RECAP
Sure enough, the larger human was back in a minute, setting a filled bowl down and taking the empty one. The feeling filling the being was one he could not begin to describe, but it was not fear, which was strange, as usually he only ever felt fear at this amount. However, he liked this feeling, that must be a good sign. He wasted no time in finishing off a third, fourth, and even a fifth bowl, feeling, for the first time in...what seemed like forever, satisfied.
On the seventh helping, he began to feel drowsy, and warmer than he ever thought he'd be. To try and show he needed no more, he left the bowl upside-down. It must have worked, as no more appeared. He realized he wasn't shivering as badly as he slowly succumbed to the tiredness pressing over him. Nestling against the rough trunk of the tree he had claimed, the being felt his heart swell with a warm feeling, and he smiled a little before his eyes shut completely and he was asleep.

Unknown Goals
Jake woke late to...purring...in his left ear.
He yelped a little, jerking his head away and turning, blankets rustling around him. He didn't own a cat—!
Bright purple eyes blinked open right in front of his face. Jake's breath caught a little, fear spiking in his heart before it vanished. Right...this thing wasn't hostile...
The little End creature that had decided to sleep beside him made a mrowl sound, blinking lazily at him. Jake frowned, poking the thing in the cheek, his finger rasping against the rough skin, "Thanks for the scare...now go cuddle with Steve...he's the reason you're not out in the snow."
The catlike creature merely reached up a clawed hand and gripped his finger, rolled on its back, and gnawed on Jake's knuckle. Jake sighed and rolled his sky-blue eyes. The creature didn't have teeth or anything, rather the jaw was hard and sharp and bony...and rough. At least the small thing was relatively gentle. Jake lifted his head a bit, peering over the black creature to see if Steve was still asleep.
His bed of furs and blankets was empty, the materials lying in large wrinkles. Jake sighed again, realizing the end creature must have gone to him when Steve had left, "How long as he been gone, huh?" He eyed the little thing. It only blinked at him, the slitted pupils narrowing, then widening again.
The door was shoved open suddenly, making Jake jump, looking over quickly. Steve shouldered his way inside and closed the door. He carried an armload of wood over to the fire, where he knelt, beginning to unwrap his scarf.
"Your cat is devouring me alive."
Steve jumped slightly, turning as he peeled off his jacket. He grinned at Jake's tired face, "Eh, don't worry. I'm sure he'll only eat half of you. He's a small thing."
"It's a 'he' now?"
Jake grumbled something, and Steve laughed, standing and brushing off his clothes, causing light powder to fall from him. A log popped in the fireplace as he stretched, making his way over to the closet Jake stored his game bags in, "I'm going to check out the rest of those traps, alright? You'll need the meat and furs soon, I need something to do, and you need to stay off that leg." He pulled open the door, which creaked in protest, throwing a grin over his shoulder at Jake.
The hunter rolled his eyes but glanced worriedly out the window as he did so, noting the color of the sky, the stillness of the trees. As Steve tramped out, looping the game bag strap over his shoulder and checking the buckle on his sword's sheath, Jake turned, "Careful...the weather is looking weird... There may be a blizzard by nightfall..."
Steve shrugged indifferently, his thick jacket rustling, "Eh, I'll be back before then. It's just what...ten traps? I should be done before then. It's barely noon now."
"There are twelve on the west side of the mountain...that's where a giant cliff is...I don't want you accidentally stepping off. It's easily 200 blocks, if not—"
Steve waved his hand, interrupting the blond, "Psh... Don't worry. I know enough about the terrain. I'll see you later."
Jack opened his mouth to protest, but Steve interrupted him as he buttoned his jacket and pulled open the door, "No moving on that leg! I want you healed as fast as humanly possible."
The door shut with a thud before Jake could say anything. Jake bit his lip, looking out the window as Steve tramped off into the trees, "Be...careful......please..."

Steve tugged his scarf up at the chill air nipped at his nose, freezing little icicles to his unshaven goatee. He wished he hadn't walked out so quickly, Jake seemed concerned, but he shrugged it off. He'd be home soon and teasing Jake about being a mother hen again.
Oh, how wrong he was.
Steve wasn't even to the fifth trap when the wind suddenly picked up, causing trees to creak and protest, icicles to shatter and thud into the snow like spectral arrows from the Aether. Steve frowned at the clouding sky, not knowing that, back at the house, Jake was doing the same. The miner sighed, hurrying over to the trap and freeing the frozen rabbit from the steel jaws, stuffing it into his pack. He'd just have to save the other traps for another day.
Steve stood, checking his map again, which flapped wildly in the wind and driving snow. He realized he could cut his trip time into half if he cut across the woods, instead of going along the traps. It would probably be safest...after all, it was getting extremely cold and windy, fast.

Back at the house, Jake was glancing anxiously out the window, hearing it rattle as the wind picked up, "C'mon Steve..."
The end creature was in the woodpile, sitting on it and examining bits of bark it pried off. It was quiet, at least, but the silence only made the hunter more and more nervous, wondering if Steve were going to make it home, and hoping he was going to make it in time...
Unknown to Jake, the white-eyed being was watching him through the window, noting his glances of fear, seeing the other human was gone. The being had seen the taller leave, and he'd suspected he was going out for yet more wood. A heavy storm was coming, one that would last three days exactly. If the larger human couldn't make it home in time...
The being's empty eyes narrowed. No, he could not allow it. The younger still needed a caretaker, after all...
Besides, he was, against his will, growing...attached...to them. When the taller had saved a creature known to grow up and kill his kind...it had sparked, strangely, hope within him... Hope that possibly, he too could be accepted.
The being shook his head. Where were these thoughts coming from? No, he could never allow himself to be too near...he was their greatest danger even in this vast land so full of deadly things.
Turning, the being began to stretch out his senses, probing the rocks, the very earth and snow, and sky, for answers.
In seconds, his eyes flew open, and he vanished.

The tall miner started off, tucking his map away. Snow crunched beneath his boots, and the wind drove needles of ice into his face, howling like a starved wolf. Steve staggered stubbornly on, glancing at the wind-whipped map every now and again, unable to see much—
His foot suddenly plummeted down into empty air.
Steve shouted, throwing his hands up as he dropped like a stone, unable to stop or slow his fall. Something slammed into his shoulder and he cried out as it sent him spinning.
Sickening pain smashed into his leg, jarring him sharply, and a horrid snap sounded.
Steve couldn't help but let out a scream, muffled by the driven snow as the rest of his body hit a snow-covered rock with a thump. He remained lying there limply in the powder, hissing, little noises of residual pain escaping him, unable to move from his awkward position. His leg was broken, there was no question. The miner cursed himself for his foolishness...he should have listened to Jake...shouldn't have been so quick to run off rather than listen to his wisdom.
The snow burned his face where it touched flesh, but every small movement sent sharp pangs through his leg. As he lay there, he began to grow colder and colder from his lack of movement, and, he figured grimly, shock.
Steve felt the urge to sleep buzzing at the back of his head, but he fought it. He couldn't sleep, not now, he had to stay awake...had...to get...back...
The wind roared and howled on, whipping the cape and scarf of the human lying on his face on a rock jutting from the face of a massive cliff, uncaring for his life. The cold and snow lashed around him, pressing cold down upon him like a heavy burden. Steve could only fight for so long to stay awake; he could feel himself steadily losing. The last thing he knew before blackness claimed him was the soft thump of feet landing beside him, and a thin hand reaching down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The being was worried as he teleported to the top of the huge cliff, nearly invisible to unwary travelers in the blur of snow and ice. He could feel the human's slowing heartbeat, he had to hurry. The ledge was strong and large enough to hold them both, good.
He landed beside the man's unmoving body just as the blue eyes closed. The being winced when his eyes landed on the human's misshapen leg. That was not going to be fun to fix...
The human's body temperature dropped again, and the being bit his lip, realizing he would have to carry the human away from this place. He sensed a cave nearby, perfect, and he could start a fire...
Thin hands scooped up the heavy body of the miner with surprising strength. In seconds, the wind had stopped howling around him, and his unconscious form was laid on hard stone and frozen dirt. The being was relieved to see the man didn't stir through the entire process and began to hurry in and out, gathering wood and, hesitantly, creating a tiny flame with his finger, lighting the branches.
Soon, the cave was warming slowly, and the human's leg was braced and wrapped with gauze from his pack, and his arm was bound to his chest, his shoulder reset into the proper position. However, he was still shivering, badly, and his lips were tinged blue. The being frowned as he tried to build up the fire, thinking of ways he could possibly—
The thing on their roof! If it hadn't blown away, it would be perfect. The being stood, gathering power about him as he appeared on the roof. He was nearly bowled over by the wind as it hit him with the force of a speeding minecart. Ice stung his skin, but he sensed the furry thing he was after, caught by the chimney as it whipped about wildly in the storm.
Catching it up, he appeared back into his small cave, seeing the human still had yet to move. The being quickly tucked the large bit of material around his cold body, feeling his shivering ease ever so slightly. As he backed away, the realization of what he'd just done rushed to him. He'd saved a human...even used his powers unthinkingly in close range, and here he was, still breathing. The being blinked, sinking back against the rough walls, eyes fastened on the human's face, in awe that he had just prevented his death.
Perhaps...he wasn't as dangerous as he'd first thought he was...
