The Big Sister Thing
Hey everyone, thanks for reading so far! Just wanted to let you know the next few chapters are a few fillers because Michael is only rehearsing, so the focus will mostly be on Rayne and her sister!
Rayne's POV
"Ok Alonna, I'll let you know.. bye bye." I chuckle in a fake tone before hanging up my phone. I toss it to the side where Michael slept releasing an irritable sigh.
Michael chuckles "what's wrong?" He turns to look up at me.
"Alonna is constantly trying to make some kind of plan to get together and I'm just not ready. It feels forced." I groan.
Michael gives me a look, "like how you tried to force me to deal with Joh'vonnie?" He asked smugly.
I hold up a finger, "no no, that was different. You know Joh' is your sister, I don't know if Alonna is honestly my sister."
"Although she has paper work and a birth certificate with your mother's name on it.." his matter of fact tone causing my lip to curl in frustration. "..but there's such a strong possibility she's not your sister." Michael laughs sarcastically, he stands to head into the bathroom, "face it.. you've got a sister."
"Shut up." I mutter, "it just feels like this is an elaborate joke. I could only imagine how hard my mother is laughing."
Michael laughs louder, standing in front of me as I push my bed head out of my face, "aww baby." He says before pecking my forehead. "What's really bothering you?" He asks, sitting on the bed with my legs in his lap.
I shrug, fiddling my fingers. "I don't know, it's just hard to accept. She told me she had a good life.. well I didn't. Why did mom give her up? Why not me?"
"Well... think of it this way, if your mom gave you up instead, you wouldn't have had two kids with a man you're so deeply in love with." He chuckles, "and all of this, would belong to your sister." He smiles.
I laughed, "technically no. Her dad didn't live across from the Jackson 5.. she wouldn't have ever met you." I fold my arms, "You still had a chance with me either way."
"Well aren't I lucky?" Michael laughs. "Seriously, I think you and your sister need to bond.. she has no idea who her mother was, at least show her that you're not like your mother. Don't shut her out babe."
I give him a playful pout, "you always know just what to say." I roll my eyes, he gives me a grin before heading downstairs to make breakfast for the kids.

I decided to listen to Mike for once. Even though when it came to talking him into dealing with his sister, it was like talking to a brick wall. I called Alonna back and set up a spot for us to meet. Michael had Leon tag along with me, even though he knew I hated having security with me everywhere I go. He felt like "things weren't going well" because he's had to change his cell number 3 times in the last 5 months. Just being my paranoid husband, as usual.
I grabbed a seat at the booth in the back while Leon stood off to the side, Alonna, rushed in giving me a small smile and reaching out for a hug, her short blue heels clicked across the wood floor in a hurried rhythm to get to me.
"Hey, I'm so glad you called back!" She smiled, sitting in front of me. "And you beefed up security this time." She chuckles awkwardly.
"Yeah.. husband's orders." I smirk, trying to let her know Leon wasn't here because of her. We sat for a few minutes casually clearing our throats and glancing at the laminated menus in front of us.
"Listen, I'm still getting the hang of this older sister thing. So I'm sorry if it comes off like I don't wanna be around you. It's not that, I'm just new to this." I explained, reaching my arm across the table to grip hers.
She chuckles lightly, "no I completely understand. I'm sure this is a lot to take in, I'm just glad we got to meet. You think mom would be happy?" She asked.
Once again her eyes met me with a glimpse of desperation for a positive answer. I was going to respond truthfully but simply quieted myself with a smile and nod. She sat back in her seat, a small smile to herself, comfortable with the lie I told.
I sunk into my menu to hide my guilt before my new-found sister broke the silence between us again. "It was so nice to meet your kids.. your daughter seems to have quite the personality." She giggled.
"Yeah, I hope you weren't expecting her to call you 'aunt' in her first breath to you.. she asks a lot of questions." I roll my eyes playfully. "So, tell me about your life and how you grew up, I'm sure it's different from my story." I smile, trying to make myself more open to her.
"Mom gave me up for adoption at birth, I got adopted at 2 by this lovely black family. My mother was a writer and my father was a community organizer. You know the 60's and segregation and stuff.. anyway, I grew up pretty well. We had a nice home and made a decent amount of money. When I was about 22, I found my birth certificate and that's when I found out I was adopted and mom's real name was Tammi. I had been searching for years but the closest I'd ever gotten was to your dad after he died. When I found out he had a daughter I knew that was my answer, then I found out you were married to Michael Jackson... I thought it'd be impossible to connect with you. Thankfully we did, right?" She smiles.
I give a small nod. "Do you want to go to her grave?" I ask.
Her eyes lit up with confusion, "moms?"
"Yeah.. her birthday is coming up and I usually go visit her. It's the only time I can gain a connection with her... maybe it'll give you something to feel too."
Her mouth gaped open as if she was faced with the opportunity of a lifetime, "definitely. When is her birthday?"
"Next month. Maybe we can bond on the trip too." I add.
"That sounds great, I'd love that." She smiles before my cell rings with Michael's name across the ID.
"Hey mike." I answer.
"Hey did you forget I had to meet the fellas at the dance studio? Remember you're supposed to have the kids today.." Michael asks, slightly annoyed.
I sigh, "I'm sorry babe, I did.. I'm finishing up here now, I'll be home in 20" I hang up and give Alonna a sympathetic smile, "I'm sorry.."
"No problem, I've gotta run anyway..we'll catch up later." She smiles, hugging me.

I rush in as Michael rushes out taking only a small moment to peck my cheek, "tell me how your meeting went when I get back" he calls, closing the door behind him.
The kids and I spent the rest of the day watching movies, eating junk and sleeping. All things they'd do with dad, but they seemed to enjoy it with me. I'm the usually the "eat your vegetables" parent, so I'm pretty sure I caught the kids off guard being the fun parent for once.
"Mommy." Camille asks, beaming her big eyes at me.
"Yes baby?"
"When did you get a sister?" She asked.
I clutch Mikey closer to my chest as he slept to prevent his falling, before I sighed heavily. "My mother gave me a sister a long time ago.. I just didn't know her."
"Oh.." she nods slowly, "do I have a sister?" She asked
I giggled, "no, you only have Mikey" she took my answer and left to her room in content. I followed placing Michael in his crib, realizing it was almost time for him to get an actual bed before he followed his sister's footsteps and started climbing out.
Michael entered the house shortly after gripping his back sharply, "pulled a muscle dancing too hard?" I ask, he nods sitting beside me to rub his back cramp before releasing a relieved sigh. "Six hours of straight dancing.. I've never been so tired."
I giggle, "that's because you're 41 Michael, not 20.. you've gotta slow down before you really hurt yourself."
He groans, "I know." He leans his back into my arms as I wrapped my arms around his shoulders comfortably, allowing him to fiddle with my fingers.
"Other than hurting your back, how do you think you guys did?" I ask, leaning my head on his.
"We're getting better, everyone's gotta get back in the groove of things, Randy's not used to Jermaine being beside him so it's awkward but they'll get it... what about you and you're sister? How'd it go?"
I shrug, "it takes some getting used to.. she's nice, I can tell she has a good heart.."
"But?" He replies expectantly. I swear he knows me too well for my own good.
I roll my eyes, "but I have to make myself open up to her."
Michael nods, "at least you admit it.."
I nudge him playfully, "you know you don't know me as well as you think you do." I snicker.
"I know you inside and out.." he smirks running a finger up and down my thigh.
"So you know that I invited her to come with me to my mother's grave?" I imply.
Michael's jaw dropped, "really? That's good! I'm proud of you." He says standing and kissing my lips. He pulls me up by my arms and leads me to our bedroom.
"I just hope I can do this 'big sister' thing right.."
"Well I know you can do it, and I know another thing you do perfectly.." he smirks shutting the door behind us.
