so bad, but she couldn't stop herself from laughing and playfully rolling her eyes, "Joshua Jr.?" she asked raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah, it has a nice little ring to it, doesn't it?"

"Why am I not surprised you want to call him a Junior?"

"Why wouldn't I? I mean look at me."

Maya smiled, shaking her head. "We'll see, you might get your wish. Lately, I've been having a feeling it's a boy but I've also been having these dreams we have a little girl named Violet."

"A girl?" Josh breathed out. The thought of having a little girl scaring him to death.

Maya nodded.

"Violet Matthews," he murmured to himself, and feeling it had a nice ring to it. "We've never even talked about the name Violet."

"I know," Maya nodded. "In my dream we are in her nursery and the name Violet is written on the walls in white block letters above her white crib. It's weird. I've had this dream more than once. The nursery is always the exact same. The peach wall, white letters and purple violets next to the letterings but I never actually get to see her though. I just see her nursery and her little legs and arms but I never get to see her little face because every time I get close to seeing her little face I wake up."

Josh smiled, listening to Maya describe her dream.

"I did have one crazy dream where they handed me this baby that looked like Shrek and I started crying saying it wasn't my baby and there has been a mistake," Maya admitted causing the two to laugh until their stomachs hurt.

"Shrek?" Josh laughed.

"Yeah, and it's not funny. I was terrified," she tried to tell him seriously but couldn't stop laughing herself.

"Well I don't think you have to worry about that, especially if our baby looks like you," Josh told her when their laughing calmed down.

Maya playfully rolled her eyes before smiling, "Well, I want our baby to look like you. I want it to have your dark hair, your blue eyes and your nose and smile."

"Well that's too bad because I'm hoping it looks just like you."

Maya shook her head while Josh nodded before pecking her nose.

"I guess we are going to have to hope the baby is a perfect mixture of the two of us so when you look at it you see me and when I look at it I see nothing but you."

A smile came across Maya's face as she stared into Josh's eyes. "I can't believe we are having a baby."

Josh nodded. "It still amazes me to know we got a little one in there," he said, resting his hand back on her stomach.

"Me too."

"And we are going to find out if it is little Violet or Joshua jr."

Maya nodded, smiling as she closed her eyes again. "We are."

"How was your day?" Josh murmured, placing a kiss on the side of Maya's head.

"Good," Maya smiled, opening her eyes. "I just spent a lot of time thinking about our baby and starting to think of ideas for the nursery."

Josh nodded, smiling, staring into Maya's eyes.

"What?" Maya asked, curiously. She could see there was something in his eyes. Like he was waiting for her to ask him a question but she shrugged it off and gave him a small smile. She knew today he went to the batting cages with Hunter but she was taking Riley's advice and staying out of it. If he wanted her support he would tell her.

Josh shook his head, "Nothing. I love you."

"I love you too."

"Surprised to see you here."

Riley looked over shoulder also surprised to see the blonde grab the bar stool next to her. "I can say the same about you. Where's Sophie?" she asked, looking around the bar.

"At home."

Riley raised an eyebrow, surprised by his answer and the tone in his voice. "Bad night?"

Lucas sighed, "You could say that," he answered before giving the bartender his order.

Riley nodded, "I know the feeling."

It was Lucas's turn to nod, "Yeah, where's Marcello?"

"At a hotel."

Lucas frowned, "I thought you guys were staying with Maya."

"We were. Well I still am."

Lucas caught on, "Oh."

"Yea, we went out for dinner to talk about how I've been feeling since being home and how I feel things are changing and let's just say he is staying at a hotel until his flight back to Italy and I'm going to be job hunting and looking for a place of my own," Riley revealed as she swirled her straw in her drink.

"I'm sorry," Lucas told her honestly, knowing break ups were hard.

"Its okay. I can honestly say I'm not as sad as I thought I would be which makes me know this is the right decision."

Lucas nodded.

"Mind me asking what is going on with you and Sophie?"

Lucas let out a little chuckled, knowing Riley would be able to read him. "Like you I feel things are changing."

Riley raised an eyebrow and turned in her stool to face him. "What do you mean?"

Lucas took in a deep breath, "Ever since Sophie moved here and saw Josh she has pushed me out of her and Hunter's life. The things we use to do together with Hunter she now wants to do with Josh. Only Josh. The two of us use to take Hunter all the time to the hitting cages or to the park to practice and now she tells me I can't go because she wants Josh to come so him and Hunter can spend time together. I've been replaced...by Josh again. I just feel it's a matter of time before I lose her."

Riley's heart sunk for Lucas, "Lucas, I'm going to tell you something I think you need to hear. If you think you are going to lose Sophie it isn't going to be to Josh. She is not going to be able to replace you with Josh. Josh is head over heels in love with Maya. I can promise you he doesn't look at Sophie like that and would never do anything like that to Maya."

Lucas slowly nodded as the bartender laid his drink in front of him. He picked his drink up lookin back over at Riley, "You remember what happened the last time we drank together and got drunk together?"

Riley looked up and stared into Lucas's eyes and felt something she hasn't felt in a long time. She pressed her lips together before finishing off her drink.
