Kyle and Tracy
Prologue pt. 2
“Buttercup?” Kyle Pierce had just finished taking a shower, it was a weekend and instead of working as he usually did, he decided he wanted to take his lovely, pregnant girlfriend out for lunch. They hadn’t been able to wine and dine each other with everything that has happened in their lives.
His older brother, Mason and Tracy’s older sister had swindled a man of a hotel and left for New York about two weeks ago leaving everything in their hands. The hotel, the salon, and the restaurant that Tracy had to oversee.
He wished to help, but he was the MD of a multimillion-rand family company that he ran with Greyson who was often absent from work due to his heavily pregnant wife needing his attention and to be cared for.
“Babe.” Tracy was downstairs in the kitchen, eating fruits from a bowl. She was trying to also breathe and relax. She was stressed about the success of all their business endeavors but nothing scared her like her pregnancy.
She had been pregnant twice before and all of that did not go well. At first her father beat her black and blue until she miscarried and the second time, her body rejected the pregnancy and she miscarried.
She had been dying, wishing, begging God for a miracle, for a chance to become a mother and now that it was finally here, she was scared out of her mind.
“Hey… are you eating?” Kyle asked, a little bummed. “I thought I’d take us out for lunch.” He mentioned.
Tracy sighed, the last thing she wanted was to go outside and mingle with people. “I’d rather not.”
“Why not? Are you not feeling okay?” Kyle asked, worry instantly filling his blue orbs.
This is another thing Tracy did not like. Kyle being overbearing. He was constantly by her side, asking her if she was okay, she couldn’t even yawn in peace or groan while stretching her limbs without him asking if she was okay.
Kyle has been the one suffering from cravings and mood swings and nausea, but soon as he knew of her pregnancy, all of that transferred back to her. It was like magic, pure evil magic because she hated feeling nauseous.
Between him, the nausea and heartburn, she didn’t know what or who was worse.
“I am fine and if you ask me if I am okay one more time, I am going to scream.” She passed a sarcastic smile and walked over to the couch. She was a little over 8 weeks and was forever anxious. Her dreams were full of her fears and she didn’t know how to handle everything. She couldn’t even talk to Kyle about it because he’d freak out on her.
He has been wanting to start a family with her soon as he learnt they had lost the first child. He had been ‘forgetting’ to buy condoms and emptying deep inside of her every time they had sex. He finally got his wishes and she was terrified.
“Oh-kay…? What’s going on with you?” He asked, following her to the lounge. They had done a great job into transforming Tracy’s apartment from the pink heaven she lived in to more neutral colours that accommodated Kyle as well. He lived in a black and white apartment, so Tracy knew he wouldn’t roll with living in a rose gold themed house. So, she was happy anyway to revamp her place. It was now their place. It had to look the part.
“Nothing… I just want to sit on this couch, eat whatever I can stomach and watch movies. You can join me if you want or you can go out. I won’t hold it against you.” She told him. By then she was already surfing through the movie collections and trying to see which one she wanted to watch first.
Kyle pouted, he pouted a lot when he was stunned, confused and just tongue-tied. And at that moment he was just stunned. Pregnancy was showing them flames.
Tracy’s mood swings were a little too much and he wanted to be there and be supportive but at the same time he was worried they might drift apart.
He went to sit next to her, if she wanted to watch some damn sappy movies, then that’s what he will do too. He had planned to cuddle with her but she shocked him when she didn’t welcome him on the same couch.
“Please sit on that couch. I want to lie down here by myself.” She didn’t want to be touched. She didn’t want him breathing literally down her neck with his warm breath. She wanted to be alone in fact, to be alone with the movie and her scary thoughts that were consuming her.
Kyle sighed and sat on the next couch. He looked at her and she was looking intently at the screen, without a care. But he loved her. He did.
She just wanted a breather from him. She wanted to just forget for a minute that she was carrying a human being inside of her once battered and butchered body.
She wanted to get lost in the land of fiction and Disney princesses.
As they watched the movie in silence, Kyle dozing off in the process, they were snapped out of the zone by Kyle’s phone ringing from the coffee table.
It was his little brother, Greyson.
“Hey Grey…” he answered the phone and walked to the kitchen so not to interrupt Tracy’s movie.
“Hey uhh Ky, can you please come to the hospital… Loraine is in labour and uhm… it’s not looking good. I need you. I am going crazy here… alone.” Greyson told him.
“I am on my on my way.” Kyle hung up.
“Babe… Grey just called, Loraine is in labour and he says there are complications. Are you coming?” He asked.
Tracy’s heartbeat accelerated. They have been waiting for this moment, Loraine has been pregnant and has been going through hell with the pregnancy. To hear that there were more complications during labour was terrifying.
So, terrifying she didn’t know if she wanted to go there or stay home. But staying home, meant she’d be blowing Kyle’s phone seeking updates while her mind raced wild.
No, she was going with. “Yes.” She stood up, switched the TV off and they both went to dress appropriately to go to the hospital.
“I hope everything goes okay. Grey didn’t sound too good.” Kyle mentioned as they settled in his car.
“Did he say what was wrong?” Tracy asked, her hands settling on her tummy. She didn’t have a bump yet, she was waiting impatiently for it.
“No, he just said it’s not looking good, I couldn’t even ask for more details, he sounded like he was crying.” Kyle filled her in.
Tracy wondered what could be so wrong. She silently prayed, asking God to protect both Lori and the child. She hoped and prayed nothing bad would happen to them.
