She couldn't move, as if her feet were glued to the pavement. She didn't understand why her heart ached so much when it was her own decision to turn him down. Not once, but thrice. She had made his life a living hell by not letting him date anyone else. She wanted him to be with her all the time, but she didn't want a tag on their relationship.
And now he was leaving. Maybe not forever, but definitely for a long, long time. She was sad, but she couldn't let it show.
He had waited only to be let down.
There was a sinking feeling inside her. If she let him go now, there was no turning back.
If he asked her out again, she would say yes.
Heck, if she asked him out right now, he would stay. She knew. And that's why she didn't say a word.
He waited for a minute or so, but when he didn't get any response from her, he waved a last goodbye. She clenched her fists by her side and sucked up as much air in her lungs as she could. She had to let him go. His life was going to be totally different now. Girls and boys, thousands of people who would love him much more than she could would surround him.
There was nothing else to do. She chose to become the person who broke his heart. She became the villain of his story.
If he ever comes back to her, she would gladly open her arms. If...
"Don't look back and just go." She said, "Don't cling to me like a parasite." And fought back the tears threatening to fall.
Her words stung. She could see it in his eyes. He nodded slightly, sat in the car's backseat, and never looked back.
Just like how she had instructed him.
She knew she would see him soon, everywhere. After all, he would be a celebrity, and she was only a fan.
"Goodbye, Jimmie."
