CHAPTER SEVEN!
ALEJANDRA COVERED HER mouth as a yawn burst. She didn't sleep well at all the night before— she was annoyed. Diego had found out her plan to make him jealous, but she tried to forget that he knew it, and focused on the song that Federico had sent her. He had also sent her the backing track and she studied it all night, only to realize when her first yawn came through was at four in the morning, and she had her first class at nine.
So she skipped that class to sleep in— and she was still tired.
"Ale? Are you listening?" Maxi tried to catch her attention. Alejandra jumped when she saw Maxi's hand waving in front of her face.
"I'm sorry, Maxi. I wasn't listening. I was up all night rehearsing for the duet with Federico, I didn't sleep well afterwards," Alejandra spoke. "I'm sorry."
"We can do this later, if you have time," Maxi responded. "You're so tired, you might just give Ludmila the entire song."
"Over my dead body," Alejandra stated. "I just need something to eat or drink and I'll be good. I'll be back, if anyone comes in, don't play anything for them. It's supposed to be a group decision."
Alejandra stepped out of the classroom and glared at Ludmila as she was talking to Federico. Did Alejandra like Federico? Of course, it was easy to like him and he was very easy on the eyes. Ludmila must know what she was missing.
"Pablo said you sent the lyrics to the person you chose for the duet, but I didn't receive anything, Fede," Ludmila said.
"That's because I didn't—"
"Fede, there you are!" Alejandra interrupted. "I got the lyrics last night and the song is amazing, did you write it all yourself?"
"What song?" Ludmila questioned.
"The duet," Alejandra answered. "Oh, I wasn't supposed to say anything, was I?"
"I was just on my way to tell Pablo that you accepted the offer," Federico told Alejandra. "Then we can meet after your last class and head to the studio."
"Yeah, sounds like a plan," Alejandra smiled. She glanced at Ludmila, who was glaring at the brunette. "Oh, Ludmi. Maxi and I were waiting for you to listen to the instrumentals he has been working on. We only have the room for a few more minutes, so time is of the essence. I will see you later, Fede." Alejandra entwined her arms with Ludmila, and lead her to the to the room Maxi was in. Diego had joined. Alejandra's smile dropped, then her phone beeped.
Unknown
Unknown: it's Federico. Violetta gave me your number. I never asked when your last class ended.
Alejandra: at two. I have short day today.
Federico: great! I'll meet you at the entrance at two. see you later.
"This is important. You don't need to keep your eyes on your phone all the time, Alexandra," Ludmila stated. She had a knack for saying people's names wrong whenever she could.
"This is also important," Alejandra stated, waving her phone. "It's not everyday you can record a duet at a real recording studio. I can't believe he asked me."
"It's not that unbelievable," Diego commented, a hidden meaning in his words. "You do something for a guy and he'd give you everything."
"Let's focus on the music now," Maxi interrupted. "Have you guys worked on the lyrics?"
"I don't know why you're so obsessed with who I talk to. If you don't want me to talk to other guys, maybe you shouldn't have ended things," Alejandra spoke up.
"Are you fucking crazy? You're the one who ended things just because I didn't say—"
"You're right. But what's the point in dating someone you don't see yourself having a future with. You were just going to string me along. I should've listened to everyone when they said you were no good."
"Well you can keep sleeping with guys to get what you want," Diego said. Then he realized what he said.
"I think we're done for the day," Maxi stated. Ludmila looked between the two exes, her eyes wide.
"You can go fuck yourself, Diego," Alejandra blurted, before storming out of the classroom.
"I want a different group, and if you don't give me a different group, I will quit the studio and tell everyone I know that you overwork the students and—" Alejandra burst into the teacher's lounge. Pablo was busy talking to Beto, but Beto had a class so he had just left when Alejandra opened the door.
"What is going on now, Alejandra?" Pablo questioned. He sat on the edge of the table.
"I am either going to quit the studio or you're going to place me in a different group. Or just take me out of the show completely, but I will not going back to my group for this assignment."
"You're not always going to be friends with the people you work with—"
"I understand that," Alejandra interrupted. "But you have placed me with the worst person imaginable who is very difficult to work with— and it's not Ludmila! I'd rather work with twenty five Ludmilas than Diego."
"This is about Diego?"
"No. It's about Maxi— of course it's about Diego, have you been living under a rock? It's like, the theme is friendship, but with this specific group, it's more of a hate ship, enemy ship or whatever!"
"I selected the groups before the last showcase. It would have worked before the last show? Would it not?" Pablo questioned. "And there's no changing the groups, every group already has their music and lyrics finished. There's no point in switching anyone around."
"Okay, then I choose to fail this assignment," Alejandra stated. "I should have a say in this, because I don't feel comfortable working with Diego and if my discomfort is ignored it can be detrimental in the future."
"I can't promise anything, but I will see what I can do," Pablo said. "You should head to your next class. And if you do decide to quit the studio, you won't be able to record with Federico, it's only available for On Beat students."
