Sunflower Brothers
A/N: I didn't do a ship for Luffy's birthday. But it's still cute.
For the past three years Luffy would buy a bunch of sunflowers and head to the cemetery. He did this every year on his birthday along with Ace's and some holidays. But today it was off.
The gate's of the cemetery was thrown open having Luffy purse his lips. He clutched to the flowers before stepping inside. He glanced around not seeing anyone but pursued on the path. He walked down many headstones, many crosses, and kind words engraved onto them. Luffy stopped and hid behind a tree noticing a figure over a grave. The grave he was going to.
Luffy furrowed watching the man brush away the leaves and the grass covering the headstone. Then watched the man with the top hat sit back on his heels. Luffy furrowed watching him pull out a bundle of flowers and placed them on the headstone. Then bent down over the headstone. He watched the man tremble and sob softly.
He stepped over to the man and stood behind him. Luffy saw that the gravestones of Portgas D. Rouge, and Gol D. Roger were uncovered as well. He furrowed as the blonde sat back on his heels and didn't turn to Luffy.
"Oi." Luffy said.
"Three years." He said, "You've come here for three years. You've grieved. You watched him die. But you still come here, bringing the same sunflowers. On your birthday, on his. Even on mine."
"Who are you?"
Luffy pushed back his hat as he watched the blonde wipe away his tears and stood. He turned to Luffy and removed his hat. Luffy looked up to the blonde's brown eyes. They were puffy and slightly red. But he greeted Luffy with a smile.
"I'm glad your still alive." He said.
"I don't know you." Luffy pouted.
"Monkey D. Luffy, "He started, "Portgas D. Ace. And if I do recall. You had another brother."
Luffy dropped the flowers, his eyes welling in tears looking up to the blonde.
"S-Sabo?!" He cried.
Then latched onto the blonde male and started crying. Sabo returned the embrace clutching onto his little brother. Sabo fell to his knees embracing each other with soft sobbing. The sun broke out shining down on the brothers who held onto each other for dear life. Sabo pulled away as Luffy sniffled with tears dripping down his cheeks and his lip trembling. He sniffled kissing Luffy's forehead before pulling back and smiling.
Luffy sniffled and grinned, "Where have you been? Ace and I have been looking for you everywhere."
Sabo shrugged, "I lost my memory when I was in a car accident a few years ago. Ace's death in the paper helped me remember. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you Luffy."
But Luffy's eyes weren't on Sabo. They were staring off in the distance. Tears flowed down his cheeks again having Sabo turn. Sitting before Ace's grave stone was a dove. It held a red large bead necklace in it's mouth. Before it dropped it on the gravestone and hopped away from it.
"Ace?" Sabo asked.
He held out his hand to the bird who chirped and hopped into his hand. Sabo scooped up the bird having Luffy watch the white bird cradled in his hands. Luffy smiled scratching it's head before it fluttered off. They turned back to the necklace. Luffy took it and placed it around his neck and smiled.
"Ace." Luffy sniffled.
"I guess Ace wanted us to let us know he's watching over us." Sabo said.
Luffy nodded before looking up to Sabo, "I miss him."
"I know, I miss him too."
They embraced once more when a soft breeze had Sabo perk up. He looked to the horizon and smiled.
"Don't worry Ace, I can watch over Luffy now." Sabo said.
