03 the ama's.
1989
I stared out the car window and pressed my lips together, jamming to a random song on the radio. I tried not to think of the red carpet I had to walk within half an hour.
"We're here, miss!" the driver said. "Yes." I sighed deeply and rubbed my temples. "Hey...you don't have to be nervous," Jenna, my manager, said. I turned around. "But I am," I said while widening my eyes. She giggled.
"It's just a red carpet and a stupid award show!" she nodded her head. "And, it's my first. My first time meeting all these famous artists." I sighed. "Luckily you'll be on my side," I said, smiling. Jenna frowned.
"Oh, about that. You know, they called me and I need to arrange some things first. Jake will walk with you." My eyes widened. "What? So you're saying you're not coming with me?" I asked her while taking her hand. "I'll be inside, waiting for you!" she told me. "You're such a-" she didn't listen and opened the door. "Good luck babe," she whispered and stepped out. "Oh, screw you!"
I pointed my middle finger against the closed car door. I closed my eyes. She literally had no idea of how nervous I was. I took a bottle champagne out the car door and sipped it. I knew Jenna wasn't going to be with me the whole evening. She had famous celebrity friends and probably wanted to talk to them instead of me, who she saw everyday. I'd probably sit on my own the whole evening, sipping from a bad wine.
"Whatever," I mumbled and straightened my dress.
"Miss Y/L/N? Are you coming with me?" I looked up and Jake smiled. "Jenna may not be here but I'll be. Don't worry, miss, just take my hand and follow me." He opened the door and I stepped out. Immediately a thousand lights blinded my eyes and people shouted my name, but I smiled. I placed my hand in his. "Thanks," I whispered. I waved at the fans and they screamed.
"Let's go," Jake said and I followed. "Y/N, are you excited about the your six nominations?" someone asked. "Really!" I answered honestly. I walked further down the carpet.
"Oh, look who we have here," Jake said in my ear. "Who?" "Six o'clock," Jake said, using our code words. I turned around and my eyes widened when I saw the king of pop stepping out of his huge car. He looked...- so good. I stared at him for a good minute before Jake tapped my shoulder. "You're staring, miss." I shook my hand. "I'm sorry," I whispered.
Woah, what a nice red carpet walk, I thought sarcastically.
"Jake, take me inside, as soon as possible!" I demanded him. I waved at the fans and within a few minutes I was in the huge building. It smelled like wine, perfume and new clothes. Everwhere I looked were celebrities, waiters and camera men.
"It's so huge," I mumbled while Jake took me to my said. I sat down on the chair and already was uncomfortable. "I have to leave, unfortunately," Jake said and left. I sighed.
"Miss? Do you want some wine?" I looked up from my lap and saw a waiter. He was holding a plate with two wine bottles and some glasses. "Erm, yeah, of course," I said. "Do you want the red or the white wine?" he asked while smiling kindly. I raised one of my brows. "It depends...which one would you choose?" I asked him teasingly.
"The red. The white one is horrendous," I suddenly heard a soft voice saying. I turned around and my eyes widened. "Hey," Michael freaking Jackson said. My mouth opened and I awkwardly smiled.
"H-hey," I said shakily. I giggled. I still looked at him and forgot about the wine. "Well, which one are you gonna choose?" he asked, grinning with his pearly white teeth and my heart bumped a little faster.
"What?" I asked him sheepishly. "The wine." He nodded towards the waiter. I shook up. "Oh! The wine! So...which one was the dirty one?" I asked him. Michael grinned and looked away. "The white. But; if you like cheap, pee-like wine, I suggest you take the white wine," he said, biting his lip. I swallowed. "I think I pass," I said softly, without looking at the waiter. "Of course Madame. If you change your mind, there's a bar." The waiter finally left.
I smiled at Michael and realized I was blushing the whole time. "I'm sorry," Michael suddenly said. I raised an eyebrow. "About what?" I asked him. "I haven't introduced myself properly," he said grinning and he took my hand in his. I blushed. "I'm Michael Jackson. Nice to meet you," he introduced himself. I smiled. "Nice to meet you, too, I'm Y/N Y/L/N," I told him. "It suits you," Michael said, still holding my hand. "What?" I asked, confused. "Your dress," he explained and immediately blushed.
I laughed and looked at my dress. It was silver and had an open back. It was basically my dream dress.
"I was kidding. I meant, your name. It suits you. Not that your dress doesn't suit you. It's beautiful, really. But I just-well, you know what I mean," he rambled nervously. I laughed. "Well, that's nice, thank you. You don't look bad yourself," I told him and looked him up and down.
He was wearing a black suit and a red blouse. He looked extremely, extremely good. "Thanks," he said and I realized we were still holding hands. "Yes," I said and letted go of his hand, even though I didn't want to. Michael smiled and blushed, which looked cute.
"Oh, by the way, I'm sitting next to you," he said, pointing towards his name on the chair. "I'm glad. I mean, you're the only one I talked to this evening. My manager Jenna isn't here with me, well she is, but she's probably talking to her celebrity friends-"
"Y/N!" Jenna shouted and excitedly walked towards me. I sighed. I didn't want her to be with us-with me. "Oh! I see you already met Michael!" she said, shaking his hand. "Do I know you?" Michael said, sounding sassy. "Erm-no. Anyways, Y/N, I see there's no room for me anymore, so I'll just go sit somewhere else. Is that okay with you?" "Yeah, of course!" I said, trying not to sound too exciting. She left and I looked at Michael.
"Is she...nice?" he asked. I rolled me eyes. "She can be. If she wants to. She acts like she owns me. But, she can be nice." Michael nodded and we sat down.
"And now, the nominations for the best female American artist!" the host shouted through the microphone. I folded my hands and I took a shaky breath.
It was the last categorie I was nominated for. All the other ones were won by someone else. Since this was the last one, I was extra nervous. I smiled when my name was mentioned and my biggest hit song from my first album started playing. I nodded proudly.
"Michael!" I suddenly said. Michael looked up with his eyebrows raised. "What's up?" he asked with some concern in his voice. "What do I need to do when I win?" I whisper-screamed. "I don't have someone to hug or something!"
Michael laughed. "Well, you can hug me, if you want to." I blushed. "Are you serious?" I asked him while looking down at my hands. "Yeah! Just pretend we know each other," he suggested, giggling.
The host opened the envelope and I inhaled deeply. "And the winner is...Y/N!" she shouted. I laughed suprised. I was so happy! "Oh my Gosh!" I turned around and Michael smiled. I quickly gave him a hug. "Congratulations, love," he whispered and I thanked him.
I stood up and walked towards the stage. The host handed me the award and I kissed her cheek. The cheering stopped and I smiled nervously.
"There are so...many of you," I said quietly, looking at the huge audience. They laughed. My eyes met Michaels and I realized how handsome he was.
I thanked everybody who helped me, and quickly mentioned Jenna. I looked at Michael again and he mouthed: "Are you gonna thank me?" I laughed.
"I also wanna thank Michael, my erm... friend." Everyone screamed when I mentioned his name and I giggled. I quickly looked at him and my heart skipped a beat. I stared into his large, kind eyes and I blushed.
He was so attractive.
I got off the stage and walked to my seat again. "That went okay, didn't it?" Michael asked. His arm rested on the chair and he touched his lips, looking down at me. "It did," I mumbled.
"You're very nice to talk to," Michael said, after a few minutes. I blushed. "Well, thank you, that's nice," I shyly responded.
"I think we actually should be friends," he admitted and I nodded. "We totally should," I responded, giggling. He slowly licked his lips and looked me up and down. I swallowed and looked another way. I blushed and I knew he saw it. He didn't say anything and I suddenly felt his soft hand around mine. My eyes widened and I looked at him. He didn't look back, he just stared at the stage. I took a shaky breath and our fingers intertwined. No one noticed it, only Michael and I.
An hour later, the long evening was finally over, and I stood up. Michael watched me. It was difficult not to blush whenever he was around me, he could make me blush with just breathing around me. Michael stood up and cleared his throat, placing his hand on my shoulder. I smiled at him.
"I think, as a friend, I should give you a ride back to the hotel you're staying at," he said, grinning. I smiled surprised. He actually wanted to spend time driving to my hotel? Did he maybe want to...I blushed and shook off my thoughts.
"That's really kind of you, but you don't need to-" "I want to," he interrupted me and I instantly nodded. "Let's go then," he said, smirking as always. He placed his hands on my lower back, and I felt his fingers on my bare skin. He slowly rubbed it and I pretended not to notice it.
A few minutes, I stepped into his black car, and sat down. It was a huge limousine. Michael stepped in also and sat down next to me. I awkwardly smiled. I really didn't know what to say.
"Erm...don't you have to tell Jenna?" he asked and I shrugged. "She'll find out," I mumbled.
"Thank you, by the way," I suddenly said. Michael looked my way. "For what?" he asked softly. "For keeping me company this night-I mean, this evening," I paused, "I think I'd be all alone if you wasn't there. I mean, without you, I would be sitting next to Jenna and she only talks to her friends," I said, rolling my eyes. Michael placed his hands on my knee.
"I didn't mind. I didn't know a lot of people too, actually." He grinned and his hand was still on my knee. "R-really?" I answered, even though I barely listened to him. "Really." He squeezed my knee.
"Are you comfortable?" he suddenly asked and I looked at him. He looked at me with his large eyes and I couldn't help but smile. "Of course," I said and placed my hand atop of his. I yawned and I closed my eyes, leaning against Michael without noticing it. I heard his breathing and it calmed me down.
I suddenly realized I was in the weirdest situation possible. I came to this show because I got six nominations and I got home with Michael Jackson? Not that I minded, I liked it, actually.
"I think we are here," Michael softly said and I got up. "Yeah, this is it," I said. I couldn't help but feel a little sad. This meant I would have to say goodbye. I wanted to stay with him. I stepped out the car and Michael followed me.
"Bye," I said quietly. The only thing that broke the silence was the wind that blew trough the trees. I laid my hand on the doorknob and sighed.
"Wait." I turned around and saw Michael coming my way. I smiled. "Erm...I think, as a friend, I should have your phone number," he said, blushing. I nodded, and quickly wrote it on a paper.
He licked his lips and I stared into his eyes. "And I think, as a friend," he cleared his throat, "and maybe something more."
I laughed. "You should visit Neverland," he added, smiling and raising his eyebrows. I frowned. "Neverland?"
"Yeah. My home. You should visit it, it's very beautiful," he said, some pride in his voice. I smiled and nodded. "Okay."
"Okay," he said back. He swallowed and raised his finger. It gently caressed my cheek and I smiled softly. He came closer to me and placed his other hand around my neck.
And that was when I felt his soft lips on mine. It felt so sweet, so lovingly, and I almost melted away in his arms. I placed my hands around his neck as the kiss went deeper. All of a sudden, Michael leaned back.
"So you wanna come over at Neverland someday?" he breathed. I cocked my brows. "It depends," I said teasingly. "On what?"
"Which wine do you have?"
