(The Rise of King: Turn 2) Meet the Crew
*Ring! Ring!*
The sound of the bell signaling class to be over wailed throughout the school. Afterwards, an announcement was made over the intercom.
"All students, please make your way to the concert hall for an assembly."
I turned back to Mrs. July as signaled for is to go. I followed the crowd of students since I didn't actually know where exactly the concert hall was.
I could still hear some people talking about me, but I didn't let it get to me. Eventually we made it to a massive room with a stage and enough seats that could hold the entire student and then some.
I took a seat as I put my attention towards the front. A single podium, and a banner with Point Academy's Tankery Emblem on either side.
Two individuals walked on stage, both of them looking familiar. One of them was Rachael from earlier. The person with her was the guy bring attention to the Tankery Team outside the entrance, Rod Benson if I'm not mistaken. The two walked towards the podium, with Rachael taking the mic.
"Hello everyone, I'm sure most of you know as to why this assembly was held." Rachael said, taking a pause before continuing, "I am Rachael Arisato, vice commander of our Tankery Team. The 56th Tankery Tournament has been announced to start next month, with the match selections on the 15th."
I quickly calculated the length of time before the match selections. It was the 2nd of October, and it seems that the Tournament would be held after Halloween.
"In the next month, the Tankery Team will be working hard to be prepared for the upcoming Tournament, and we will be taking in new members up until the match selections."
Rachael finished by bowing, and Rod Benson took the podium.
"Hello everyone! For those who don't know me, which I doubt," he chuckled a little, which earned the groans of the majority of the student body, "I am Rod Benson, the overall commander of Point Academy's Tankery Team. Like Rachael said, we will be accepting new members until the 15th. I hope I see you there!"
Rod walked off from the podium, which I was grateful for. Something about him makes me irritated at the sight of him.
The assembly then went over other things such as club budget cuts or increases, and something about a Halloween dance.
As the assembly came to a close, people started heading out to eat as it was finally lunch. I walked out of the concert hall to be met by another crowd of students by a bulletin board. I walked through the huddled students with relative ease as they sort made a path for me.
As I got closer to the board I saw a sign up sheet for the Tankery Team. I pondered on the thought of joining Tankery again, but I was still unsure.
I decided to just leave the board and try and make up my mind later on. I can't think about something like that on an empty stomach.
I reached the Cafeteria to find it looking pleasantly normal. No extravagant décor, the food didn't look like someone spent years on preparing and plating it, and as I walked up to where the food was ordered, the prices were pretty reasonable.
However, it seemed that quite a lot of food was already taken by the other students. I really should've packed my own lunch now that I think about it. I tried to find anything to eat until I set my eyes on a single short baguette.
"Should've come here earlier." The Lunch Lady said.
I was certain that a single baguette wouldn't get me through the day without going hungry. It may satisfy someone else, but my metabolism wouldn't be up for eating something so light, and it was all that was left.
"I'll take it."
After paying for the bread, I walked out of the Cafeteria since there wasn't really any space to eat peacefully, and I doubt anyone would be comfortable with me sitting in close proximity with them.
I roamed the halls while eating the bread. I wanted to get a feel for the school's layout so I wouldn't get lost. Eventually I found myself by the same bulletin board as earlier. The Tankery Team sign up sheet was still there, with plenty of names already there. I noticed that there were other pages underneath, with names going down to the fourth.
I left the bulletin board alone and continued walking around the school. One room stuck out for me, the Chess Club Room. I couldn't help but smirk, I was always great at Chess, it's one of the reasons that made me such a great commander back at Britanica.
I contemplated going in, but maybe no one was inside. That thought was put to rest as I heard voices inside the room. I decided to knock on the door to signal my presence.
"Come in!" A male voice said.
As I walked in, I saw four individuals, all guys, each having a game against one another.
The one that answered my knocking earlier spoke first, "You don't look familiar." He looked me over a bit more before continuing, "You must be the new student."
I sighed, "Yeah, I'm Avery Capelli."
"Nice to meet you Avery, I'm Johnathan, but you can just call me John." He said as he reached out his hand, gesturing for a handshake.
I took his hand shook it firmly. "Nice to meet you too." I said.
John turned back to the other guys and started introducing me to each of them, "The one with the brown hair is David, the blonde is Kevin, and the one with glasses is George."
"Nice to meet you." David said.
"A pleasure." Kevin replied.
"I hope the school has been somewhat satisfactory for you?" George said.
I shrugged at George's question, "It's been alright, could be better."
"Don't let those false rumors get to your head," George said, "You seem nice enough."
"I'm sure they'll die down after a while." I said, "Anyways, you guys are the Chess Club?"
The four guys answered simultaneously, "Yup!"
"Well, we're the regulars." John stated.
"Regulars?" I asked, curious as to why no other members are here.
"Yeah, Chess Club is what we call a 'Secondary Club' here." John explained, "Meaning you could come here without actually having to sign a form or sign up."
"So anyone can come here." I said
"Yup, we're just the ones who come here often." Kevin said, "Everyone else is probably busy with joining the Tankery Team."
"Why don't you join?" I asked.
David sighed, "We would, but in case you haven't noticed, we're the laughingstock of the League." David said, "We have the money, the tanks, and the skills to win, but thanks to our dimwitted commander, we're constantly being laughed at."
They did have enough money to buy and maintain it's tanks, with enough left to buy another school's worth of tanks, but Rod Benson was a terrible commander. He was predictable, static and showed no signs of improvement ever since he became overall commander.
George chimed in, "If we had a better commander, then we'd consider joining."
And just like that, I had made up my mind.
"So all you need is a competent commander you say?" My expression changed slightly to show a smirk, "Then you're in luck."
The guys looked confused, with John speaking up, "What are you talking about?"
I chuckled before answering his question, "I'm talking about taking the position of overall commander for myself."
A/N: Time for things to get a little interesting...
