Double Date
“What do you want to do beautiful.” Jin and I walked out to his car when school was dismissed. We were holding hands swinging our arms back and forth.
“I don’t know, whatever you want to do.” I replied. We reached the car when Namjoon walked up to us.
“Congrats you too.” Namjoon said. Jin thanks Namjoon and begins to talk with him.
“Hey tomorrow is Saturday and Rachel and I were wondering if you guys wanted to come on a double date with us to the carnival that’s in town.” Namjoon proposes. Jin looks at me and I simply shrug my shoulders. I mean I guess it’s okay, what could go wrong? At least I’m staying positive.
“I think we can do that.” Jin says. Namjoon tells us the plan and hugs Jin goodbye, only waving at me awkwardly. Jin turns around and opens the car door for me. I get in and Jin comes around and sits in the drivers seat.
“Hey, I have a good idea.” I bring up. “Tonight you should come over for dinner.” Jin smiles and turns on the engine of the car.
“I’d like that.” Jin pulls out and drives away from school.
Jin pulls into my driveway at my house and I get out.
“See you at six?” Jin nodded and I close the car door.
I walk into my house and still not used to the difference of my drunk dad not being home. It’s nicer, cleaner and peaceful. I come into the livingroom to see my mom changing the bandage on her stomach.
“Oh mom, let me help you.” I throw my stuff down and run over to my mom who was on the couch.
“Mom, I invited someone over for dinner tonight.” I began to clean her wound and place a new clean bandage on it.
“Oh dear, I can’t wait to meet them.” My mom says. I smile and finish up.
“Me too. I can help you with dinner mom.” My mom waves her hand in my face and gets up. My mom is the cook in the house, it was like she was born to be in the kitchen. She just never got to use the kitchen because dad never let her.
“Okay mom. Well, I’m going to my room to do homework.” I grab my bookbag and walk upstairs to my room.
Long hours of studying and homework pass. I look up at the clock that sat on my dresser and realized I lost track of time. I get up and clean myself up to make myself look nice. After that, I head downstairs to a powerful scent of food. I walk into the kitchen to see my mom cooking at the stove.
“Here, go set the table.” I obey and grab plates and silverware and head to the table. Once I set the table I hear a knock on the door. My heart leaped and I go to the door.
“Hello.” I open the door Jin holding a bouquet of red roses. I smile real wide and excited to see my love.
“Come in. Come in.” I greet him with a small hug and he pecks me on the cheek.
“Mom, this is Jin, he’s a senior at our school.” Jin greets my mom and I grab the roses to put them in a vase.
“What a fine young gentleman you have here, Sungmin.” My mom adds on. “You better keep him.” I laugh and walk over to my mom and Jin.
“I hope so too.” We all laugh and Jin and I help my mom carry food to the table. Jin pulls out a chair for my mom to sit in as well for me too. Jin takes a seat next to me, blesses the food and we began to eat.
“So, what is your relationship with my daughter?” My mom brings up. “Mom…” I groan. Jin smiles and looks at me.
“Well miss, I was going to ask you tonight if I could have your daughter’s hand.” My mom choked on her drink. I can feel this will end bad already.
“In marriage? Are you crazy! I have to say that you are my favorite, but I do not accept. She is too young.” My mom established. Jin laughs and clears his throat.
“Miss I do not want to marry you daughter at this time. I just want to ask to get approved to date her.” Jin said.
“Well why didn’t you that in the first place. Yes of course you can sweetheart.” My mom said. I took a long breath and sunk in my chair. Well glad that’s over.
Dinner was done and Jin and I offered to clean up since my mom cooked. In the kitchen, Jin was doing the dishes while I cleaned the counters and swept the floor. In the middle of my sweeping and then I felt something wet and bubbly hit my face.
“Hey!” I turn to Jin who giggled like a little school girl. I walked over and stuck my hand in the sink to get some bubbles to throw at Jin. This started a war.
Jin and I got so lost in throwing bubbles at each other that we didn’t know we made a even bigger mess in the kitchen.
“Look what you did!” Jin grabbed me playfully by the wrist.
“You started it!” I giggled. Jin joined in and pulled me closer to him. He placed his hands on my waist and to a surprise took one hand and lightly slapped a handful of bubbles on my face.
“Jin! You are so dead!” I yelled and chased Jin around in the kitchen.
“Okay, okay. You win!” We both laughed and started to clean up again.
When it was getting late Jin had to go home so I walked him to his car.
“Pick you up tomorrow morning?” Jin said.
“Of course.” I reached up and kissed Jin on the lips before he got in the car. He started the car and pulled out of the driveway, leaving me waving goodbye.
I walk inside and jumped when my mother was standing in the kitchen with her arms crossed.
“Mom! You scared me!” I gasped and placed a hand on my heart.
“Sungmin, I like that boy of yours.” My mom simply said and walked out of the kitchen. I didn’t question and went up my room to get ready for bed. I grabbed some clothes to sleep in and headed for the shower.
I woke up this morning, like every morning to the annoying sound of my alarm. I groan and roll out of bed. Today is the day that I will have my first double date. I get up and go to my closet to pick out some clothes. I pull out ripped shorts, a red hoodie and some sneakers. I want to look nice, but casual.
I throw on my clothes and take a look in the mirror. I smile and go to the bathroom to fix my hair and apply a little makeup. I want to change up my hairstyle a bit so I pull out a curling iron and remembered how Rachel curls her hair. I take the curling iron and began to work on my hair.
After a whole frustrating thirty minutes I finally got my hair to look the way I wanted it and go to the living room. I grab a small cute backpack and pack it with water bottles and snacks because carnival food is so darn expensive. I tell my mom bye and go outside to wait for Jin.
Minutes pass and Jin along with Rachel and Namjoon, all in his car, pulls in my driveway. Jin gets out of the car to greet me.
“Sungmin you look amazing.” Jin said. I look down to see what Jin was wearing. It was about the same concept. He was very casual with fitted jeans, a graphic t-shirt and a thin jacket to go with it.
“So do you.” I smile and take his arm to led me to the passenger side of his car nice car. I get in only to be greeted by Rachel and Namjoon. Well mostly Namjoon. Rachel only just smiled a little and focused her eyes looking out the window.
Jin places his hand on my knee and rubs it to tell me everything will be okay. Jin lets go and pulls out to drive on the road.
The carnival is packed with people. After searching for about forty minutes, we finally found a good place to park. Everyone gets out of the car and walks to the gate to get tickets. Namjoon pays first for him and Rachel, then Jin pays for me and him.
“You don’t have to buy my ticket for me.” I looked up at Jin.
“Too late.” Jin hands his money to the person and gets two wristbands, meaning unlimited passes. He puts the wristband on my wrist and I do the same for him.
We all walk in and immediately Rachel grabs Namjoon’s arm and whines that she wants to ride all the rides around her. Namjoon gets dragged by her only leaving me and Jin.
“Let’s go on that one.” Jin points out a medium size rollercoaster. I nod slowly and Jin grabs my hand. We reach the line and waiting till we go up to the first. My heart beating faster and faster every step we take.
“What’s wrong?” Jin looks at me.
“I've never been on a roller coaster before.” I feel Jin’s hand grip my hand tighter.
“It will be okay. I’ll be here the whole time.” We walk up and sit down in a cart where someone assists us with our seatbelts. The man wraps the seat belt around me and tightens it up, making me feel secure. Maybe this won’t be too bad.
An alarm went off and the cart began to move. I grip Jin’s arm tight preparing for the ride. In a moment the cart was speeding up and took turns and twist. I scream and remind myself that Jin is next to me.
But things got worse. We began to go up steep hill and reach the top and come to a stop. I took a pause and looked around seeing what was happening.
“Prepare yourself.” Jin said. I braced myself for the worst, grabbing for Jin and closing my eyes shut. The cart slowly tipped and became a huge rush down the hill. Jin and I both scream, and then later jerked to a stop. I slowly peek out from under my eyelids and became relieved that the ride was over.
Jin helped me unbuckle myself and I slowly got out of the cart feeling almost like I was drunk.
“Woah, careful.” Jin grabbed me to keep me steady as I tripped getting off the ride. We hit the ground and I fell into Jin’s arms.
“Never. Again.” I said. Jin laughed and guided me to where Namjoon and Rachel were. Namjoon was trying to win a prize for Rachel.
“He’s trying to win me that big panda over there.” Rachel pointed to the huge oversized panda. Namjoon feeling frustrated took one more try at hitting down all the pins with only three balls.
“Here let me try.” Jin said and let go of me, making me unsteady again. Namjoon comes over and places a hand on my shoulder. I look over to see Rachel snickering and I quickly remove his hand off of me.
I watched Jin take down all the pins with only three balls. He points to the huge stuffed panda and receives it. Jin walks over to me and holds out the panda. I look over to Rachel complaining to Namjoon. I actually have pity on Namjoon so I told Jin that it seems Rachel wants it more than I do. Jin agrees and hands it over to Namjoon who gives it to Rachel.
“I’m hungry. “ Rachel says and grabs Namjoon to look for food. Jin takes me by my hand and we follow them.
After getting some food, we find a place to sit to eat. Namjoon and Jin sit on one side while meanwhile the panda, Rachel and I sit on the other side.
“Sungmin, you look absolutely gorgeous today.” Jin props his head up with his elbow on the table, admiring me. I giggle and continued to eat.
“You know you should do your hair like that everyday. It looks nice on you, doesn’t it Namjoon?” Jin said. Namjoon looks over to me and nods with a smile in agreement. I can feel Rachel getting very uncomfortable.
“I’m going to get some more napkins.” Rachel announces. She stands up and purposely hits her hand on my drink that was on the edge of the table, making it spill all over my lap.
“Rachel!” I yell, standing up, letting most of the excess drink drip off of me.
“Opps my bad.” Rachel just said and sits back down. I could feel my face getting red from my anger as I storm off to the bathroom. I mean it could've been worse. I could of been wearing jeans, but still my shorts were pretty much soaked.
I could here Namjoon call for me and Jin telling him to stay with Rachel. I walk faster and enter the bathroom. I got to the sink and grab a handful of paper towels and began to clean off my shorts. I’m going to smell like lemonade for the rest of the day.
“The hand dryer works better.” Said a girl who passed by me. I looked over and had never been so excited to see the hand dryer on the wall. I thanked the girl and ran over there and dried my shorts ten times faster than paper towels would have.
When I got done, I exit the bathroom to see Jin leaning against the wall. He sees me and walks over.
“Namjoon apologies for Rachel’s behavior. He said he doesn’t know what has gotten into her and that he will make sure she won’t bother you again today.” Jin throws his arm around my shoulder.
“So what shall we do now?” Jin offers making me forget the situation that just happened with Rachel.
