Predictions

Lindsey and I make love for hours and by the end, we are both exhausted. We lay side by side and he kisses my knuckles. He's drifting off to sleep, I hear his breathing evening out.

"Linds...?" I ask into the silence. I've been thinking and he can hear that in the tone of my voice.

"Yes, angel" He slurs a little.

"Never mind, you're sleepy."

He sits up, propping pillows behind him, eyes half shut. "No, you wanna talk. Let's talk. I'm awake." He smacks his cheek and I giggle.

"Are you sure?" He nods with a yawn. "Well...you said 'she' earlier."

"What?"

"She, like when I jokingly said I--"

"Oh, right. Yeah, so?"

"Do you think it's a girl too?" I ask and he is suddenly awake. He turns to me and we are almost completely face to face.

"Wait...you think it's a girl?" he asks and I nod. "We could have found out but we chose not to. We wanted the surprise."

"I know...but I don't know, I just feel..." My hands find my belly and he smiles.

"Me too."

"Sometimes I have dreams about her. I imagine what she will look like all the time."

"I always hope she will look like her mother. You are so beautiful Stevie and I can just imagine a carbon copy of you running around. Your big brown eyes, your little button nose and pouty lips."

"Well, I always hope she will look like you. Curly dark hair, those incredible eyes..."

"If one of us doesn't get our way, I guess we will just have to try again." he says casually and I nudge him. "What, you don't think that's a good idea?"

"Not while my back is aching because the baby is laying on a nerve, no." I chuckle; there is truth to my statement. I can only focus on one at a time but the idea of more children with him isn't a bad one.

"I'm just happy we're doing this together. Things are finally going right for us."

"They are"

"And I want to float on this high for as long as I can. I haven't been this consistently happy in so long and I know it's because I have you in my life now, for good"

"I don't remember the last time I was this happy. I know I've been whining about my tour and how much I miss performing but I would miss you too and I think this baby is the best possible reason for not touring."

"I think so too. You know, I still haven't taken you shopping."

"That's right, you haven't."

"Maybe tomorrow morning we can hit all the shops, have some lunch and come back here for a little...alone time."

"That's a great idea" He kissed me passionately, tangling his skillful guitarist fingers in my hair, almost massaging my scalp.

"I love you"

"I love you too" He kisses me a final time, arranging his pillows for sleep. I lay down as well, his arms wrapped around me as we eventually both drift off.

The next morning, Lindsey is up bright and early. He makes me a cup of tea and brings me a light breakfast of eggs and toast in bed. I sit up, stretching my stiff back and he smiles at me.

"Morning, beautiful"

"Good morning, baby. Are you sure you don't want any?" I ask having already started to eat.

"No, no, it's all for you. You need your energy."

"You're so good to me. Have you already eaten?"

"I have a little while ago. I didn't want to wake you if you needed a little extra rest."

"You amaze me, you know that?"

He smiles at me. "I was able to get an appointment at a show room downtown to order the furniture for the nursery. I saw their little catalogue and it looked promising."

"Thank you. I can't wait."

"Then we can get some bedding and clothes...anything you want."

"Pink?" I ask and he chuckles.

"Let's stick to neutrals for now. We could be way off and be having a boy."

"I don't think so." I shake my head and eat another forkful of eggs. "It's impossible for it to be a boy."

"It's not impossible, Steph. We do have a 50/50 chance after all."

"I guess but the way I feel..."

"The way we both feel and I'm not saying I don't trust your instincts, I just don't think a little boy would appreciate going home in a frilly pink dress." We both chuckle. "I guess we would have ammo to embarrass him in front of his future girlfriend."

"Oh no, I can't hear this! I can't imagine our little baby dating! That's too much!"

"I'm sorry."

"But fine, no pink yet but as soon as we see her and we find out for sure this baby is a girl, I'm going out and buying everything I can get my hands on in pink."

He leans over and kisses my hair. "I wouldn't think you'd do anything different. I'm going to let you finish eating, get dressed and maybe you could meet me downstairs in an hour?"

"You're not going to keep me company?"

"I gotta make some calls."

"About what? Please don't tell me you're thinking of going into the studio right now."

"Wouldn't dream of it, it's just...important."

"You haven't found a beautiful, slim, tall model to hang out with while I'm getting fatter by the day, have you?"

"You're being silly. All I want is you."

"I know and thank you for saying so."

"I will try to make it quick."

"Thank you"

Lindsey leaves and I finish my breakfast. I shower quickly and go to my closet to choose an outfit. I can't decide so I walk the house with two different options, looking for my husband. As I get closer to the kitchen, I hear him talking to someone. I can't make out at all who it is.

"No, no...she doesn't know at all and I don't want her finding out so don't tell her anything" he says and I frown. He laughs. "Right, exactly. Sunday...three pm. I will have to make something up, send her on an errand or something. Maybe I can get Christine to distract her, she keeps talking about doing brunch again....right, anyway, she should be ready soon so I can't talk much longer. Okay, love you too. Bye."

Tears well up in my eyes and I feel every emotion in the book except happiness. Who was he talking to? I go back upstairs and choose an outfit at random, pat away my tears and work on my makeup. Not long after, I come back down and see Lindsey in the living room reading a magazine in his big leather chair.

"You ready to go, sweetheart?" I simply nod. "Are you sure? You seem..."

"I'm fine, let's just go."

"Well, alright." he says. I'm being sharp and I know he senses it but after what I just heard, how could I not be?

A/N: I know it's supposed to be totally cute and sweet the whole time but how about a teeny tiny amount of drama? Don't hate me!
