Thirty- Two

"I saw Iverson today."

Bella was jolted awake from her drug induced sleep at the mentioned of the name and of course the voice that spoke the name. She drowsily looked around the empty room until she spotted the tall frame at the door, partially covered in shadow.

Her captor.

She struggled against her restraint, this time a little weaker than the last. She'd lost feelings in her arms that were chained on either side of her except for the burn in her wrists that was inflicted by the metal chain Daniel used to bound her to the basement wall.

Her butt was numbed from sitting in that one position as minutes turned to hours and hours to days. Her right leg was still swollen even after ten days, she allowed him to clean the wound to avoid infection but refused to let him stitch her up as he suggested, he was the one who shot her in the first place.

"I saw Iverson today." He repeated as if she didn't hear him and walked further into the room with a food and water flask in hand.

Fear seized Bella's heart as her eyes focused on his split and swollen lips.

"What did you do to him?" She tiredly rasped out, trying to play down the panic building up in her chest.

She would never have thought Daniel was capable of hurting her, yet he shot her and then had her chained up like an animal. She had enough ideas of what he was capable of now and it scares the hell out of her. In fact she was still having a hard time wrapping her head around everything this dark Daniel was capable of.

Luckily the bullet he fired had only grazed her leg and pilled off some flesh before lodging in their entrance door. It hurt like hell. It did made her collapse and stopped her escape so Daniel either had a very good aim or a very bad one and she would rather not find out again.

Not like it was possible anyway, she was losing hope on ever getting out of this situation. Not by fighting, she'd realized that after three days. She understood what tick and what triggers him now.

"If what you're asking is if I killed him, the answer is not yet. The temptation was great though."

A frightened chillness went down Bella's spine at his words. "Please Daniel, leave him alone. I'll do anything you want just leave him out of this."

He stared at her for a moment and she tried to swallow down her fear so it didn't bubble up to the surface.

How had she not noticed this haunted look in his eyes before?

"It should be him concerned about you but he is not. He was on his way to the airport when I saw him." Daniel said and paused for his words to sink in.

"He left you and he's never coming back."

What? She felt the pieces of her heart dropped into the pit of her stomach and sadness shrouded. He really left?

It wasn't like she had been expecting him to be out there searching for her, he probably didn't care she was missing but he was leaving Metropolis altogether? He promised her he wasn't going to leave!

She bit down on her lip until she tasted blood and she kept biting. It was either that or screaming and she still remembered what Daniel had told her when she first opened her eyes to find herself all chained up.

Apparently she had been unconscious when he brought her in, she have no idea where they were, only that it was a basement and she had screamed her lungs out upon opening her eyes.

Daniel had stood to the side and patiently played with his gun until her voice was hoarse.

"You can scream but don't  get your hopes up, no one will find you here." He had told her in a bored tone.

It took her three days to believe him, three days of crying and screaming and trashing against her restraint but she'd finally understood that she was no damsel in distress, this wasn't a fairytale, no knight in shining armour was coming to save her.

She have to save herself.

"He's gone to chase after some foolish 'dream' in Los Angeles." Daniel said in annoyance as he laid out the food he brought on the little metal table closed to where she was chained. She wouldn't lie, her mouth watered as his signature aroma for Mac and cheese reached her nose. She was grateful that he wasn't starving her, he made sure she had enough to eat and drink. The Daniel she knew was still in there somewhere, or at least she hoped.

"You see what I mean, people are unreliable scumbags." He spat. "They will always leave but I never will, I'm your half. You and I are supposed to be together, always and forever."

He pulled the only other chair in the room close to her and proceeded to feed her by himself as it had become routine. He only ever unchained her when she needed to use the bathroom and it was always with his gun on display for her to bear in mind that any wrong move could be her last.

He sedated  her whenever he needed to go out to bring food and would return just as it begin to wear off.

"You deserve the best and I will give you it if you stay with me." He held a spoonful of Mac to her mouth and continued. "I hate to brag but money is not a problem. I'll take you places, anywhere in the world you want to go. Just you and I. You can have and play with any guy you want, I won't mind as long as you and I remain inseparable."

That right there was the problem, she recognized it now. Irrational fear of being alone, there had to be a medical term for such mental illness.

Daniel had been lonely for most of his life, he just can't handle another person that mean something to him to leave him. Cynthia's leaving triggered his dark side and luckily for her but unfortunately for Bella, Cynthia didn't mean as much to him as Bella, his twin sister.

He had shown her the DNA result and as far as she could tell, it was legit. Bella had always idolized her mother but after this, she had no idea what to think of the woman. Why did she gave Daniel up? What made her do it? Why did she never mentioned him to her? Her father had always been a prohibited subject at home and that was okay with Bella because she had always believed the man, whoever he was didn't want her but a twin brother?

She was furious and disappointed in her mother to say the least and these was all her fault, Daniel was the way he was because of her greediness.

"I know a guy who used to work for the CIA." Daniel was saying, alternating the spoon full of food between his mouth and hers. She didn't mind, they shared their food this way sometimes before she even realize they were siblings. Iverson had always been jealous of it.

Iverson. Bella felt a pang in her chest at the thought. Will she ever see him again?

"He's going to make a couple new IDs for us and it's going to be the real thing! We can go anywhere you want, where none of these people that don't deserve us will ever find us." He spoke enthusiastically, like he had everything figured out.

Bella kept bobbing her head along with him, she was only half listening to his great escape plans until he spoke again.

"Are you going to say anything aside nod to everything?" He asked. She made eye contact with him and noticed he was getting irritated, she knew she had to tread carefully now to avoid triggering him.

Slowly chewing off her bite, she nodded once again and said, "Okay."

"Okay to what? What are you planning?" He tensed and his hand with the spoon froze in the air.

Shit. "I'm not planning anything, okay as in I'll go with you wherever..."

"Don't fúcking lie to me!" Daniel suddenly exploded, back handing her hard across the cheek that her head snapped to the side and for a good five seconds all she saw was darkness.

It wasn't the first time he had hit her in the past ten days, she had his angry fingers imprinted all over her face and neck but each time still caught her by surprise.

"You think I'm stupid?!" He yelled. "You're pretending to agree with everything I say so I can release you and then you'll run to the fùcking cops! You think I'm stupid? I'm trying to save you from getting hurt by people! I'm trying to protect you and give you a better life, don't you see? I am your brother, Bella. Stop fùcking lying to me!"

"I'm not." Bella cried out. "I'm not ly..ing" she choked on her sob and struggle to regain her breath. "..I'm not lying, I swear." She repeated and meant it.

Daniel wasn't himself, she had even helped him to chuck everything he was doing under insanity defense. He was sick and she would rather get him the help he needed than file a charge against him. He was her best friend and now he was her twin brother.

He leaned down and cupped her face with his palms, wiping her tears with his thumbs. "I'm sorry I hit you, please don't cry. I don't want to hurt you but you make me, I'm sorry."He apologized earnestly.

"Do you really mean that? You'll give up your life here and come with me?"

She sniffed and nodded her head repeated, what other choice did she have aside provoke him and end up in a body bag.

"Prove it." Daniel said and leaned back up, she squirted her eyes at him as he dug into his back pocket and produced a pen and a paper.

"Prove it Bella, take the first step by writing a suicide note to your mother."

**

Iverson found himself in a bar. Well, if he was being sincere he consciously drove himself there. It wasn't like some sort of teleportation happened and puff...he was in bar.

He drove around aimlessly for two solid hours after leaving Dan's place before deciding getting shitface was in order. He'd extended a quick invitation to Biggie, cause they say 'the more the merrier' but the ásshole was too busy loving up his girlfriend to spare time for a screwed friend.

So fúck that shit, Iverson was the life of his own party and after six shots of Jack Daniels, he decided on taking it up a notch and ordered the full bottle to nurse the the pain in his head and heart. It might be a long night yet.

In the closest booth to his right, a man has his tongue shoved down his lady friend's throat and she had her hands wounded in his hair as she tried to suck his face off.

They've been at it for more than ten minutes and when the lady finally straddled the man, Iverson rolled his eyes at them and downed another shot.

A while later, he slid down the bar stool and made his way to a vacant booth to get comfortable, smirking in the way of a blondie and a brunette on his left as a form of greeting. They've been side eyeing him since they came in the bar a few minutes after him and he amused himself with how they giggled each time he looked their way. He wasn't sure if it was because of him or the couple making out behind him.

He began to walk away but on a second thought, he was single after all, he should definitely mingle.

"Hi, I'm Iverson. My girlfriend just left me for my best friend." The words came tumbling out of his mouth and he would have face palmed if he didn't have the whiskey bottle and the shot glass in his hands.

The brunette exchanged a weird look with the blonde and he groaned internally. Great, now they think he was a nutjob.

Approaching girls had never been his forte, he wouldn't have dared if there wasn't already a little liquor in his system.

"Hey, I'm Tess and this is my girlfriend, Elena." The blonde said, draping an arm around the bru..Elena.

"Great, another couple." Iverson scoffed under his breath. His love life resembles something out of his nightmare and suddenly everyone around him seemed sickening in love.

The brun..Elena raised her eyebrows at him. "Does our sexualities bother you?" She asked defensively.

He scoffed again and poured himself another shot. "No one is going to love you back anyways, how's being straight working for me so far?"

The girls burst into laughs and after a moment, he joined them. The power of alcohol, they couldn't stop laughing.

Tess snorted and they laughed because she snorted and then they all snorted because they laughed.

"This is called snaughing." She said and Iverson doubled over in laughter, at that moment, it was the funniest thing he had ever heard.

"What are you girls having?" He asked after they somewhat gained control of themselves.

"J&J." Elena said.

"What's a J&J?"

"Gin and Juice." She replied in a duh tone.

Iverson laughed. "Shouldn't that be a G&J?"

She shrugged and flipped her hair, the action almost reminded him of Bella but he quenched that memory by throwing another shot down his throat.

"It's Jin where I came from. With a J."

"Yeah? Where'd come from?"

"My mother's uterus." She said and they all had another fists of laughter.

After getting the girls another round of drinks he soon found himself crammed between them at a vacant booth, laughing at every ridiculous thing that came out of their mouths.

This was without a doubt the best night he'd had since Bella sent him packing. Right after she gave him that mind blowing sex. He still remember the way their bodies move in sync after being joined together, the smoothness and warmth of her skin, the taste of her...

He downed two shots in a row to chase that memory away too. He was in that bar to get over her and get over her he would.

His mind came back to the present when he felt a palm caressing his thigh and he looked down to see Tess' hand moving towards his member.

"Want a little help getting over that bîtch who left you?" She leaned into his body and whispered seductively in his ear before biting the lobe teasingly.

His throat ran dry. "I..erh..you.." He stammered at a loss for words.

"Won't you rather get out of here and have a great night?" Elena pipped in on his other side and ran a hand down his chest.

Iverson looked between the two girls in confusion and surprise. "I thought you two are together."

"Yeah, but we are also young. We like to have fun and experiment." Elena whispered with her boobs smudged against his bicep.

Iverson realized at that moment that Elena had two of his favorite things: brown hair and brown eyes, like Bel...

He swallowed what was left of his drink and leaned back in the chair with the burn in his throat and a grin on his face. "What do you girls have in mind?" He said, a part of him already getting excited.
