Prologue

Urban's POV
Raindrops drummed against the galvanized roofing of my New York city apartment. While others danced upon the window sill. The thunder played a deep, hollow melody and the wind sung it's chorus. The air was of an unnatural chill and my body struggled to keep warm under my mountain of covers. Yet I still couldn't seem to care. My pillows were all soaked in the salty water known as tears. My eyes were tomatoes and stung upon opening but I couldn't be bothered it still didn't hurt as much as what my fiancè Leon Strong did to me earlier that night
Flashback
"Done for the day?" My co- worker Cinder Muffins asked as I slammed my laptop shut.
I nodded. I had completed all of my editing for the next edition of Vogue magazine.
"I see.." she said then hesitated before speaking again" have anything special planned for tonight?"
I adjusted my black thick rimmed glasses.
"I guess, Leon's taking me out nothing extravagant really."
She gave me a nod and a smile before moving on to another conversation. I picked up all my belongings and headed into my car. I arrived home after half an hour of driving. I took everything out of my car and headed into the silver elevators. Upon reaching my floor I walked into the blue themed modern halls and opened my apartment door. After securely putting away my camera I threw myself onto my bed and inhaled for awhile. I was excited about the night Leon had planned for me. Every Valentine's day since I was 16 years old we did something special. I glanced at my dressing table that was adorned with his yearly valentines presents. They were all objects that were sacred to our relationship and represented a special secret in our lives. I smiled. I loved Leon Strong. I've loved him ever since we were babies giving our mothers a hell of a headache. Nothing could stand in the way of our love, nothing can weaken its bond. What we had was different. What we had was real and even the universe couldn't change that no matter what happens I would always love Leon Strong. At 6:30  I began to get ready. I had a long, relaxing hot bath in vanilla essence and chocolate bath bombs. I oiled my skin with my favourite scented almond oil before doing my hair. I had long, thik, light brown curls that I decided to straighten for the night. Then I entered my bedroom and looked at the items I had laid out on my bed. Fresh new lingerie in case we decided to get intimate and a brand new out fit from Zuhair Murad. One of the perks of working for a fashion company is that  you sometimes get free stuff from designer clothing lines. I slipped into the black and red lingerie and then carefully wiggled into the tight, red sequined cocktail dress that had a plunging neckline. I accesorised with the ruby jewelry set he gave me last Valentines day. Then came the shoes and makeup. I wore a pair of black 6 inched heels and applied a thick line of gel eyeliner with a beautiful contour of red eye creams. I applied my black volumising mascara before touching up my eyebrows. Finally I coated my lips with my ruby liquid lip stick. I looked at my reflection. I looked like a work of art .Leonardo Da Vinci himself would be jealous. After that I grabbed my red purse and phone before heading into the lobby to wait. I received several stares from passers by as I walked to the waiting area. I smiled happily Leon was going to love this. After a couple minutes of waiting I saw his car drive up and unable to contain my excitement I ran out to greet him.
"Hey babe" he began then gave me a quick peck on the lips "missed me that much?"
I wrapped my arms around him in a tight embrace.
"No word can begin to comprehend the amount I missed you."
He smiled and pulled away after giving me another kiss. His eyes trailed to my body.
"I swear one of these days your going to blind me with your beauty."
Blood rushed to my cheeks. He had such a way with words. He himself looked pretty darn good in a jet black skin tight suit and glistening black dress shoes. He opened my door for me.
"Shall we?"
I nodded.
After an hour of quick kisses and traffic we arrived at our destination. He was apparently taking me to Ming Dynasty a new Chinese restaurant they opened in honor of one of China's longest lasting Mornachies. My face brightened. Chinese food was my favorite type of food. We held hands as he lead me into the golden restaurant.
"Goodnight how may I help you?" The fancy dressed host said.
"Reservation for Srong." Leon stated.
The hosts eyes lingered on me before checking his list.
"Ah, right here." He said "follow me to your table."
We followed him into the picture of lavish Chinese craftsmanship to our tables. Leon pulled my chair for me.
"Your waiter will be here shortly." He told us before leaving."
Leon picked up my left hand and toyed with my diamond engagement ring.
"Do you like it here?" He inquired.
I nodded.
He smiled.
"Good".
Our waiter came and gave us the menus. My eyes sparkled at the options they had foods from all over the Chinese diaspora.
"Can't decide?" Leon asked looking up from his menu.
I giggled.
"Nope I think you should order for us both that way I wouldn't end up ordering everything."
He laughed. "You can if you want you know... I don't mine however if that's the case I'm eating at a different table."
I rolled my eyes at his joke. The waiter came back to take our appetizer orders.
"We'd like to have some wontons, Chinese dumplings and fried eggplant."
The waiter nodded. Yay Leon ordered my favorite food on the face of the universe wontons.
"So how's work going?" He asked whilst we waited.
I shrugged "it's alright nothing new just taking photos of models and editing them."
He nodded " I don't see why you're the one taking photos." He starts " those models have nothing upon you... especially when it comes to the matter of shape."
I blushed. I didn't really like a lot of compliments and Leon knew that I wondered what was causing the sudden string of compliments. Shortly after the food was brought. I delved into the wontons first my mouth immediately refusing to believe that food could taste to good. The texture was perfect the tenderness of the filling was divine and the dipping sauce was heavenly.
"Looks like somone's in paradise." Leon teased.
I smiled through my mouthful of food. The night was running beautifully or so I thought. Just as I finished my last bit of food I saw Leon glance nervously at his watch.
"What's the matter babe?" I questioned.
He shot up at me.
"Oh uh nothing it's just that I was supposed to go back to work tonight."
I frowned I was really looking forward to a sleepless night.
"Oh ok well we should get going." I replied.
He nodded he was about to call the waiter when a loud shout pierced the tranquility of the room.
"Leon Strong."
The voice yelled. I turned my head in it's direction and saw a tall red head with grey eyes in an outfit so skimpy she might as well be naked heading in our direction.
"Um uh how's she?" I asked as she got closer. Leon's face looked panicked.
"Uh she's no one baby don't worry."
I arched my eyebrows. Leon was lying.
The girl approached our table and threw herself onto Leon. I was in shock.
"That can't seriously be the girl you wanted to marry over me." The red head said as she toyed with his shirt button.
I blinked puzzedly. What the hell was going on. Leon read my face.
"I don't know what your talking about Dandelion I never said I would marry you."
She whined.
"Yes you did last friday while we were in bed you promised me, you said we'd get married!"
A look of defeat came across Leon's face and I immediately knew Dandelion was right. Tears formed in my eyes but I refused to let them fall. My brain couldn't even understand what was going on and my heart well it stopped beating. I was in a complete state of disbelief. Leon cheated on me. The words hit me like a bullet. They burned they pained they killed me. How could he betray my trust. I got up from my seat and stormed out the resrurant. Leon rushed after me.
"Urban!" He yelled.
I kept on walking my vision blury from my tears. He grabbed my wrists and turned my head in his direction his stormy grey eyes piercing through my soul. Causing my heart to plapitate faster. Our lips were inches a way and even though I was devastated I still had the urge to kiss him.
"Urban baby I'm so sorry... I went out with some friends last friday... got drunk... did some stupid things..."
My heart shattered and I felt the actual pain sting my chest and increase with every breath I took. He did cheat on me. I yanked my hand away from him and through a shaky voice I spoke.
"Never speak to me again."
Then I walked away. On the subway ride back home I pondered over his betrayal. Why did the universe do this to me. It put me in a situation where this guy was the core to my earth the gravitation force that kept me grounded and then tore us apart. The universe took my love away it ripped it out of my soul. Draining the blood from my heart and leaving a black decaying organ. I quietly sniffed as I walked to my apartment. All I could think about was the injustice that was done to me. Why did love have to do this to me? The more I walked the more why's I asked the universe even though it was to busy working along with love to destroy people's hearts to listen.
Why does love have to be a total disaster?
Why does man have to be the heartbreak master?
As I entered my room. The rain began to pour like water falling from Niagara. I flung myself onto my bed and sobbed. I looked out my window and saw that the sky had more stars in it than usual and I couldn't help but curse this day and then it dawned on me. Maybe Valentine's day was not about true love but broken hearts instead. I smiled at the stars and a nice haiku made it's way to my mind:
Tonight broken hearts will
Illuminate the sky
In tribute to pain. (My original haiku)
I then fell alseep and got lost in a sea of sadness.
