Words flew around quickly and everyone was all eager to meet the fresh new batch of transfers in Ilseong Academy. After the rumor went out that there were representatives from top families it made them more curious than ever.
They wanted to know: were they good? Are they as crazy? Do they have what it takes? Different questions ran along the hallways of the private school. It was nothing new to them if the new transfers happened to be gambling addicts — no matter how good they were said to be, somehow, once you're in Ilseong, your life could either go in two ways; downhill or uphill.
Election was coming up in a few months and everyone was beginning to pull up sundry tricks under their sleeves. Everyone desired to aim for the Presidential spot, at least to lower ranks, to have that position is their chance to break free from the hierarchy that degraded them; ripped away from their freedom and dignity as a human being.
"Hyung! Is it true?" Chenle called out for his senior as he marched towards the two older boys.
"What do you mean, Chenle?" Jeno asked, leaning against the lockers, waiting for Mark to finish grabbing his things. "Hyung, I have no idea why you use your locker- it's not like you study or anything."
Mark shot the younger a glare, "Shut up, Jeno." He then eyed Chenle who stood tall, maintaining a calm sangfroid. "What do you want?"
Chenle scoffed, snapping his fingers in front of the older making him recoil for a bit and let out a hiss. "Wow, bold of you to talk back to me like that— I understand you're a senior, Mark. But let's face it, everyone knows how you got defeated by one of your relatives, what was his name again? Ah, right! Lee Donghyuck."
"Haechan." Both Lee's said in unison, they glanced at each other, petulance unmasked by the fire igniting in their eyes.
"Uhh, right, Donghyuck. Anyway, do know you're still in debt to Seo Narae." Chenle reminded, a smirk tugging up the corner of his lips. Running his fingers through his darkened black hair and bangs looming over his forehead. "Better start packing up or pay up unless you want to become Seo's pet for the whole year- or worst- your whole life!" Chenle cackled, amused by his own joke. Giving the two Lee's one last look before walking off, his hands tucked into the pockets of his black slacks.
Jeno heaved a sigh, shaking his head at the younger boy's sudden change in demeanor. The first time they met him, he was this cute, innocent little bean, but now, it was the exact opposite. He didn't know whether it was the school that changed the boy's behavior or his family. Either way, something in him changed. "Dude, everyone's starting to look down on you."
Mark scoffed, "You think I don't know?"
"You seriously need to pay up to Seorae— I mean... to Seo soon, including Haechan, or else... you'll not only turn into Seo's pet but also Haechan's."
"That's the problem, Jeno." Mark murmured, loosening his black necktie a bit. "My parents want me to use my own money."
"So? Don't you have a lot of money?" Jeno shrugged his shoulders, not seeing Mark's problem at all.
Mark rolled his eyes, "Where did you think my money went, huh?"
Realization slowly hit Jeno and his mouth formed an 'o'. Gasping, his eyes gradually grew wide. "You gambled it all? Already?"
"Mark-"
"I know. What happened to 'gambling is about how well we handle money'? Yeah— long gone. Thanks to Seo. And speaking of her, stop using her nickname." He hissed at Jeno, slinging his black back over his shoulder, and began walking, trying his best to ignore all of the dirty looks he received from fellow school mates.
Jeno pursed his lips into a thin line, following Mark from behind. He was well aware that he unintentionally used an old nickname to name the girl. "Yeah, sorry 'bout that. It's just... we were all—"
"Friends. Yeah. We were all friends."
"Are you really holding a grudge against her?"
"Her family threw away ours down the line, you know that Jeno." Mark glanced back to glare at the silver-blue haired boy.
Jeno nodded, "But it was her family— not her!"
"Jeno, if you miss Seo that much then go ahead! Leave my side and don't even bother coming back."
"I never said that." Jeno let out a breathy scoff, rolling his eyes in disbelief. "Look, I said it by mistake, I'm sorry and you know I'm not going to leave you behind alright? Now, let's just get to class."
"Isn't that Mark Lee?"
"I heard he lost to the Student Council
President and his relative!"
"Speaking of the relative, isn't he a new transfer?"
"Omg yes! I saw the others, not as exciting
as the new Lee and new Park!"
"Someone said they looked so handsome- hot even."
"I don't mind them beating me in a game, imagine him playing... hot."
"Y'all really switched from the Mark Lee to the rumored Lee Donghyuck quick."
"I mean- same."
"Lee Jeno should just leave him, he's nothing but a pet now."
Jeno sneered at the comments, sending out glares to those spreading out the rumors. "Jeez, people don't know when to quiet down huh?"
"Just leave them be, Jeno. I'm still thinking about how to pay up my debts." Mark began to think of solutions to his problem, albeit, he felt threatened by Donghyuck's arrival. It was sure that Donghyuck was forbidden to enroll in Ilseong Academy – that was what all of his relatives agreed on. But now he was here, and probably for the worst to happen.
"Well if it isn't Mark Lee."
Jeno and Mark glanced back, seeing a bleach-blonde haired boy they know as Na Jaemin. An eyebrow cocked up, he grinned slyly towards the two Lee's, "It's nice to see you two again."
"So I heard," he pauses, walking up close to the two boys. "I heard... from a little someone—"
"You mean Chenle."
"No." Jaemin hissed, "Just, someone. That Markie here lost to, not just his relative, but to Seo Narae. Impressive, Mark! As if a few years ago you were telling us how you will conquer this school."
Jeno clenched his fists, "Fuck off, Jaem."
"I'm not yet done, Jeno Lee," Jaemin stated sternly, eyeing back the said boy. He reached out to tighten Mark's necktie causing the boy to cough out. "Oops, too tight." He chuckled and loosened it a little as Mark openly glared at him. "As I was saying," he retrieved his hand before Mark could even swat it away, "I can't wait to see you become Seo's personal pet."
"Holy fuck, look outside!"
"Shit it's the new students!"
"Damn- those visuals."
"He looks so good."
"Nah- THEY look good."
"He can step on me, I won't mind."
Alarmed by the sudden chaos booming down the hallways, the three boys immediately strides towards the large windows, looking out to those who were entering the campus. Mark felt nervous as he recognized the boy with greyish-blonde hair styled up with gel. The honeyed skin that gleamed under the bright sun; his body fit into his new uniform — the black pants, leather belt, and white polo with the two top buttons undone; his necktie hanging loosely around his neck, the dark blue colored blazer which accentuated his top body. Everyone was gawking at him.
Feeling the stare on him, the new boy gazed up, unintentionally making eye-contact with the older boy causing chills to run down Mark's spine. Lips pursed into a thin line, he could only think of one thing,
"Lee Haechan is here."
