Without You
(Zosan) Feat Loulee & Satori
It was soft. The beeping in the room. The white walls and smell of lemons was nauseating.
Zoro sat next to Sanji taking his hand. It was his time. Zoro knew it too. Sanji had that sick addiction to cigarettes and it never let up. And it lead him to an early death.
"I hate this bed. Can we go home?" Sanji hissed.
"No cook, you gotta get better." Zoro grunted.
"I feel fine. The doctors can fight me all day about this."
"Your charts say otherwise."
Sanji frowned turning to Zoro. Clicking his tongue he cupped his cheek. Brushing his thumb over his prickly face.
"No one has taken care of you?" Sanji sighed. Zoro batted his hand away.
"I'm fine. I have you to worry about." Zoro hissed.
Sanji grunted gripping his cheek.
"I don't like your attitude. You and I both know I'm going to be fine." Sanji growled, "I've done it once I can do it again."
The door opened as Loulee and Satori stepped in. Sanji let go of Zoro's cheek and grinned to his children walking in. They went to Sanji embracing him or kissing him softly.
"Ah, my babies. Louis and Sam."
"Daddy. Not funny." Loulee grunted.
Sanji laughed to himself before coughing slightly. Alerting worry from his family. He cleared his throat.
"Here I'll go get you something to drink." Zoro stood.
"Loulee you should go with him." Satori said.
She nodded as Zoro and her headed out of the room. Sanji frowned looking to the door.
"You and I both know I don't have much longer." Sanji spoke.
"Yea. I think they know too." Satori sighed.
"Satori. Your father is losing his memory. Please. Keep an eye on him for me. I don't want him to forget you. Or me."
"Of course. I'll do what I can dad."
"Also. When you get home. I left something for you guys. It's under Zoro's side of the bed. A box. Open it when the time is right."
Sanji put his hand on Satori's.
"Just know. I love you guys. So. So much. No matter what happens. I'm here for you."
Sanji passed away that night.
Earning the family to grieve over the loss of a father. Lover. Best friend. And an amazing cook.
In his will Sanji left everything to the kids. The restaurant. House. Everything.
Expect.
His wedding ring.
Zoro kept them together. Sanji's ring fit perfectly on his pinkie finger. To keep there love together. Since they were made for each other. Zoro grew depressed. He lost it. He lost his will to live anymore. It didn't help he was perfectly healthy and. He could go on for another ten or so plus years.
"Daddy?"
Zoro perked up to Loulee and Satori stepping into the house. They smiled holding empty boxes. Zoro turned back to his lap. Satori and Loulee turned to each other then back to there father.
"Uh dad. I have something for you." Satori grinned. Satori sat next to Zoro with a box. Who just glanced to it then back to his lap.
"Please pops. We figured you'd want to have it then us." Loulee said sitting next to him.
Satori put the box in his lap. Zoro looked to the box and sighed. Humoring his children he opened the lid. He cocked a brow to the jar inside. It was a soft green with a fish on the lid. He pulled it out and sat back looking at the jar.
"It's dad."
Zoro turned to Loulee then back to the jar.
"Sanji..." Zoro muttered.
Frowning he held the small jar close. Loulee and Satori gave a sheepish smile to each other. But soon faded seeing there father sob softly.
"That should be me in there." Zoro grunted.
"Daddy left us knowing you'd be strong enough to handle life without him."
Zoro stood carrying the jar to his room. Loulee and Satori watched him place it on the dresser. Where Zoro seemed to have made a shrine dedicating it to Sanji.
"Awe pops." Loulee sighed.
She stood beside him taking his hand.
"I don't remember half of these pictures." Zoro muttered.
Satori turned to the bed and climbed under. Finding said box Sanji left behind. He pulled it out earning the families attention.
"Satori. What's that?" Loulee asked.
"Dad said he left this for us." Satori said.
"Lets open it in the living room." Loulee grinned.
They took there grieving father into the living room and opened the box. Inside sat items from the past. Pictures. And letters. Three addressing the three in the room.
"Dad. This one is for you." Loulee handed him the letter.
Zoro was hesitant before taking it. He ripped open the letter.
"I can't read this crap." Zoro hissed. Loulee looked over his shoulder to the cursive. She snickered softly plucking the letter from his hands.
"Loulee I don't know what is written in there. Be cautious." Zoro grunted.
"Dad trust me. I've seen worse." Loulee hummed, "To my dearest friend, lover, and my husband. I don't know how to write this to you. You and I both knew this day would come. Where one of us had to part without the other. I can tell you this, I already miss you. Even though your asleep beside me. I dreaded this day. Knowing everyday I was shaving off more and more of my lifespan. But. I loved being with you so much. There wasn't a day I regretted being with you. You were the best thing to happen to me. Besides our kids. But. You were always with me. No matter how I yelled and spat at you. You helped relieve my tension. We should be ashamed of the places we've done it-"
"Loulee you don't-"
"It's fine pops. We've done it. But. I wish there was more for me to write. But. We would be here all day. I want you to know. That even though I'm not there. I will still walk with you to the end of the world. And then past it. I love you so much, don't forget about me."
Zoro was handed the letter where he frowned. He folded up the letter and put it on the coffee table. Loulee and Satori read there letters while Zoro went through the box. Sanji had kept one thing from an important day they all spent together. Zoro pulled out a small brass ring.
"You've had this. All this time." Zoro muttered.
"What is it?" Satori asked.
"As you know, I've known your father since we were kids and. I gave this to him when I told him I loved him and wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. I got it from an old toy machine they had in the store. After all this time."
Zoro handed it to Loulee who smiled to the ring. He dug through the box some more pulling out concert tickets, receipts from there wedding, movie tickets. Until Zoro stopped.
"You son of a bitch." Zoro hissed.
"Daddy." Loulee huffed.
Zoro pulled out a small toy lion.
"When I get my hands on you, your dead twice!" Zoro growled.
"What's wrong dad?" Satori asked.
He didn't respond but wound up the toy. Then set it on the coffeetable to dance and play a soft tune. Loulee and Satori glanced to each other then back to the toy.
"This is. How we met." Zoro muttered.
"What about-"
"That's your fathers made up story."
Loulee and Satori blinked in surprise.
"Being older then Sanji by a whole grade. It was kind of hard to see him. But I had a few inside people to help me get his attention. I. I found out your father liked wind up toys. And being poor as I was. I didn't have any toys of my own. I worked for it. And I bought that toy. Little knowing your father stole it!"
"Why didn't you want to tell us that story?" Loulee asked.
"Your father felt that it was dumb. All this started cause of a toy."
"It's still sweet."
"Ha take that pops guess what were gonna tell our kids how you met now!" Satori laughed turning to the urn.
Zoro chuckled as the family soon began to pack up some stuff before leaving.
"Loulee. I'm going to keep that for a while."
Loulee looked to the box Sanji left. She smiled setting it on Sanji's side of the bed. Then they left letting Zoro get comfortable in bed.
"Who knew." Zoro muttered, "Going on without you would be this hard."
He sighed rolling onto his stomach and fell asleep.
"Zoro."
He grumbled.
"Zoro baby, come on wake up."
"I'm up. I'm up cook."
Zoro's eye snapped open as he turned to Sanji. He smiled lying in there bed. Sanji was as young as ever and peppered his face with kisses.
"I miss you so much." Sanji muttered.
Zoro pinned him down onto the bed with an embrace. Sanji chuckled hugging him back.
"Don't ever leave me like that again."
"Zoro..... I know about the gun in your nightstand."
"Don't worry about it."
"Zoro... what are you planning o doing-"
"I said DON'T worry about it."
Sanji frowned pulling back and kissing his forehead. Cupping his cheeks he squeezed them together.
"You are so much stronger than this. And if you live another ten years without me. So what. I'm not going anywhere. When your time comes. It comes. And I will be waiting here for you. I know it's hard. But. You've lived without me before. I love you Zoro. I will be here when your time has come."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
