Ch. 32

Its been a week since the baby shower and I still haven't see the improvements on Xavier's house. Not that we haven't spent time together. We have, but its been at my house because I've had to work and its closer to the office. Xavier has been working as well, but has chosen to work from him lap top.

As I am leaving work my phone rings. I see that its Eva. "Hello." I answer on my hands free set.

"Hey, are you busy?" She asks, nicely.

"No, just driving home from work. "What's up?"

"I was curious if you wanted to get together this tomorrow and do dinner or something?" She asks, "We could so something here...or maybe somewhere else..." She hints.

"Absolutely." I tell her, chuckling. "Why don't we do dinner at Xaviers? I'll even make him cook." I say, smirking. Knowing that she's curious about his culinary skills in the kitchen.

"Oh, that'd be amazing. I'm dying to see the house, but I warn you I'm coming over early to witness the whole cooking event from start to finish."

I laugh. "You don't believe me do you?"

She scoffs. "More like I dont believe him. I can't imagine him knowing how to use anything but a microwave. I'm sure he's the one polling the wool over your eyes. Have you even looked for takeout containers after you eat?" She asks, suspiciously.

I smile at the her skepticism. "I've watched him myself. I promise he is a great cook."

"I can't wait to see it. How is the house, though? Is he happy with it?" She questions, interested.

"I'm assuming he likes it. I haven't been yet." I tell her, honestly.

"You haven't seen it?" She asks, shocked. "Why not?"

"We've been staying at my house. Xavier has been to see it, through." I don't tell her it was to get my engagement ring. Which, he still hasn't given to me. I'm not sure why, although he hasn't made it a secret. He brought it out of his pocket one night and set it on my dresser. It hasn't been moved since.

"And he didn't mention the improvements?"

"You know he doesn't care about the remodel." I say, recalling the meeting with Ian and his lack of interest in all of it.

"Well, it will be a surprise for you when you move in. Have you been busy packing?" She asks, in understanding.

I pause thinking about her logic, confused on how she could think I'd be waiting to see it until I move in. I just invited her to the house tomorrow. "I'll be seeing it tomorrow and I haven't packed anything." I clarify.

"Goodness! I'm such a control freak I could never leave my things for the movers to pack. How about I come early in the afternoon and I can help you unpack?" She offers, helpfully.

"Unpack what, Eva? I'm not moving in tomorrow." I chuckle.

The silence on the other end has me panicking.

"Oh, I thought...Well, I-" I hear her nervousness.

"What did he do?" I demand to know as I pull onto the road I live on.

"Uh, he mentioned today was the big day. That the movers were at your house." She replies, uncomfortably. "I'm so sorry. I thought you knew." I can hear the panic in her voice.

I roll my eyes. "Of course I didn't." I sneer. "Xavier might not live to see tomorrow." I pull up to my house noticing there are no moving trucks. "Eva, I think he was messing with you." I say, relieved.

She lets out a loud sigh. "Oh, that jerk! He got me good! Don't let him know I fell for it. I'll call you tomorrow."

I laugh. "Alright. Bye."

I end the call and grab my purse from the passenger seat and get out of the car. I walk up to the house and try to open the door but its locked, so I dig around in my purse for my keys and unlock the door. I walk in and my mouth drops in shock. It's empty the whole house is clean but very very empty.

Turning around I go back to my car and drive to Xaviers, going well over the speed limit. I park my car and slam the door shut. Walking up to the front door it opens and my eyes meet his.

"Xavier." I say, warningly about to have a full out screaming match if he says one word I don't like. I walk up to him glaring the whole time.

He smiles. When I'm standing directly in front of him, he drops to one knee. "Piper, please do me the honor of becoming my wife."

"You're such a shit." I say, shaking my head and smiling at the same time.

He shrugs, "Marry me, anyway."

I huff, loudly. "Yes, I'll marry you."

He slides the ring on my finger and stands up. He leans down for a quick kiss and I turn my face and give him my cheek. "I'm angry with you." I remind him.

He chuckles. "I'll make it up to you."

I raise my eyebrow. "Oh, really?"

"I've made you dinner and after that I'll draw you a bath. After the bath I'll-"

I hold up my hand. "I know what comes after bed bath."

We walk inside and I notice the paint in the hall and entryway has been lightened. "This looks much better. Don't you think?" I ask him, admiring the color.

He looks around him and shrugs. "If you're happy, I'm happy."

I laugh. "You didn't even notice did you?"

"Nope, but now that you pointed it out I see the difference." He nods. "It does look better."

He take my purse and sets it on the large entry table and we walk together to the kitchen. I notice the small changes in color, paintings and wall decor. Ian did such a good job, it all looks effortless and not overly fussy. I hate walking into the bigger homes to see that its been over designed and so formal looking.

I smell salmon cooking. "Salmon cakes?" I ask, my mouth already watering. Xavier, made these salmon cakes, similar to crab cakes very often when we were dating. They're one of my favorite recipes of his.

"That reminds me. We have plans tomorrow." I tell him picking up a piece of sliced baguette and dipping it into the olive oil and balsamic vinegar mix.

He looks at me suspiciously. "Do we?"

I nod happily. "We are having the Novak's over and you'll be cooking them one of your famous dinners." I reply, taking a bite.

He laughs. "Eva's idea?"

"Of course." I answer, smiling as I remember the phone call. "She chomping at the bit to see the house and watch you cook. She still doesn't believe me."

"Did you talk to her today?"

"Yep, on the way home. She spilled the beans about you moving me in." I admit, sitting down on a barstool as I watch him pour me a glass of wine.

He smirks and places the glass in front of me. "It wasn't a secret."

"Oh, so you just didn't tell me then?"

"I didn't want to hear, no." He replies, simply.

I shrug. "I would've said, yes." I say, honestly.

My response seems to startle him a little bit. "Really?" He asks, in disbelief.

"Yep."

He groans and runs his hands down his suddenly tired looking face. "Do you know how much work that was? Packing up and moving everything in a day."

"I can't imagine, but it serves you right." I reply, unsympathetically. "Next time, ask." I state, firmly.

I'll read through this later, I've had issues with wattpad. I must've tried posing during an update or something. Anyways, I'm really behind and want to catch up on the other stories. Let me know of any mistakes, please! That will help a lot. Thanks! XO
