Chapter Eight
Maya stopped folding hers and Josh's laundry, and her hand instantly going to her stomach. She smiled feeling the little kicks that were becoming stronger and stronger. She was almost positive Josh would be able to feel it soon. She smiled, looking up as her husband came out of the bathroom, fresh from a shower dressed in only a towel. She watched him walk around their room, gathering his things.
"You know your free to touch."
Maya blushed, knowing he caught her staring at him, "Get dress."
Josh smirked, "Only if you are sure you don't want to touch," he offer himself, holding his arms out. "I'm fine with being late."
She playfully rolled her eyes. "I'm sure," she told him, throwing a pair of his socks at him. Josh caught them, smiling, before tossing them on the bed by her. She picked the socks back up, smiling as she felt the baby again and went to tell Josh but stopped when he began speaking.
"So, I was thinking," Josh began, nervously, turning his back to his wife as he looked through his drawers and she picked up one of his shirts to fold. "I wanted to talk to Sophie about Hunter starting to spend a weekend a month over our house once we tell him the truth and we could get the room next to our room ready for him so that way he won't be scared and we will be in the room right next to him."
Maya finished folding Josh's shirt and looked up at her husband, frowning, as he nervously went through his drawers looking for something to wear. She could tell he was afraid of her reaction but it didn't stop her from shaking her head not being able to take anymore. She looked the other way when Josh chose to go and do things for Sophie and Hunter or spend time with them when she was left alone but she refused to give in to this. She was sick of feeling this way and feeling alone. That room was her baby's room. "No, Josh. We agreed that room is going to be the nursery. We talked about it when we bought this house and when we were looking at baby things."
"Yeah but the baby isn't here yet and Hunter is."
Maya clenched her jaw. "So when the baby comes we put Hunter in the other room? What sense does that make? He'll only be in the room for a few months. If that."
"I don't know why you are making a big deal out of this? The baby is going to sleep in our room the first few months and it isn't going to know it's not in the room next to us-"
"But I'll know!" Maya yelled, cutting him off. "And the further the baby is from me the more likely I'm not going to hear it cry."
"That's why there is a baby monitor."
Maya shook her head, as she reminded herself to stay calm. Her hand rested on her stomach as she glared over in her husband's direction. "You know what Josh do whatever the hell you want. I'll put a bed into the nursery so I can sleep by MY baby," she snapped throwing the rest of the laundry down and rushing out of their bedroom.
Josh frowned, following his wife out of the room as he tighten his towel around his waist. "What does that mean?"
"Exactly what I said."
"I don't understand-"
"That's right Josh you don't understand because you have no clue how I feel!" Maya yelled.
"Then tell me Maya!" Josh shouted back. "Tell me how you feel!"
Maya glared at her husband as she felt her tears start to come down her cheeks. "I feel like it's me and my baby and just me and my baby," she began, softly, making Josh's heart drop and his eyes soften. It wasn't just her baby. The baby was his too. "I feel alone. I feel like I'm the only one in this pregnancy. I feel like I can't enjoy my pregnancy when I should be taking in every single moment because I won't ever get to experience this for the first time again. I feel stressed out. I feel like I have to stand here and be quiet because you have this new family and I have to just welcome them in and I have no say about anything while my heart just keeps getting stomp on and it's not fair! I'm stressed out when I should be excited and happy. I want to be happy and excited about having a baby. I want to be excited to share this journey and welcome this baby into the world but I can't and I'm sick of it."
Josh closed his eyes. "I'm sorry," he apologized, walking over to his wife and taking her hands into his. He bend down so he could look her in the eyes. "I'm so sorry I'm making you feel this way. You have to know I love you and I love our baby. It's not just you in this pregnancy and I promise to make it up to you. Both of you."
Maya smiled, and tilted her head to press a quick kiss on Josh's mouth. She stay staring into Josh's eyes. "We need to talk about Sophie and Hunter and where we go from here. Josh, we have to get on the same page because I feel like I'm on a different one."
Josh swallowed, nodding.
"I want you to get a paternity test."
Josh went to reply but stopped when he noticed Maya wasn't finished.
"I need it for my peace of mind. We need it so we can figure out what to do next when it comes to Hunter."
Josh nodded.
"I know your doing whatever Sophie wants to not rock the boat but we can't just come to a standstill and let her control everything."
"Yea," Josh agreed. "I don't want to push it just yet."
Maya nodded, "I know but we have to. You are bonding with that little boy and we aren't even sure if he is really yours. I know Sophie says he is and I know you have that feeling in your gut he is so why not get it in proof? We need to schedule a date and get one and then go from there."
Josh took in a deep breath and letting it out before nodding, "You're right. I'll talk to Sophie about it."
Maya smiled before leaning up and kissing her husband.
"I love you so much," Josh murmured against Maya's lips.
"I love you too."
"You know I'm still only in a towel and you are way too dressed."
"Oh my god," Maya said, gently pushing Josh away but allowing him to lead her back to their bedroom.

"I've been proud to be your coach this year," Josh told his players as they stood along the gate after practice. "Let's end this season on a good note and enjoy our last week together. I'll see you guys at our second to last practice."
Josh smiled, saying his goodbye to his players and a couple of the parents before heading to gather up his bag.
"I noticed you were running a little late today."
Josh looked over his shoulder at Sophie. "Yeah, I was busy and loss track of time," he told her, not giving her the real reason to why he was late. He turned to look at her, praying this discussion would go good. He knew right now wasn't the best timing but he didn't want to put it off. "I actually needed to speak to you. I know that we are getting close to the end of the summer and we need to decide when we are going to tell Hunter the truth."
Sophie nodded. "Okay, but we don't want to put too much on him. He is starting a new school."
Josh nodded. "But he has to know soon. We can't keep this from him and I was thinking we should get a paternity test and come up with an agreement about when Hunter can stay over at my place."
Sophie frowned, staring at Josh. "What's going on? What's bringing all of this on?"
Josh shook his head, "Bringing what on?"
"All of this. It's Maya isn't it?"
"What?"
"Josh, come on. Maya is pushing this, isn't she?"
"Look keep Maya out of this. This is about me, you and Hunter."
Sophie sighed, "I don't know how I feel about Hunter spending a night over your place with Maya there."
Josh narrowed his eyes in, crossing his arms, "What's that suppose to mean?"
"It means I don't want my son around Maya."
"Maya's my wife. We are a package deal just like you and Lucas."
"What are you saying? You don't want Lucas around Hunter? Fine. that can be arranged."
Josh scrunched his face up, "What?" he asked, confused, not believing what was coming out of Sophie's mouth.
"If you don't want Lucas around Hunter just say it."
"You're willing to not let Lucas around Hunter if I say so?" Josh asked, not convinced.
"Yes."
Josh raised his eyebrows, before shaking his head, "Well I'm not willing to make that deal when it comes to Maya."
"Then we got a problem."
The two came to a standstill, glaring at each other.
"Mom, are you ready?"
The two looked over at the small boy running up to his mother.
"Yeah, buddy," Sophie smiled down at her son before looking back up at Josh. "Say bye to your coach," she continued, staring Josh in the eyes.
"Bye Coach Matthews."
Josh swallowed, "Bye Hunter."
"Grab your stuff buddy," Sophie instructed to her son before looking back over Josh. "My son comes first for me and he needs to be the same for you," she told Josh before walking away.
Josh watched the two leave before taking in a deep breath, wondering if he should have kept his mouth shut and not pushed just yet.

Maya smiled watching her best friend bounce with only what she could assume was excitement. Riley's boyfriend was finally making his appearance and meeting everyone for the first time. Maya and Josh joined her parents along with her in-laws who arrived back in town late last night at her best friend's parents' or also known as her brother and sister-in-law's home for the big event.
"He should be getting here soon. His plane is about to land then he will be on his way here," Riley informed everyone as she paced her parent's kitchen. "You guys are going to love him."
"I'm sure we will," Topanga reassured her daughter, giving her a small smile as she place a big bowl of salad on the table.
"Are you sure you don't want to pick him up from the airport?" Amy asked, from her spot at the kitchen island as she seasoned the meats to be grilled.
Riley shook her head, smiling. "No. He wanted to meet me here."
Maya raised an eyebrow, surprised her best friend wouldn't want at least a small private reunion alone before introducing him to the family.
"So, do we think he is the one?"
Maya glanced over at her best friend to see her reaction.
"Grandma!"
Maya chuckled knowing her best friend was beyond embarrassed by the blush on her cheeks.
"What are the chances Cory runs him off?" Josh whispered, as he came behind Maya pulling her to him and resting his chin on her shoulder.
"Stop," Maya scolded through her teeth, pulling away from him and went to playfully hit her husband but he caught her hand pulling her back to him. "You never did tell me how your conversation with Sophie went."
Josh took in a deep breath. "We'll talk about it later tonight."
Maya stared into her husband's eyes and knew it didn't go well. He leaned down kissing her forehead before placing a quick kiss on her lips reassuring her everything was going to be okay. He gave her a smile before he took a seat next to his father on the couch.
"Maya?"
Maya looked over to see her mother nervously standing not far from her.
"Can we speak alone for a moment?"
Maya glanced over at her husband who gave her an encouraging smile before going back to pay attention to his father before she gave her mom a small nod. The two walked in the backyard, shutting the side glass door behind them.
The two were quiet, waiting for the other one to begin. Katy kept her eyes on her daughter as Maya stared at what everyone was doing inside.
"Maya," Katy began, grabbing Maya's attention. "I hate what happened the last time you were over and I hate you are avoiding us and I feel I can't come over and hug you and talk to you and all of this tension."
Maya sighed, shaking her head as she prayed she wouldn't start crying. She didn't want to cause a scene or get people asking questions. "How did you expect me to react or feel?" she asked. "It hurt to hear you and Shawn talk about my marriage like that. My husband like that. It is hard enough right now without my parents talking bad about my marriage and my husband when I need your support now more than ever. It's been really difficult but I love Josh. He is my husband. I'm standing by him no matter what so if you don't support us then just stay away. That is your option. There is no in between. You either support me and my husband or you stay away from us because I don't need your negativity right now."
Katy nodded. "Just answer this."
Maya raised her eyebrow at her mother for her to continue.
"If you weren't pregnant would you be this hellbent on staying by Josh's side."
Maya frowned, folding her arms as she glared at her mom, "You know I would be and what kind of question is that?"
"The kind you could be asking your little one in the future."
Maya swallowed. She prayed her baby never has to go through anything like this.
"How is the little one?" Katy asked, going to touch Maya's stomach.
Maya stepped back, pushing her mother's hand away before glancing in the direction of everyone. "Stop. We haven't told everyone yet."
"I know," Katy sighed, "Shawn still doesn't know."
Maya nodded, pressing her lips together, thankful her mother kept her secret.
"When are you going to tell everyone?"
Maya shrugged, "I don't know."
Katy frowned, staring at her daughter. "Maya, are you happy you're pregnant?"
"Yes," Maya breathed out, resting a hand on her stomach, shocked by her mom's question. "How could you ask me that? Of course, I'm happy. I'm so happy to welcome this baby into the world. When I found out I was pregnant it was one of the happiest days of my life."
Katy gave her daughter a small smile. "Then why aren't you telling people?"
Maya shrugged again. "I don't know. I don't feel ready for everyone to know and all the questions and looks that come with it. Josh and this Hunter situation is just a lot right now."
"You know you're not going to be able to hide it much longer. You have to be close to half way now."
"I know," Maya nodded. "I know some people are already suspicious you should have seen Topanga's face when I turned down Nutella but we aren't ready just yet but we will tell everyone soon."
Katy nodded, before the two got quiet again. "I love you Maya. I just want us to be okay."
"Me too and I love you too, Mom," she told her back before she pulled her mom into a hug and the two headed back inside.
Josh watches his wife walk in from her talk with her mother and open his arms for her to walk into. Maya smiles and instantly lets him wrap her up in his arms. The two separated at the sound of the doorbell. Maya raised an eyebrow at Josh as the two watch Riley opened the door to two people they weren't expecting to see. "What is Sophie and Lucas doing here?"
Josh swallowed, shaking his head and keeping an arm around Maya. "I don't know."
"I hope you guys don't mind but I invited Sophie and Lucas so they could meet my boyfriend too."
Maya forced her fake smile when she felt them glance in her direction.
"Of course not."
Maya couldn't help but noticed that she wasn't the only one using something fake at the sound of her mother-in-law's voice.
"Grab your friends some drinks, Riley," Amy instructed her granddaughter as she picked up the tray of meat. "And we are going to get dinner going so it is ready for your boyfriend," she told everyone before going outside.
Maya bit her lip at Amy referring to Sophie and Lucas as Riley's friends and she could tell it made Sophie feel some type of way. She swallowed before looking up at her husband. "Tonight should be interesting."
Josh nodded, holding her close and pressing a kiss on her forehead.
XOXOJOSHAYAXOXO
"He's here."
Riley looked back as everyone was seated, and the dinner was spread out on the table.
Maya smiled at how excited Riley was as everyone watched Riley open the door with a huge smile on her face and everyone's eyes went wide. They stared at the mid-age man who was dark complexed, with darker hair and a little gray above the ears on both sides but looked to be a little younger than both her and Riley's parents. Everyone remained quiet just staring at the two before Cory finally nervously broke the silence.
"Riley, you didn't tell us his father was coming with him."
Riley frowned, as she took the older man's hand into hers and led him further into her parents' home. "He didn't," she smiled, stealing a look at the man next to her before looking back at the group. "This is Marcello, my boyfriend."
Maya swallowed, and glanced around the room as everyone remained quiet and shocked. She reached over closing Cory's mouth and could feel the uncomfortableness and tension building in the room with each second as everyone stared over at Riley and her boyfriend. Maya could tell her best friend was hating the welcome he was receiving and wanted the attention off of them, but what she didn't expect was what came out of her best friend's mouth next as Riley pointed over at her.
"Maya's pregnant."
Maya's eyes went wide as her stomach dropped and everyone gasped at her best friend's confession. She felt Josh give her hand a squeeze as everyone's eyes went from Riley and her boyfriend onto her.
"What?" Amy said, covering her mouth as she stood up, shocked.
Maya's mouth dropped opened as nothing came out. She glanced around the room again at everyone's shocked faces on her and she couldn't help but noticed the unhappy faces on Shawn and Sophie before they both put on neutral faces.
"We are," Josh confirmed, squeezing Maya's hand again. "This is not the way we wanted everyone to find out," he continued, glaring over in Riley's direction causing Riley to wince. "But Maya and I are having a baby."
"Congratulations sweetie," Amy instantly said, walking over and hugging Maya. "Another grandbaby to love," she smiled, wiping away her tears as she touched Maya's belly before pulling her son in for a hug.
"I knew it," Topanga smiled, and pulling Maya into a hug once Amy was done. "Your boobs are getting big and you turned down Nutella."
Maya laughed, knowing it was true and she never turned down Nutella until this pregnancy. One of her favorite foods her baby somehow wasn't liking.
Maya let out a breath as it seem almost everyone was happy about the new addition joining the family. She looked over to where Shawn was sitting and he force a smile to where Sophie was standing and could tell Sophie was stun by the news. Lucas managed to keep her secret. She watched Sophie compose herself before looking in her direction.
Maya couldn't help but get the sinking feeling in her stomach they were headed for trouble.
