Chapter 1: Ties and Tequila
Kirishima POV
"Oi, come on we're going to be late!" Kirishima shouted, knocking on the bathroom door that Bakugou had locked himself in. He had been in there for what felt like years. "Bakugou!" He yelled again, smashing the door with his fists.
"I'm not fucking going." The response from his bestfriend behind the sealed door was so typically frustrating.'
"You are so, you agreed!" Kirishima belted the door again. "Come on, it's going to be fun. We will get to see everyone again."
Bakugou yanked the door open, causing Kirishima to jump back in a startle. For someone who was adamant about nit going to this reunion, he was dressed up beautifully in the grey and red themed suit Kirishima laid out on his bed. He crossed his arms, huffing in annoyance as Kirishima smiled looking him up and down. He'd chosen well.
"Dude, you look great!" More than great actually. He had to actively pull his away as to not touch him out sheer attraction.
"Shut the fuck up." Bakugou muttered, stalking past Kirishima and into the kitchen of their shared apartment. "I'm not wearing the fucking tie."
Kirishima knew better than to argue and considering he was already in the suit he was counting that as a win. Plus, he knew by the time they were leaving Bakugo would have the tie in hand, asking Kirishima to help him tie it. Capable, independent Bakugo couldn't even tie a tie. Kirishima laughed to himself at the thought, entering the bathroom to brush his teeth and style his hair. He looked in the mirror at his own suit which seemed to mirror Bakugo's somewhat, the red being more of a burgundy on his. The colour coordination may have been a little on the strategic side, liking how they looked in pictures when they matched. He could almost pretend they were actually a couple instead of just friends. Shaking his head, he pushed those dangerous images out of his mind and focused on his reflection.
"Hey Kirishima!" A lighter voice chirped from the entrance of the bathroom door. Kaminari poked his head in. "Can I borrow your cologne?" He asked, his head tilted.
Kaminari was the third roommate in their three bedroom apartment. Before him, the room had been reserved for workouts. He had moved in after a recent breakup with his girlfriend of two years, much to Bakugo's irritation. Kaminari didn't appear too upset post breakup, more seemingly excited to move in with a couple of his best bros, or so he told them anyway.
Kirishima threw him the bottle of his manliest cologne, and continued to brush, ignoring how Kaminari seemed to scent himself dramatically.
"Okay, how do I look?" He asked Kirishima, opening his arms and doing a little turn once it was applied. Forever the attention seeker. He was dressed in a fully black suit with a bright yellow tie. The stark contrast was quite flattering on the blonde and the yellow was definitely fun. Kirishima gave him a thumbs up before spitting his toothpaste out and washing his mouth. Kaminari, content with Kirishima's approval, dashed off to the kitchen to join Bakugou in a drink; something he was sure Bakugo was thrilled with.
Kirishima glanced at the time on his watch and groaned. They were definitely going to be late if he stuck to his usual signature hairstyle and his hair was looking straight enough that he decided to just chuck it up in a man bun, adding a different sort of elegance to his outfit. He glanced at himself once more in the mirror before giving off a small smile, pleased with his look, and made his way to join the others in the kitchen. He felt Bakugo's eyes on him as he made his way over to the bench and picked up his phone and keys. It certainly made his heart beat a little faster, even if he was imagining the sexual prowess behind the gaze. It wasn't as if he was completely at Bakugo's will... except that was a total lie. They'd been getting closer and closer over the last eight years and he would be lying if he said he didn't feel anything but friendship. Kirishima knew that Bakugo was difficult, hard to read and not exactly one hundred percent open with his feelings, but this just made Kirishima feel even more special knowing how to get around him. His poor gay heart couldn't take it sometimes.
"What?" He asked, throwing a smile over to his friend.
"Your hair isn't spiked." The blonde observed, eyes furrowed slightly.
"Good observation my explosive friend." Kaminari stated, clapping him around the shoulders. Bakugo tensed at the touch, making Kaminari laugh before he stalked off. "Come on! The taxi's here."
Bakugo glanced down to the ground and cleared his throat when it was just the two of them left. Kirishima, who had been watching Kaminari saunter off, looked back to Bakugo curiously. He then realized what the cough meant. In his hands was the black tie that matched his suit. Kirishima let out a small laugh before stepping over to him and fixing his tie around his neck. They were silent throughout the process as he methodically arranged the tie, Bakugo seemingly looking anywhere but his friend, with cheeks slightly tinged with pink. Kirishima finished tying the tie and brushed it down flush against Bakugo's chest. Their eyes met at the gesture and they remained silent as Kirishima's heart beat that little bit faster. He wasn't sure, but they had been staring at each other a lot lately and he couldn't quite figure out what Bakugo was thinking, but the tension always made him a tad uneasy.
"GUYS! COME ON!" Kaminari shouted enthusiastically from the door. "TAXI IS HERE AND THE PARTY IS WAITING!"
"Coming!" Kirishima shouted, taking his hand away quickly from Bakugo's chest. Bakugo grunted at the gesture and shook his head before following Kirishima to the door and into the taxi.
~~~~~
The party was their five-year reunion after graduating from UA. Many from their year had moved away across country or even internationally, one by one making their debuts. Kirishima and Bakugo had stayed in the metro area, joining the same agency, and after a year of working together decided to share their bills as well. It just made sense and neither had looked back with regret. Bakugo was higher in the ranks than Kirishima was, not that it bothered him. Bakugo had always been driven and had worked harder than anyone else to break the top ten. He was currently sitting at number three on the charts, whereas Kirishima had been a steady twelve for the last three years. Twelve wasn't a bad number and at least he'd been consistent.
The taxi ride was relatively quick, but it had a sense of awkwardness to it after their little moment in the kitchen. Kaminari didn't seem to note anything different about the air however, and was chattering away from the front seat about seeing his old classmates as if he didn't see half of them every other day. Kirishima tried to keep up with Kaminari's excitement, but felt quite distracted by the man sitting next to him. He found himself thinking a little too hard, frowning slightly as he tried to deduce what that damn look had been about. Bakugo, on the other hand, remained silent as he stared out the window in what appeared to be deep contemplation.
When they arrived at the venue they quickly made their way to the door, Kaminari pushing Bakugo from behind. Bakugo had a look of irritation of his face but allowed it to happen. Kirishima found himself laughing brightly, holding the door open for them to enter. They were greeted by an array of familiar faces because of course... they were late.
"Ahhhhhh!" A high-pitched squeal spread throughout the room and suddenly a whip of pink was hanging off of Kaminari's back with a drink in hand, trying not to spill. "My favorite trio!" Mina giggled, jumping down before pulling Kirishima into a bone crushing hug. She let go and rounded on Bakugo who stepped backwards quickly, fear imprinted into his eyes.
"No." He growled holding his finger up to stop Mina from advancing. Kirishima laughed as Mina ignored him and threw her arms around a stiff Bakugo, arms stuck to his side, looking nothing but uncomfortable. "I fucking hate you." He muttered as she let go with a delighted clap, sloshing her drink onto the carpet.
"Come on guys! Everyone is here and you're super late!" Mina smiled, grabbing Kaminari by the elbow and guiding him forward. He willingly obliged, eyes wide with excitement. Kirishima turned to Bakugo and smiled, slinging his arm casually around his shoulders.
"Come on man, it's going to be fun." Kirishima reassured, guiding his best friend into the party. Bakugo didn't resist, allowing himself to be tugged along. He only grunted in response. Kirishima stopped in front of the bar and ordered them three shots of tequila each. It was always a requirement to get through any night where Bakugo had to encounter Midoriya.
Kirishima watched in satisfaction as Bakugo downed all three shots before quickly ordering another three. Never one to back out of a challenge, Kirishima followed pace. They were certainly in for an interesting night if they were hitting the alcohol this hard.
"Cheers!" He held up his last shot to Bakugo who raised his in return before slamming it down.
"Cheers."
