Chapter 5

I must have eventually drifted off to sleep because I wake up in the same clothes as the night before, I wait for what seems like forever for someone to come into my room. In my time of waiting, I admire the room. It is all the shades of cream and gold. There are large thick curtains that are hung on the bed and mirrors everywhere. I step off the bed the carpet feels incredibly soft under my feet. I finally give a sigh of relief. Looking at myself in the mirror I am so different from the ragged and ruined girl I was when they dragged me here, even with the messy hair and the wrinkled clothes. I walk over to the incredibly large windows and look out into the garden, the shades of green and blue make my heart flutter, I want to look out into that view admiring everything. I hear my door being opened and a man with a light blue jacket walks in. I jump back in fear.

"Hello darling," He says looking at me up and down. "I'm Ilya, your 'guide'" He spits the word guide as if it's a disease. "In better words your love guru, here to help you choose the right man," He says smiling, I notice his sickeningly blue eyes, he's a vampire. I look at him furrowing my eyebrows and shaking my head slowly.

"I'm sorry but isn't this a little... fast?" I ask trying not to break down in tears, no I will not break down I am stronger than this. "I don't need some man. I don't want to be a part of your world. I want to go home." I exclaim. Ilya gives me a blank stare rolling his eyes.

"The queens' death is inevitable, this is a precaution." He says offended. "There are just so many things we need to work on." He says sighing and putting a hand on his head dramatically. He picks up a strand of my chestnut brown hair and looks at it disappointed. "So much." He whispers to himself. This is so uncomfortable, I suddenly feel self-conscious. My mind begins racing through all the horrible possible outcomes of this.

"I don't need anything to be worked on." I snarl.  He's treating me as if I'm some stray dog that he's found.

"We will focus more on your signature style later, first some ground rules." He says dropping my hair and completely ignoring me.

"Rules?" I repeat going along with his little game.

"Yes, the first rule no fraternizing with anyone outside of the chosen bachelors." He says holding one finger up. "The second rule, be wary who you choose to spend your time with, get to know all of the bachelors before making a decision to eliminate someone." He says raising the second finger. "The third rule, do not have a child out of 'wedlock'" He says looking away in disgust.

"Is that such an awful thing?" I ask although that would never be one of my intentions, I don't want to be a mother at 21 and I definitely don't intend on getting that close to anyone.

"That bonds you to that person for the rest of eternity, vampires are very strict when it comes to the matter of family." He says his blue eyes gleaming. "Now, meet the bachelors." He says handing me an Ipad. I scroll through the pictures. They are all attractive, I notice that they all have bios under their pictures like its a dating app.

"Is this like a game?" I ask feeling slightly horrified. "Why do they all have bios?" I ask wrinkling my nose.

"Get off your high horse honey, this is for you to get to know a little bit about them when you meet them." He says rolling his eyes. I have a clear feeling that he doesn't like me.

"What even is your role as my guide?" I ask mirroring his glare.

"Making sure you pick the right man, blah blah blah." He says rolling his eyes and moving his hand in a circular motion.

"I think we're done here." I spit, and for the first time since I've gotten here, I feel a jolt of confidence.

"Yeah, whatever. Just look through that portfolio the first ball is tonight." He says and leaves the room.
