Chapter Twenty-Five

"In life we are taught that there are seven deadly sins. We all know the big ones...gluttony, pride, lust. But the sin you don't hear much about is anger. Maybe because we think anger is not that dangerous, that you can control it. My point is, maybe we don't give anger enough credit. Maybe it can be a lot more dangerous than we think. After all, when it comes to destructive behaviour, it did make the top seven. So what makes anger different from the six deadly sins? It's pretty simple really, you give into a sin like envy or pride and you only hurt yourself. Try lust or coveting and you'll only hurt yourself and probably one or two others. But anger, anger is the worst...the mother of all sins... Not only can anger drive you over the edge, when it does you can take an awful lot of people with you"

"let me give my love to you. let me take your hand"

Derek and Burke were drinking and playing darts at the bar. Meredith, Cristina, Lucy and Izzie were sitting at the bar observing them. "I think Burke is picturing my face", Cristina said. It was Derek's turn. He looked at Meredith angrily before throwing the dart. "He's picturing you", Izzie said to Meredith. "I wish I was throwing darts at his face right now", Lucy said, sipping her drink. "He called me a whore", Meredith said. "He lost the right to picture me". "Burke has no right to be mad at me for falling asleep during sex", Cristina said. Alex came up behind Lucy and put his arm around her and kissed her cheek. "Hey", he said. "Hey", she smiled. "We don't socialise with gynecologists", Izzie said snarkily. Alex left. "Shut the fuck up, Iz", Lucy snapped. George sat down. "Hey George!" Izzie greeted enthusiastically. Callie followed him and sat down and Izzie was silent. Lucy glared at Izzie and smiled at Callie. George ordered drinks.

Callie, Lucy and Meredith were looking at Will's leg. "What are you thinking, Shepherd?" Callie asked Lucy. "His tibia probably got hit", Lucy answered.

"Good job. Okay, rule out other injuries and take him up to radiology"

Meredith and Lucy approached Callie. "All of your patients are done", Meredith said. "Can I scrub in?" Lucy asked. "The board is backed up", Callie said. "Ortho always gets shoved to the back because the other specialties think they're more important". "Do you know anything about bone cancer in dogs?" Meredith asked. "I just wanted to know the success rate of curing an osteosarcoma in a canine leg".

"We have a human patient who might lose his leg and you're worried about the dog you share with McDreamy? Unbelievable!"

Meredith, Cristina and Lucy sat and talked. "I think it's controlling and petulant that Burke withholds surgery when I'm a bad girlfriend", Cristina said. "It is", Lucy agreed. "I can't believe Derek wants to put Doc down", Meredith said.

"I can't believe Derek exists"

Izzie approached them. "I'm dumping Burke", Cristina decided. "I lied to Burke", Izzie said. "I can't think straight. I don't know what to do. I need Denny to get this heart".

"That won't happen because Denny's doing well and someone's ahead on the list"

"That's right"

She walked off with a crash cart. "That can't be good", Lucy said with wide eyes.

"So, what's the situation with you and Holly?" Callie asked George. "What do you mean?" he replied.

"You're obviously still hung up on her and she is too, so what's stopping you?"

"I hurt her, really bad when I slept with Meredith"

"You love her, right?"

He stayed silent.

"You love her, don't you?"

"Yeah. Yeah, I do"

"Then don't stop fighting for her unless you're sure she doesn't feel the same way"

"Thank you, Callie"

Meredith, Cristina, Lucy and Holly stood at the nurse's station going over charts when they heard Addison and Derek fighting. "Addison, show some sensitivity", Derek said. "They just lost their daughter and they don't want to let her go".

"What they're doing is not about love, Derek. It's like you. How you pretend to love me but really you're just filling some need you have to be a good guy"

"This is not the time to talk about this"

"That's it?! You're just gonna walk away? That's all I get?! You're not gonna yell at me, call me names or I don't know, ignore me in an elevator?"

"What do you want from me, Addison?"

"I want you to care. I sleep with your best friend and you walk away. He comes here and rubs it in your face and still, you get a good night's sleep. What do I have to do? Maybe, I should go on a date with a vet because that's something that seems to send you into a blind rage. Oh wait, I can't do that either because I'm not Meredith Grey!"

They looked down to see everyone had heard their argument. Derek walked away. Lucy briskly walked up the stairs to Addison. "Addie", Lucy said, steadying her with her shoulders. "Addie, come on. Not here, okay?" She led her to a supply closet and sat her down.

She began to cry and Lucy hugged her and rubbed her back. "You're not in the wrong here, okay?" Lucy said. "You don't deserve this, do you hear me? You're Addison motherfreaking Montgomery and you do not get to take his bullshit. I won't let you, because I know that this is not you. What happened? You're a strong, powerful woman. Don't let him make you feel small. You take the reins and never let him have them ever again. I love you, okay? I love you"

George and Holly were in Kendra's room. "Have you decided about the baby?" Holly asked. "We haven't decided anything", Kendra's father said. "I have a couple of families so I know a lot about family", George said, staring at Holly. "You don't necessarily like what they do, but you stick by them. Right now, my friend's boyfriend is dying. I saw that Kendra's a donor, meaning she could save a dozen other lives. From what I've heard about Kendra, I think she would save those people if she had the chance. I suggest you stick by her one last time".

Holly was in the locker room when George entered. They stared at each other for a second. George looked like he was about to say something when Izzie burst into the locker room. "Guys, I need your help", she said.

They entered Denny's room. "Denny, I might have to shock you a few times", Izzie told him. "Can you explain it again?" Denny asked.

"The LVAD is inserted into your abdomen and connected to your heart. The one cord is connected to the power source, the other one is connected to the pump that pumps your heart. I have the crash cart, the defibrillator, the Ambu bag and saline".

"Izzie, what are you gonna do?" George asked. "I feel like we should say stuff", Izzie said, ignoring George. "Kiss me", Denny said. She did so. "I don't mean to be intrusive, but we would like to know what's going on", Holly said, slightly scared. "One second", Izzie said. "Are you ready, Denny?" "As ready as I'll ever be", he replied. Izzie grabbed a pair of scissors. "Izzie, what are you doing?" Holly asked, her anxiety hitting the roof.

"There's gonna be some kind of glowy light you better try like hell to stay away from it", Izzie warned Denny, scissors still in hand. "I don't like where this is going?" Holly said, starting to have a panic attack. Noticing this, George went over and held her hands. "Make sure nobody comes through that door", Izzie said to George. "Izzie, what the hell are you doing?" George asked her as he rubbed Holly's back soothingly.

"I'm stopping his heart"

"What?!" Holly practically yelled. Izzie placed the scissors on the cord.

Izzie took a deep breath. Holly was breathless

Izzie looked into Denny's eyes. Holly and George shared worried looks.

"Denny, it's ok because Burke will be here any minute", Izzie reassured. "Izzie, please don't", Holly pleaded. Izzie cut the wire and Denny's monitor flatlined.
