We either run or we attack. There's a scientific term for this. Fight...or flight. It's instinct. We can't control it. Or can we?"

Denny continued to flatline.

Izzie stood in Denny's room with the cut LVAD wire in her hand. "We need to call a code", George said. "I can't feel a pulse". "Stop, I have a plan", she said. "Please tell me the plan involves him regaining a pulse", Holly said.

"If we call a code, Denny will be rushed to surgery and they'll replace his LVAD. Then he'll stabilize and he won't get the heart. Denny will die waiting for another heart"

"This is crazy", George said. "And incredibly illegal", Holly added. "George, I will break your bones if you call a code", Izzie said. "You can both choose between one of two options. Leave or help me".

While Izzie was ventilating Denny, Meredith and Lucy entered the room. "What are you guys doing here?" Holly asked from where she was sitting in the corner rocking back and forth. "We were paged 911 by George", Lucy said. "We need help", George said. Cristina came in. "What the hell is going on?" she asked. "I was just about to ask the same thing", Lucy said. "Izzie cut Denny's LVAD wire and now we're all screwed", Holly said. "I have a plan!" Izzie yelled. "Which is?" Lucy questioned. Izzie explained her plan. "Everything will be fine once Burke gets here", Izzie said. "Burke got shot,'' Cristina said. Everyone stared at her, wide eyed. "What is this day?!" Lucy said.

"Burke's not coming?! Oh my god!" Izzie said, freaking out. "Denny's going to die. I killed him!" "We can't call anyone because Izzie will get kicked out of the program", Meredith said. "This is insane! I'm leaving", Lucy said. "Me too, Burke could die", Cristina said. "This is Izzie's fault, not ours". George nodded in agreement from the corner where he was comforting a shaken Holly. "I was just doing what I thought was best", Izzie reasoned. "Shut up!" Meredith yelled. "No one is leaving and no one is dying". Lucy groaned. "Thank you", Denny said. "I think we should listen to Meredith, because it seems like she has a plan". They all looked at Meredith. "I need a minute", she said defensively.

"We have to confirm Denny's condition ourselves", Meredith said. "We can get the blood work and do an echo. No one has to know what Izzie did. Cristina has done an echo on her own. Burke taught her". "I refuse to be involved", Cristina protested. "Me neither", Lucy added. "What if it were Alex? What if Alex was lying on this bed", Izzie said.

"Alex isn't a patient, Iz"

"Yeah, but he's a co-worker and that's technically still a little inappropriate. And two of you fell in love with attendings"

"You can't choose who you fall in love with", Meredith said. George nodded in agreement while looking at Holly who had her head on his shoulder.

Meredith was on the phone with Alex. "Burke has been shot, we have to do the tests ourselves", she explained. "We only have a couple of minutes left and Hahn won't wait", Alex said.

"Stall her"

"I refuse to get involved in this. I don't care if Denny gets the heart"

"Do it for Izzie"

"No"

Lucy grabbed the phone off of Meredith. "Alex, do it for me, please", Lucy said.

"They have you involved in this, too?!"

"Alex, please"

"I'm not guaranteeing anything"

"We should start dopamine and dobutamine drips", Lucy decided. "I feel like my chest is running away", Denny said. Meredith placed an oxygen mask on him. "He's in SVT", Lucy said. "Izzie, stop pumping", Cristina told her. "I'm trying to listen to his heart". "I'm looking for a medicine", Meredith said, searching a cabinet. "I'll know it when I see it". "You're looking for the one that stops the heart", George said. "It only stops the heart for 6 seconds", Izzie explained to Denny. "It's adenosine", Holly said from the corner with her eyes closed. George shot her a concerned look. "Denny's heart is speeding up", Cristina said. "He can't take this much longer", Izzie yelled. "Found it!" Meredith exclaimed. "Lift Denny's arm while you're administering it", Holly said, her eyes still closed. "That's what I've seen the nurse do". "I'm gonna die", Denny said, panicking now. "That's just the medicine", Izzie said. The monitor showed a flatline for a couple of seconds. Then there was a heartbeat again. Denny wheezed. Bailey appeared in the doorway. "You better have a good explanation for this", she said.

"Everyone, step away from the patient", Bailey ordered. Everyone stepped away except for Izzie who continued to pump the heart. Holly got up from her corner and stood with the other interns. Bailey noticed the cut LVAD wire. "Olivia, take over for Izzie", she told the nurse. "Izzie needs to leave the room". "No", Izzie yelled. "No, she won't".

"Olivia, stay with Izzie and help her when she'll let you"

Everyone else stepped outside of the room to be lectured by Bailey. "Where was your rational thought and cognitive thinking?" Bailey asked them. "No one in their sane mind would have helped Izzie. You are not allowed to speak. I don't want to testify against you in court. Yang, go to Burke, he's asking for you". Cristina left. "Did you run labs?" Bailey asked. "Yes", Meredith answered.

"O'Malley, Kepner, go get the results without talking to anyone. Grey, Shepherd, come with me"

George, Holly, Cristina, Lucy, Izzie and Meredith sat under the OR board. "We're being treated like children", George said. "We acted like children", Lucy retorted. "What we did was in need of a time out", Meredith said. "We could get kicked out of the program", Cristina said. "If I get kicked out, my parents will make me become a lawyer or work at the multiplex", Holly sighed. "You guys won't get kicked out of the program", Izzie said. "I did this". Richard approached them. "Dr Yang, Dr Burke is asking for you", he said. "I'm in a time out", Cristina replied.

"That's over"

She got up and left with him. "Did he really ask me to marry him?" Izzie asked. "Yes, he did", Lucy reassured. She got up. "I'm gonna go check on him", she said before leaving.
