Chapter 3: Flashing Lights
Hyrule City
When the three kids enter the throne room, their parents look happy.
King Rhoam is the first to speak.
"So, if we're all ready, we can head out then."
"Oh, I forgot my sword, I'll grab it real quick." Link's father is about to leave when he is stopped by the King's voice.
"You won't need it; there will be guards everywhere, and I think you deserve a break."
Patrick just nods, and then everyone starts leaving the castle.
Link thinks it's weird seeing his parents dressed so fancy. Usually, his dad wears the Royal Guard set, which is already fancy, but he's never seen him in something that makes him look somewhat like a king himself. The same goes for his mother; she looks very beautiful in her dress, similar to the queen but with different colors.
Link is sure that his mother wouldn't want to wear clothes like these. He's not sure why she would wear them now.
Link is snapped out of his thoughts when the noise around him gets louder and louder. They are almost in Hyrule City. He takes a look around and sees so many people, so many different outfits. Gorons, Zoras, Gerudo, and of course, Hylians. It's a new experience for him; he has never seen so many people in one place. In Hateno, everything is quiet, and there are rarely any other races. Just some traders from time to time; they are always nice.
Again, Link is woken up from his thoughts when Aryll shouts.
"Wooooooooww, this is so awesome. Look at this Link. Mooom, can we stay here forever? I want to live hereeee!!!"
Zelda's mom laughs.
"It is beautiful, isn't it? But think of your friends in Hateno, they would miss you, right? And think of your stuffed animals; they would forever want you to come back."
"You're right. We should stay in Hateno, but still, come here more often."
"We can come here more often, I'm sure. But for now, enjoy what we have right now."
Aryll nods and goes right back to looking at anything that glows and shines.
Link starts thinking again.
It is beautiful here, and after all, Mom and Dad both work here anyway, so why aren't we living here? It would make so much more sense. But Mom said to focus on all the beautiful things right now and here, so I shall do it.
Zelda notices Link's thoughts wandering off from time to time. Somehow she can imagine what he thinks. She isn't sure if she knows what he thinks, but she has some idea of what is happening in his head.
She decides to do something about it by thinking of something to do. She tries very hard, so hard that she sticks her tongue out a little bit.
Rhoam sees it and says to her.
"Zelda?" Zelda shakes out of her thoughts. The King laughs. "Everything alright? It seems that you are thinking about something."
"No father, I'm sorry."
"It's okay dear. Why don't you stop thinking so hard, because if you do, you might miss something amazing, something like this."
He points up to the sky, and everyone looks up.
Suddenly, you can see colorful explosions in the sky.
Red, green, yellow, blue, all colors explode in the dark night sky. And paint everything in their color. It's unlike anything the three kids have ever seen. The kids are in awe, their eyes wide open as they follow the trails of light in the sky.
Link's heart races with excitement. He feels a burst of joy, and his eyes sparkle with amazement. Aryll is jumping up and down, her face lit up with pure delight. Zelda's usually composed demeanor is replaced by sheer enthusiasm; she can't help but gasp at the breathtaking display.
Their parents, caught up in the moment, share glances and smiles. The fireworks reflect in the children's eyes, creating a kaleidoscope of wonder and joy. When the explosions cease, the sky painted with the afterglow, the kids look at each other with exhilaration.
As the parents begin exchanging kisses, the kids shout in unison, "Ewwwwwww."
Their parents laugh, and to shift the focus, they all look back at the sky. Unfortunately, the fireworks have ended, leaving the kids yearning for more.
Determined to continue the excitement, they start walking around. The festival is a sensory overload—vibrant stalls, enchanting lights, and the aroma of delicious food fill the air. People of all races and ages are gathered, creating a lively atmosphere.
The kids, drawn by the glow of various items, stop at stalls selling illuminated trinkets. Lights that change colors with every shake, creating a mesmerizing effect, captivate Link's attention. Aryll, fascinated by anything that sparkles, is enchanted by the glittering jewelry on display.
The aroma of diverse food wafts through the air, and Link is determined to try every delectable offering. He savors the flavors, each bite triggers a different kind of excitement. The kids, their senses overwhelmed, absorb the festival's energy like sponges.
As they maneuver through the bustling crowd, they reach an open space where people are dancing to lively music. The beats are infectious, and soon, the adults are encouraged to join. Hesitant at first, they give in to the festive spirit. Link, Aryll, and Zelda, unable to resist the lively atmosphere, start dancing with joy.
The crowd cheers, and the kids, lost in the rhythm, feel an indescribable euphoria. Zelda, surrounded by friends and family, forgets her usual constraints and dances freely. The festival becomes a magical moment, etching memories of laughter and joy in the children's hearts.
As they gradually wind down and head back to the castle, King Rhoam gives a small speech. Though Zelda doesn't pay much attention to the words, the sense of happiness lingers within her. She gazes around, taking in the sights of the festival that she'll cherish forever.
Link and Aryll, already heading towards their bedrooms, await Zelda's return from her father's speech.
Finally, she does, smiling as bright as the moon and skipping around the castle.
"Heyyy, how was the speech?" Link asks.
"What? Oh, the speech, I don't know. I forgot to pay attention; it was all so fancy and special. I wish it would always be like this."
"Yes, me too. We will visit you more often from now on, okay?"
"Yes, please do. I have to go to sleep now, or I won't wake up in time tomorrow."
"Okay, Princess." "Good night!" Link and Aryll say.
"Good night, until tomorrow."
All three go to bed, their minds still buzzing with the electrifying moments of the festival. Zelda, having witnessed the joy and excitement through the eyes of her newfound friends, falls asleep with a heart full of gratitude for the enchanting day.
