Not Meant to Be

"Lets run away and never look back." Zoro said.

Sanji cocked a brow, "But Zoro our soul mates? You're supposed to meet yours tomorrow."

"Fuck em. You and me are meant to be together. I want you and only you. Besides, they are just strangers to us. We've known each other for years, and know every little deep dark secret of each other. Wouldn't you want that instead of some nobody?"

Sanji looked to the 300+ months written on his wrist. He looked up to Zoro and smirked before holding out his hand.

"Fuck em."

It's been years now. Zoro and Sanji have been on the run from there so called soul mates for years now. For about a decade now, since the two of them turned sixteen to the age of twenty six. It was all fun and games until they released the numbers on there wrists began to count down more and more everyday. They even tired to pull off the number, but. That didn't go over well.

Sanji sat in a small hotel room. He looked to the timer on his wrist. Slowly counting down the days, hours, minutes, and seconds. He sighed falling back against the bed clutching onto his wrist. The bathroom door opened soon later, Zoro stepped through. He turned to Sanji shutting his eyes and holding his timer. Zoro frowned to him as he wrapped a towel around his shoulders. He approached Sanji and sat beside him. He turned to Zoro with an upset look on his face.

"I know, but it's the only way we can be together." Zoro said.

Sanji looked to the ceiling, "It's unfair."

"I know, I know."

Sanji took his hand looking to the time on his wrist. They didn't match. Weren't even close. They loved each other so much, they should of been together. Life was unfair. They just wanted to be together, they were meant to be. They were. So they thought. So they ran, ran away from there so called soul mates. Knowing they could get away and be together. They just, had to keep running.

"Sanji. Sanji. Wake up." Zoro said.

He grumbled waking up, Zoro had both their backpacks on his shoulder. Sanji grumbled sitting up and putting on his clothes. Zoro took his hand as they escaped out of the window before getting into there car and driving off. Zoro took Sanji's hand looking to the timer. The days had been cut in half, knowing his soul mate was going to find them soon. Zoro kissed his fingers before he started the car and started their way off to the next town. Where they had reached a small diner in a little town. They stretched before getting inside as Zoro checked their times. Days were added onto the clocks, Zoro sighed in relief sitting back in the booth.

"We've got some time to spare, so how about after breakfast you and me finally have some time to ourselves? Hm?" Zoro purred.

Sanji turned to him, "Hm? Oh sorry, I. Nevermind."

Zoro furrowed, "What's the matter?"

"The waitress over there, she's muttering about us."

Sanji pulled his sleeve down hiding his timer. Zoro glanced to the two waitresses who whispered to each other softly. He growled grabbing Sanji's hand and taking him out of the restaurant and down to a motel. Sanji sat quietly down on the bed as he looked back to his wrist. 3 days, 10 hours, and 31 minute. He sighed as Zoro watched him.

"Sanji?" Zoro said.

The blonde perked up to him, "Yes?"

"You love me don't you?"

He smiled, "With all my heart."

Relief washed over Zoro as he sat next to Sanji and they flopped onto the bed. Curling up together and soon fell asleep.
Sometime in the middle of the day, Sanji woke up. He awoke to Zoro's snoring, along with his jaw agape, drool dripping down his chin, and his eye flicking behind his lid. Sanji lifted Zoro's wrist looking to his time. 4 days, 11 hours, and 31 minutes. Sanji placed his arm back on his hip before curling close to him.

"It's so unfair." Sanji muttered.

Zoro grumbled reaching over to Sanji's side. Finding it empty. He snapped his eyes open before glancing around the room. He sighed seeing Sanji buried in his hands sobbing softly. Zoro scooted closer to him pulling him close and hushing him. Sanji pushed him away before standing.

"Oi, what's wrong?" Zoro asked.

"I'm leaving." Sanji said.

"Your what?!"

Sanji turned to him, "Zoro I love you to death, but I can't be running from my soul mate. They are out there looking for me and I can't do that to someone. Maybe I can convince them I'm supposed to be with you. Then we can finally be together without this guilt in my heart."

"I won't let you!"

"We're not meant to be together Zoro. Our timers would of hit zero by now. For these past ten years. But they kept ticking as we ran. Now I'm ready to face my problems and convince them that I'm supposed to be with you."

"And what if they don't? What would you do then? Leave me here to run by myself?"

"If push comes to shove."

"Sanji. Do you even know what you're saying?! We ran for ten years for you to just throw it away? I won't let you do this!"

"Try to stop me."

Sanji got up and started to walk out of the room as Zoro was going to chase after him. His wrist was bound to the headboard. He growled trying to get out of it before he slipped out of the rope and bolted out of the room with their backpacks. He went to the parking lot to find their car. Zoro growled looking around the motel before he got into the car and started it. He looked to his wrist, 4 days, 9 hours, 6 minutes, and 40 seconds. He clutched onto the steering wheel before pulling out his phone and tracked Sanji on his phone.

It took days, Zoro didn't sleep determined to find him. The days shaved one by one until Zoro was going to meet his soulmate in less than an hour. Zoro stopped to a small town where Sanji had no longer moved. It was dark and very erry. It looked deserted. Zoro pulled out his flashlight and was about to flick it on but. Stopped when he heard voices, he hid in an alley as Sanji and a shorter woman walked out from the tavern.

"Please understand, I can't be with you." Sanji said.

"Oh I understand." She spoke.

Zoro perked out from the alley, Sanji was holding the woman's hand. A wide grin on his face knowing she understood.

"I understand perfectly." She said.

"Thank you."

Zoro stepped out, "Sanji."

Sanji turned to him as they smiled to each other before embracing. Clutching onto each other before pulling back and kissing softly. They pulled back softly smiling, Sanji cupped his face.

"I told you it would work out okay."

The sound of a gunshot was fired as Zoro winced. He held onto his hip as they turned to the women. She cocked the gun once more pointing it at Zoro.

"You broke my heart, let me break yours." She said.

She fired once more as Zoro growled slumping to the ground. Sanji panicked as the woman left, he pulled off his coat pressing it to Zoro's open wounds. Blood was pooling on the ground, soaking through Zoro's cloths and Sanji's jacket. Tears welded in Sanji's eyes as he pressed harder.

"I should've listened to you. It's all my fault I-"

"Sanji." Zoro panted.

He turned to Zoro, he rummaged in his coat pocket before weakly holding out his arm. Sanji took his hand as Zoro put the item in his hand. Then slowly pulled his arm away. Sanji gasped softly as he hiccuped covering his mouth while tears streamed down his cheeks.

"I. I wanted to marry you whe. When we got far. Enough." Zoro said.

"We still can you just gotta hang in there. I'll call an ambulance."

"Alright."

"Can you hang in there for me?"

"I think I could. Use a kiss."

Sanji smiled, "of course."

Sanji kissed him softly before pulling back. Zoro smiled as his eyes were still shut.

"Zoro?!"

"I'm still alive, just. Resting."

Sanji started to call the ambulance giving what he could before turning back to Zoro. Sliding on the gold ring and taking his cold hand. He began to rub his hand against his cheek watching Zoro's chest rose and fell. It began to get more and more shallow.

"Zoro, where should we get married at?" Sanji asked.

He gave a weak smile, "A meadow, where. We'd look over, the mountains."

"I'd like that. And for you to be alive."

"I'm not. Gonna die."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

Zoro cracked an eye open to him, he smiled softly before shutting his eye.

"I. I'll always love you."

"As will I."

Sanji perked up to the sound of sirens, he turned to Zoro shallowly breathing.

"I'll go get the ambulance. You stay here and be alive okay?"

"Ok."

Sanji kissed him before flagging down the ambulance, then came back to Zoro. He grinned taking his hand. But. Something was wrong. He was limp, and very cold.

"Zoro?" Sanji said.

There was no answer. Sanji held him as tears swelled in his eyes. Then. He broke. Crying onto Zoro's shoulder. Holding his limp body, clutching onto him. The paramedic's helped Zoro onto a gurney with Sanji. They raced to the hospital while they tried to bring Zoro back. But. It was too late, he lost a lot of blood.

"He was your soul mate huh?"

Sanji shook his head, "He was much more than that."

"Well both of your timers are at zero."

Sanji snapped to his wrist, seeing zero straight across, then noticed Zoro's was the same.

"Oh Zoro...."
