What Are You So Afraid Of

It was another night. Sanji was curled up holding his ears and his head was stuck between his knee's with eyes shut tight. The storm outside was his greatest fear. And he was alone. He flinched every time the ground rumbled and shook his house. The lights in the house flickered before they all went out. Sanji whimpered clutching himself tighter. This was an rare case, Sanji being alone in a storm. The door slammed shut as Zoro walked in. His flash light flicked around the room.

"Sanji?!" Zoro called.

Sanji opened his eye, "I'm in here!"

Zoro went into the bedroom seeing Sanji curled up in front of the bed. Zoro crawled next to him and wrapped a blanket around him. He pulled Sanji into his lap holding him close. Sanji's face was buried into Zoro's chest while Zoro covered his ears.

"I'm here now, don't worry." Zoro hushed.

The storm growled again having Sanji whimper and clutch to Zoro tighter. He was always had to be there for Sanji. Leaving work early to help Sanji with this fear. Thunder and lightning storms was his worst fear of all. Zoro would drop everything to see Sanji and be there for him. When he was Zoro would stay up all night holding Sanji.

Sanji fell asleep on Zoro who still sat on the edge of the bed holding him. The lights came back on, Zoro looked to the ticking clock. It was three in the morning. He's been holding Sanji for about three hours in front of there bed. The sky crackled one last time before it moved on. Zoro sighed picking up Sanji and placing him under the blankets. Zoro pulled off his uniform and hung it up before going to turn off the lights. Sanji was awake. He looked to the empty spot on his bed. Zoro left his company just for a moment. Sanji wondered what Zoro was afraid of. He thought how Zoro was always there to take care of his fears with bugs that had flown into the kitchen. And random storms popping out of no where. Sanji had never been there for him when Zoro was scared. Maybe Zoro wasn't scared of anything. Zoro flicked off the light and Sanji sat up.

"Zoro?" Sanji asked.

"Hmm?" Zoro hummed making his way to the bed.

"What are you scared of?"

Zoro chuckled getting into bed, "I'm not scared of anything."

"Bullshit, you have to be scared of something."

"Fear isn't an emotion I have."

Sanji clicked his tongue resting back on his elbows rolling his wedding ring around with his thumb, "Sure or your too scared to tell me. Your one true love, your husband of almost three years."

Zoro laughed, "Me scared? Never."

"I'll find something that will scare you."

"I'd like to see you try."

Then they cuddled together going to sleep. But Sanji stayed awake glaring at Zoro's sleeping face. His face furrowed thinking over things that could scare anyone. He smirked kissing Zoro softy before going to sleep. Sanji took up that challenge. He went to the joke store. Buying a bunch of gags and a creepy mask that scared himself buying the thing. So Sanji waited at home holding a knife. He kicked at the ugly bloody sharp toothed rubber mask. He shuddered as it glanced back at him with its large grin. He sat in his and Zoro's rolly chair to the computer.

"It better be worth it." Sanji grumbled.

The door jingled, Sanji picked up the mask and pulled it over his head. He turned away from the door as Zoro walked in. After a moment Sanji spun in the chair turning to Zoro walking in looking up at Sanji then hung up his keys. He snickered glancing back to Sanji and crossed his arms. Sanji was waving the knife around like he was a swordsmen or a killer. Hovering the knife over his throat and slowly sliding it across. Like it was going to cut open his neck. Zoro cocked a brow with a smirk on his face.

"Nice mask where did you get it." Zoro asked.

Sanji growled taking off the mask. His hair now standing on end while his lips were pressed into a line. He crossed his arms and legs.

"How did you know it was me?!" Sanji spat.

"Um, I didn't. You just gave it away." Zoro said.

Sanji lit up with rage tossing the knife and mask on the floor swiveling the chair facing away from Zoro. If Sanji lit a cigarette he would be puffing out smoke. Zoro chuckled hanging up his coat and his hat.

"What's with you?" Zoro asked.

Sanji turned in the chair glaring at him them turning back to the living room. Zoro sighed going to the living room leaning over the chair. Sanji avoided eye contact, his face scrunched into a plan B. Thinking of what next to scare Zoro with. Zoro tilted his chin up having Sanji look up at him. He quickly stuck his tongue out at him before sticking it back in.

"I'll find out what your scared of." Sanji huffed.

"Good luck." Zoro smirked.

A Zoro leaned over and kissed his lips. They shared a sloppy kiss before Zoro pulled back running his fingers through Sanji's static hair. He licked his lips slowly earning a cocked brow from Sanji.

"I want a treat." Zoro purred.

"Oh?" Sanji asked.

"Yeah, you."

Sanji gasped as Zoro pulled him out of the chair and threw him over his shoulder. He took him into the bedroom shutting the door. Let's just say Zoro got his treat alright, but he got a few more then he had in mind. The next day Sanji had a small box with a mouse inside. He held it out with both hands looking away from the box. Each time it nudged Sanji flinched. He set the box in the bathroom, opening the lid and running out. Sanji climbed up on the counter in the kitchen. Zoro came in at the right moment. He hung up his keys, hat and coat before cocking a brow over to Sanji.

"Why are you on the counter?" Zoro asked.

"I locked a mouse in the bathroom." Sanji said.

Zoro sighed going into the bathroom. It was quiet, too quiet. Sanji started to hop down from the counter and poked his head out looking at the bathroom door. He was hoping Zoro'd scream, yelp, gasp, cry, nope. He came out with the box and a lid was still on top. He cocked a brow holding the box like it was no problem, it wiggled and scratched having Sanji jump back up onto the counter reaching for the closest object in case Zoro tried anything.

"Good try." Zoro chuckled.

He opened the box picking he mouse up. Sanji squealed grabbing the frying pan, Zoro chuckled putting the mouse back. Sanji huffed putting down the frying pan. Zoro put the box lid on and set it down. Sanji climbed off the counter, Zoro pinned Sanji there between his arms.

"What you gonna try next? Fake hand trick? Putting a rubber snake in my food? What about hiring people to mug me." Zoro asked.

"I give up, I guess your not scared of anything." Sanji sighed.

"Bummer, I was hoping to get more treats for ruining your plans."

Sanji pursed his lips pinching Zoro's cheeks and scolding him slightly. Once he was finished he sighed letting go of Zoro's cheeks and looked up to him. He rubbed his cheeks slightly pink now. Zoro smiled kissing him Sanji kissed back, they started to head into the bedroom leaving the mouse to naw through the box. Which Zoro had to find and take outside a few hours later.

As the following day arrived. Zoro went to work while Sanji went to get groceries for home. He was going to make a special dinner tonight, all of there favorites. Since after all it was there 3rd year anniversary of being married. Sanji was hoping tonight he would ask Zoro about adopting a kid and finally starting that family. Because Zeff wanted grandkids, and Sanji being his only son... It was his responsibility to help the old man out. Sanji was holding both of the bags checking off his list of the last items of food. He stood on the corner and pressed the button with his elbow. He smiled thinking of all what he was going to say.

"Zoro, I want to ask you something." Sanji frowned, "No then he will take it sexual."

He tried again.

"Zoro, honey can we talk about something?" Sanji frowned again, "No then he will think we're getting a divorce."

The light changed and Sanji crossed the street. But. It got slow, he slowly turned to the vehicle going through a red light. inching closer and closer to him until. There was a loud crumpling and screeching of tires. Sanji lied in the street bleeding and broken. People gathered calling the cops and 911.

Zoro got into work off his lunch break. He headed into the building holding the half of his sandwich from the Baratie he orders everyday. But once he got inside it was thick. Thick, and rich with silence, so thick you could cut a knife with it. Zoro glanced around to the few people he knew well. Koala having tears in her eyes and bit her lip. Sabo stepped in a moment later trying to find the words to tell him. A few of his co workers turned to Zoro. He stopped seeing the hurt and sadness in there eyes. Sabo took Zoro's arm and took him outside. Zoro glanced inside before to Sabo.

"Man it's pretty gloomy in there am I right?" Zoro smirked.

Sabo swallowed taking Zoro's hand, he had pain trying to find the words to tell him. He took a shaken breath clutching Zoro's hand. By this time, Zoro's smirk faded, he noticed the tears welling up in Sabo's eyes. If anyone had to tell him the news, it had to be Sabo.

"About an hour ago, we got a call a man was crossing the street and got hit by a distracted driver." Sabo said.

"And? Why are they looking at me like that?" Zoro asked.

"Sanji got hit by the distracted driver. His in critical condition at the hospital. I would of told you sooner but you weren't answering your radio. I also felt it would be better if I told you in person."

Zoro's eyes widened, "Wh-what?!"

"Sanji might die."  Sabo sniffled tears pricking the corners of his eyes.

Zoro felt his stomach swell and his heart race. He swallowed looking down at his shaking hands. He was scared, terrified to be exact. He fell to his knee's his eyes wide flicking to the concrete. His tears dripping down onto the ground. Sabo helped him up and took him down into his car. Flicking on his siren and going down to the hospital. Zoro still not sure what he was experiencing. He began to tremble more, his mind blanking out, his eyes welling up in more tears.

"Zoro, you have all the right to be terrified. We all are." Sabo said.

Zoro had found his fear. As they got to the hospital Zoro didn't even bother waiting for the car to stop he jumped out of a moving vehicle. He ran inside going up to the front desk with tears in his eyes.

"Where's Sanji Roronoa?!" Zoro cried, "Where's my husband?!"

"Sir, he went into surgery ten minutes ago. You can wait with the others."

Zoro turned seeing the crew, Zeff, a few workers from the Baratie, Mihawk, and his sister. Nami and Robin got up walking up to the trembling Zoro. They tried to calm him down, which helped. He sat between his father and Sanji's dad. Holding both of there hands.

"You know as well as I do he will make it." Zeff said.

"He has a strong will." Mihawk said.

After three hours of waiting in the waiting room. Law came out removing his mask.

"Roronoa?" He said.

Half the room stood up, Law sighed.

"Family only." He said.

Without any further words Zoro ran off pushing the doors open running down hallways looking for his last name.

"Sanji!" Zoro called.

He ran in a circle, Law grabbed his arm dragging him down the hallway and into a room. Sanji lied asleep in the bed, his heart monitor beeping softly as most of his body was wrapped up in bandages. The fear that grew in Zoro's stomach began to lighten seeing Sanji's face. Zeff sat on the end of the end of the bed.

"I saved the seat by the bed for you." Zeff said.

Zoro smiled sitting in the seat taking Sanji's hand. It was different, Zoro looked seeing his wedding ring wasn't sitting on his finger. It must of gotten lost in the crash. But it wasn't hard to replace, he looked to Sanji's sleeping form. He slightly smiled squeezing Zoro's hand.

"I'm here cook." Zoro said.

"I'm going to update the others. I'll be right back." Zeff said.

Zeff got up and left the room. Zoro scooted the chair closer to Sanji. He brought Sanji's hand to his lips kissing his scraped knuckles and brushing his thumb over Sanji's hand. After an hour Zeff came back and Zoro fell asleep. Sanji was awake brushing Zoro's head. He hummed softly running his fingers through his hair.

"He was worried, and scared." Zeff said.

"Zoro? Scared? Like Id believe that." Sanji said.

Zeff chuckled, "You better get more rest. You took a pretty big hit."

Sanji smiled, "I will eventually."

"You want something to eat? I'll go home and cook you a better meal then this hospital food."

"Can you make something for Zoro too?" Sanji asked.

"I will. Just rest up."

Sanji nodded as Zeff hugged him and left. Zoro yawned and sat up, startling Sanji with a jaw breaking yawn. He opened his eyes seeing Sanji sitting up. Zoro thought he was dreaming.

"Oh good your awake." Zoro said.

Sanji nodded, "I've been up for a while. My dad just left a little while ago. He told me you were scared. Like Id believe that."

Zoro's heart cringed, remembering why he was in a hospital. Why Sanji was laying in that bed. Why he felt worry and fear for the first time. Zoro crawled into the bed and straddled Sanji's hips. He hugged Sanji holding him tighter. Sanji winced slightly. Since he was still healing.

"I finally figured out what I'm scared of." Zoro whispered.

"Oh?" Sanji asked.

Zoro sat back cupping Sanji's face.

"I'm scared of losing you. You've been in my life for so long, I don't know what I would do with myself without you in it. I didn't understand the feeling of true fear until Sabo told me you were here. And I worried for hours in the waiting room to see that your okay."

Sanji's eyes welded up in tears and hugged Zoro. Crying on Zoro's shoulder while Zoro held him and sighed. He hoped this wasn't a dream, Sanji being awake made the fear and worry disappear. After a while Zoro calmed Sanji down and rested beside him. Sanji was curled up on his arm and nuzzled between his neck and shoulder. Sanji was asleep breathing softly on Zoro's neck. Zoro fell asleep. The next morning Zoro woke up first to find Sanji alseep still. He sighed and scratched his head, Zoro got up and walked to the door.

"Your not allowed to leave this room, you will get lost as soon as you step outside that door." Sanji said.

Zoro turned to Sanji adjusting himself in the bed. He winced before pulling the blankets up into his lap. He glanced to Zoro who still remained frozen. His breath hitched before he started to tremble again. It wasn't a dream Sanji was awake, and recovering.

"Sanji." Zoro muttered.

"Yes that's my name." Sanji teased.

Zoro walked to the bed and hugged him. Sanji groaned at the pain in his back adjusting himself in Zoro's strong hold. Sanji froze as Zoro took a sharp breath and his arms tightened around Sanji. He blinked looking to Zoro, his breaths were sharp and rugged. As he tried his best not to cry. But, the tears started to fall and a lump in Zoro's throat began to swell.

"Zoro? Are you crying?" Sanji asked.

Zoro pulled back wiping his eyes. Sanji smiled holding his head bring him down and kissed his cheeks. But Sanji pulled him back into an embrace and let Zoro finish. He cried yes, it was soft and sharp. Sanji stroked the back of his head humming softly as Zoro let it all out. The worry, the fear, the sadness, everything. Once Zoro was done he pulled back sniffling, no more tears threatened to fall. His eyes puffy and nose slightly runny. He sniffled looking to Sanji who smiled softly.

"Your such a softy." Sanji teased.

"I am not." Zoro sniffled.

Sanji chuckled, "But, don't worry I won't leave you. It's my job as your husband to take care of you. I wouldn't be doing a good job of that if I died. And, I couldn't leave you alone."

Zoro smiled, "Then I have nothing to worry about."

Sanji put his hand on Zoro's hand. He clutched the palm of his hand as Zoro wiped his eyes once more.

"Um, Zoro, c-can I ask you something?" Sanji asked.

Zoro looked up to him, "What's up?"

"I mean we have a little time, but I. I want to have kids, adopt, or go into some program, or. I don't know. I just get so lonely when your not home and I-"

Zoro chuckled pulling him into a kiss, "I'd love to, we will talk more about it when you get better. Got it?"

Sanji held out his pinky, "You promise?"

Zoro locked his with Sanji's, "I promise."
