Bnha AU - Hero!Megan x Villain! Gladion
A/N: Well, the people have spoken. Here's my seriously long BNHA AU oneshot. I was probably going to post it, anyways...
But anyway, here are what our heroes (And Villain) look like before we get into the story
Also, I've changed up the ages slightly. Now Gladion is three years older than Megan, who I've made the same age as her friends.
Well, without further ado. Here.
A heroine dressed in black and silver watched as civilians rushed past, her eyes darting around for anyone lagging behind or in need of assistance. Sweat formed on her brow as the city quickly turned into ruins and rubble, hoping and praying she could evacuate everyone in time so she could help her fellow heroes with this catastrophe.
She hadn't seen anything like this...
Sure, she was still a pretty recent hero who hadn't been on many dangerous missions like this, but you'd think you would at least see something as graphic an horrible as this on TV or something.
Nope.
Damnit, where was a Number 1 hero when you needed one.
Finally, the last civilian was ushered to safety, giving the hero a moment to let out and take some air.
"Nullify. Nullify, do you copy?"
Ah, jeez... spoke too soon.
Nullify sighed and pressed a finger against her earpiece, still looking around for anyone left behind "Snow-cloud, I can hear you loud clear."
A sigh of relief could be heard on the other side. Snow-cloud had been Nullify's best friend since they were in kindergarten, and now they were fighting crime together. Pretty cool, but Snowy always worried about her friend when she went off alone.
"Where are you right now? Is the evacuation complete?"
"Affirmative, all civilians have been cleared from my area. Where are you right now?"
"Oh- uh- right. We may have found the source to all the explosions- well, Windsurf did. Apparently he saw some strange yellow tentacles or something through the window of the radio tower while he was searching for anyone in distress." Snow-cloud explained "We're heading there along with Blaze right now, and we're going to need you to do the same."
Nullify nodded "Right. Though, you may need to hold whatever the threat is off until I get there. I'm quite a ways away from the radio tower."
"Just get here as soon as possible."
"Roger."
"Oh!" The female hero began in a squeak "And before I forget."
"Yes?"
"Stay safe, Megan..."
The female's worried voice made Megan's heart tighten a little bit. Sure, they were ruthless heroes, but they were still people with emotions. With a small smile she returned the gesture.
"You too, Lillie..."
---
"Blaze, we need help breaking down this door!"
Said hero turned around instantly, the tips of his hair slightly singed from getting a little too cocky with his quirk. Not the most heroic action... He ran over to Snow-cloud and Windsurf with his fist at the ready
"Stand back!" He demanded with strain, allowing his comrades to back away from the door before activating his quirk; Fire fists. Blue flames danced around his arm all the way to his raised fist, enlarging it until he had an ember limb twice the size of his regular arm. With a grunt he smashed his fist into the door, causing it to fly off its hinges and smack into the wall on the other side.
"Good job, buddy!" Said the ever happy voice of Windsurf as Blaze retracted his arm and his quirk. Like Snow-cloud and Nullify, the two boys had been friends since childhood.
Blaze rolled his shoulders back, feeling a satisfying pop and sighing before taking the lead "Come on! Those villains won't catch themselves!"
The other two nodded "Right!"
The three of them began to sprint one by one through the door into the next room, however they were stopped by... blonde tentacles?
No, blonde hair. It swayed like a bunch of serpents as it blocked the door to the staircase, stopping the heroes from going any further. It seemed to be coming from a crack in the floor...
"I'm afraid you won't be going any further, heroes."
They flinched.
Slowly, they turned their heads around only to see a tall dark figure dressed in black standing in the doorway they just came from. His hands were stuffed in his pockets, and a hood was covering his head to hide his identity. However, something was poking out from under the hood, stretching down to the floor and through a crack undoubtedly made from the shock of an explosion.
Hair.
The man scoffed as his hair retracted back into its original form, which was styled as multiple strands which covered the right side of his face. His chin shot up as he gave the other three a mocking smirk, his hood shadowing any part of his face above his nose as he stared at them.
"It's the end of the line for the three of you."
It was pretty clear to Windsurf and Blaze that this man was a villain, however for some reason Snow-cloud thought different. This man... She knew she'd seen and heard them before, but where? And why was she so against attacking him, he's a villain isn't he--
"Look out!"
She was swept up a millisecond before two hair strands slammed down on her, before being placed down by Windsurf who held her shoulders.
"This isn't the time to be spacing out, Snow-cloud. That dude is scary enough with his hair tentacle things, and he hasn't even moved yet." He told her, obviously slightly panicked "Blaze and I can't get close, and you're the only one out of the three of us with a long range quirk. So we're going to need you to distract the guy until either me or Blaze gets a hit in, okay?"
Windsurf was a strange fellow. He was almost always a happy boy with a smile that shone like the sun. He was a bit of an airhead- no surprise since his quirk helped him control wind, but when he gets serious like this... shit's gonna go down.
Snow-cloud let out a breath and gave a small yet determined nod, the tips of her hair beginning to frost over as she activated her quirk. Windsurf stepped backwards and grinned.
"Atta girl. We're counting on you, Kay?"
She nodded.
"Good," Activating his 'Air manipulation' quirk, Windsurf was picked up with the air he controlled. Before rushing off to assist Blaze however, he mouthed something that made the female's cheeks heat up.
'Good luck, Lillie.'
And then he was off, leaving Snow-cloud to herself to fight the crazy strong villain. The girl placed a hand to her chest, clenching it as she let out a frosty breath.
"You too, Hau..."
She stepped out of hiding and allowed her 'Blizzard' quirk to activate fully. Her hair picked up and temperatures dropped, which made the villain momentarily take his attention away from the two heroes he was fighting in to see what the hell she was doing.
His eyes widened as a mini blizzard gushed towards him. As quickly as possible he used his hair as a shield, blocking the attack as best as he could. Of course this gave Blaze an opening. Flames danced around his arms again and he jumped forward, aiming for the man's gut.
Well, he would have if his face didn't land smack down in the dirt.
"Blaze!" Windsurf gasped, rather shocked himself at the epic fail "What happened, how did--"
His attention turned to Blaze's ankle, which had a strand of platinum blonde hair coiled around it. The man it belonged to laughed.
"What, you didn't think I'd see that coming?" He jeered, retracting his hair again "It's three against one, guys. An ambush is almost guaranteed here."
Damn...
Suddenly, the three of them were binded by his hair and smacked together in front of him. They struggled, but his grip was tight. With a chuckle he cracked his knuckles.
"I stay true to my word, you know. It really is the end of the line for--"
*Growl*
"Huh?"
He turned his head slightly in confusion. Was that a lion's growl just now? Was he just hearing things?
Nope.
Something large pounced at him, its paws pushing against him and causing him to fall over. His hold on the three hero's stopped, allowing them to slip out of his grasp with ease. The weight on his chest disappeared, allowing him to sit up and see what it was.
His eyes widened slightly.
A four legged creature with silky grey fur stood in front of Snow-cloud, Windsurf and Blaze protectively, its intense blue eyes glaring at him for his next move.
"You got here just in time, Nullify." Blaze praised the creature, who let out an apologetic sounding purr.
Oh, so that's the Beast Hero; Nullify...
The villain slowly stood, his ass aching slightly from being pushed down as he dusted himself off. The growling from Nullify made him smirk.
"So your guard dog showed up, huh?"
"Guard dog?" Windsurf echoed, nose scrunching up slightly "She doesn't look like a dog; more like a griffin without wings."
"Can it, Air-Ride!"
"I-It's Windsurf, but okay..."
"You think you can win even with your beast there? Well think agai--"
"Get him!"
He yelped as Nullify pounced at him again, forcing him to jump out of the way due to reflexes. He activated his quirk in hopes of smacking her into a wall, but missed her by a second. When landing on his feet, an irk mark formed on his brow.
"Hey, I was monologuing there!"
.
.
.
Blaze stifled a laugh "Was that a voice crack?"
"N-No!"
"I think it was~" Windsurf teased, irking the man even more.
"I'll kill you!" He yelled, throwing another attack at the heroes. Most dodged, but Snow-cloud wasn't fast enough and therefore was batted into a piece of rubble.
"Snow-cloud!"
Just as the man attacked again Nullify pounced and grabbed his hair in her jaws, preventing him from grabbing her friend. This gave Blaze and Windsurf enough time to get her out of danger.
The villain smirked, his cheeks getting covered by shadow as he spoke to the creature "You know what, Nullify?"
*Growls*
I think you're very, very stupid."
The heroine gasped as she was lifted into the air by her hind legs, before getting slammed into the wall with force that knocked the air out of her.
Ow...
The villain laughed "Aw, poor puppy~... Now for you fuckers."
He turned to the other three, but just before he could attack Nullify headbutted him in the side, sending them both flying... and then falling down a hole in the floor.
"Nullify!" Her comrades yelled, scrambling to the edge of the hole and looking down for any signs of the Beast Hero. Tears crystallized on Snow-cloud's cheeks.
"Megan!!!"
---
He ached all over...
How many stories did they drop? At least three...
The man groaned as he sat up, his sore body screaming at every movement which he found extremely annoying. He looked around; how did he get here, again?
Oh, right. Nullify.
Anger boiled up inside him and he began furiously looking around for the hero. He was gonna kill her. He was gonna strangle her and watch her whimper for mercy, and then snap her neck in front of her little friends.
Where is she?!
He noticed a pair of black and purple boots behind a piece of broken building. He smirked "Bingo..."
He had heard that Nullify morphed back into her human form when she loses concentration on her quirk, which meant she must have switched back when they were falling so she could concentrate on landing... Well, that's a bonus; he loved the look in a hero's eyes when he slaughters them.
Nullify heard his footsteps echo as he began to approach, causing her breath to hitch. She couldn't move right now, because her leg was surely broken after landing on it... What could she do, though? There had to be something to fend him off.
He got closer...
And closer...
Shit. Think, Megan!
She noticed a stick of metal five feet away, and she found a tiny bit of hope in her soul. She reached out, her fingers itching to curl around the makeshift weapon. She was so close... so damn close...
But not close enough.
She felt his hair coil around her frame, violently tightening as she was pulled up into a sitting position. Her head was down, her tangled hair covering her now unmasked face so she wouldn't look at her soon to be murderer.
"Hey," He growled, squeezing her body tighter "You know this could've been avoided. You didn't have to become a hero..."
She said nothing.
"Nothing to say? No last words?" He laughed "Pathetic."
She said nothing.
"I'm going to kill you, you know... imagine the headlines: Beast Hero; Nullify taken down by unknown villain. Not the badass we thought! Oh, that will be a beautiful day... and I'm going to make it a reality!"
This time, she said something. But it wasn't pleading... it was something that angered him even more.
"Then what are you waiting for...?"
He growled "Look at me. I want to see your eyes, first."
She didn't move.
"Hey, I said--" His hand moved under her chin and forced it up "Look at me!"
Their eyes met--
--And they stopped.
Nullify's breath hitched, not from the pain of his grip, or the violence of his hand... it was the familiar colour of his eyes...
Emerald green...
The man's hand slowly dropped from her chin, his lips parted as he studied her face. He knew that face, he knew it oh so well... it was engraved in his mind; he could recall every feature blindfolded.
Letting out a shaky breath, their names rolled off their tongues.
"Megan..."
"Gladion...?"
A bang was heard from outside the room they had fallen into.
"NULLIFY, ARE YOU DOWN HERE?!"
Blaze...
Megan suddenly felt the tightness around her disappear, allowing her to take a deep breath. When she collected her thoughts and her breath... he was gone.
Was that... really him?
"Nullify!" Blaze's voice rung through the building again, sounding more desperate than the last time. Megan winced, trying her best to speak in her weak and overwhelmed state.
"Blaze..."
She wasn't loud enough... Damn. She had to try again... she had to...
'If you can't tell for help, bash something against the wall. That'll get their attention.'
She remembered... He taught her that.
She began looking around for something, something to make a sound loud enough for her comrades to hear.
The pole!
With whatever power she could muster she shuffled towards the pole, grabbing it with one hand and hitting it against the wall.
It broke instantly...
...She was starting to fall out with this pole...
She suddenly started to feel light headed. Either from her broken leg, or the shock of seeing those eyes...
It didn't take long for her to pass out.
I'm sure of it... that was him...
---
A five year old girl crouched in the middle of the park, bruised and beaten and in tears. Her pained cries went unnoticed, as everyone had left to go home already.
Well... almost everybody.
A hand was placed on her shoulder, making her gasp and turn instantly. Had they come back?! Didn't they have enough already?!
No... it wasn't them.
It was him.
"What did they do this time?" A boy with platinum blonde hair asked softly, his emerald green eyes glimmering with concern as he knelt down in front of her. She sniffled, covering her face with her arms to hide her bruised face.
"I-it's Leven, A-And I-Isaac..." She whimpered as more tears rolled down her face "T-They called me a loser, a-and they s-said I'll never be anything because I'm q-quirkless!!"
The boy frowned and gently pulled her arms down, allowing him to look her in the eye.
"Are they also the ones that hurt you?"
She nodded.
With a sigh he pulled her close, patting down her hair and hushing her muffled cries.
"They're wrong."
"B-But how?"
"Because you don't need a flashy quirk to be amazing- you've already proven that." The boy stated, holding her by the shoulders with a smile "You're the bravest little girl I know, Megan."
"B-But I can't be a hero by being just brave!"
"Sure you can. Just not the one that has to take interviews or beat up bad guys. I mean... You're already my hero."
The girl tilted her head "Your hero?"
"With your smile and your attitude... even if you are quirkless people always feel at ease with you. I feel lucky to call you my friend." He whispered as he wiped her tears away "So I say, screw those cocky boys!"
Megan giggled "Frenchfry said a bad word!"
"Well it got you to smile, didn't it?"
She nodded, and his smile widened.
"Don't cry anymore, okay pigtails? Come on," He told her as he stood, taking her small petite hand in his "I'll buy you an ice-cream. Heroes like ice-cream, right?"
"Yes!" She squealed, skipping along with him "Gladion?"
"Yes?"
"We'll be together forever, right??"
Gladion laughed, squeezing her hand even tighter "Of course! We'll never be apart."
---
He was the boy that always picked her up when she fell down
He was the boy that made it seem sunny when it was raining outside.
He was the boy who taught her to be strong.
And he's the boy who left her, when she needed him the most.
Wait a second... She thought, suddenly taking note of the warm surface she was on.
A bed?
The next thing she noticed was the hand running through her hair. Confused, she cracked an eye open. A familiar ravenette sat at her bedside, fingertips running smoothly across her scalp as he stared down at his lap.
Blaze
Or rather...
"Sun...? Where am I?" She asked, grimacing at the horrid gravely sound of her voice. The boy snapped his head up.
"Megan! Oh thank God, I thought you weren't waking up! You're in the hospital. How are you feeling?!" He blurted as she slowly sat up. Megan groaned and rubbed her temple.
"Everything hurts and I'm dying..."
Actually that's a lie... I feel great. But... didn't I just fall down a hole?!
"Really?" Sun frowned "I thought Recovery Girl said you'll be fine when you wake up."
Ah, that's why.
"Oh, don't worry Sun." The female laughed, waving her hands as her friend's face dropped in concern "I was just being dramatic. I'm fine, I'm just a little achy..."
Sun smiled slightly. He was glad Megan was okay, but there was something that still needed to be discussed. With a sigh he placed a hand on her arm to get her attention.
"I don't know how much you remember... but the villain we were fighting, what happened to him?"
Villain... what vill--
Oh...
Oh no!
So that wasn't a dream! They really were fighting a villain with spaghetti hair and she really did fall down a hole with him. She was almost killed and--
And the villain... the villain was Gladion!
Megan let out a shaky breath before speaking "He..."
Let me go? Disappeared into thin air? Is actually my long lost BFF?!
"He got away..."
Sun let out a disappointed huff as he raked his hands through his hair "Damn... he's really strong, too. Who knows what danger he could cause..."
"I'm sorry..."
He gasped and grasped her shoulders "No, it's not your fault! You were knocked out cold and your leg was broken!"
She stared down at her lap.
"Look, Megan. You already evacuated nearly the entire city, so the public isn't in any immediate danger. We just need to catch the guy before he can start anything else." He told her with a smile "You tried, and that's good enough for me. Same with Hau and Lillie, we're all just glad you're alive and safe."
She was pulled into a hug by the fire user. He was warm, and she instantly felt safe in his arms. Though, that little thought remained in the back of her mind.
I thought... he died...
---
Megan was released the next day, much to her relief. She hated being in a room full of so much light for so long. Plus, she missed her cat. Sun, Hau and Lillie tried to ditch hero work to keep her company, but she managed to convince her otherwise. And by convince, she just repeated the words 'Fuck off' until Lillie had enough of her profanity and dragged her other two friends out of the room with her.
So now, Megan was now strolling down the sidewalk- well, limping as her foot was still a little sore. The bone's were fixed, but it still hurt.
With a sigh, she made her way to her front door. When closing it behind her she flicked on the light switch and tossed her bag onto the couch. She ran a hand through her hair, and made her way to the kitchen.
"Yo, Prince, you here?!" She yelled out, but the only response she heard was the hum of the washing machine. Her brother must've turned it on before heading out. She smirked and took ahold of the cat treats, shaking the box twice to make that noise cats apparently loved.
"Meow."
A blur of black fluff zoomed into the kitchen, and suddenly her saffron eyed black russian blue was at her feet. She rolled her eyes and dropped a couple of treats onto the tiled floor, bending down to give Prince a pat before stepping over him and making her way to her room.
I wonder if Lillie's home yet...
Suddenly, just as Megan walked through the door a hand wrapped around her mouth; muffling the loud yelp of surprise that she emitted. She heard the door close, and then felt a warm breath against the nape of her neck as whoever was holding onto her leant in closer.
"Looks like you came out in one piece, huh...?" A low, yet calm voice spoke right against the shell of her ear. She flinched, but made no further movement as the obvious male scoffed.
"You heroes... always so bold and... heroic..." He continued with an obvious eye roll. Megan looked to the corner of her eye even though she knew she couldn't see anything. She was startled at the stranger's sudden appearance, but he seemed so familiar she couldn't be scared if she tried.
"I'm gonna take my hand away, but if I do don't you dare scream... okay?"
Megan nodded once, exhaling slowly as the intruder released her mouth. Carefully she turned around, as if any sudden movement could trigger hostility... just like a predator.
Their eyes met...
And Megan's jaw dropped as she took in his appearance.
He smirked, lifting his hands as his fingers flexed into claws "Boo."
He looked no different from all those years ago... Platinum blonde hair that was longer on one side, and styled in a certain way due to his quirk. His skin was as pale as before, perhaps a little paler, and his clothes consisted of a t-shirt and jeans like they did when he was a kid. And his eyes, well, that's what caused Megan to remember him in the first place. They were polished emeralds that shimmered like broken glass and were dulled with time.
But it was him...
"FRENCHFRY?!"
His hand came up to clamp her mouth shut for the second time "Did I not just tell you to not scream?! Jeez, you never listen." He hissed, obviously irritated as he lowered his hand again. Megan just stood there, frozen. Not sure what to do.
"Wha-- you-- how--..."
"What's wrong, Nullify? Beast got your tongue?" He teased, raising an eyebrow at her lack of words. She scowled, finally able to speak when she cried out these words.
"You're a villain!!"
"Yeah and you have a quirk, so we're both overwhelmed here." He shot back, leaning forward so they were almost nose to nose "Actually... Why don't you tell me about that..."
"I..." she stopped "Actually, no."
"No?"
"No! How about you tell me where you were all those years, or why you even left in the first place! Or, the thing that confuses me the most: Why the ever loving heck did you become a villain?!"
"Okay, first of all; for the love of Stain stop yelling!" Gladion demanded as he pinched the bridge of his nose "Second, I had to leave! I didn't have a choice!"
"Everyone has a choice, Gladion! It just so happens you made the wrong choice!" Megan yelled back "Does that sound familiar?"
Gladion thought back to when they were kids.
---
"You punched him?!"
Megan glanced down guiltily "I... I didn't have a choice..."
"Everyone has a choice, Megan." Gladion scolded, but his voice softened as he cradled her bruised cheek in his hand "You just made the wrong choice..."
---
He grimaced. Now she was using his lessons against him, how could he win against that?!
*Sniffle*
Oh no.
He looked up instantly to see glossy eyes and a quivering lip. Megan tried her best to stay angry, but her emotions were failing her.
"Why... Why did you come back?" She choked.
Oh God, she was crying. Gladion didn't know what to do; he hadn't comforted anyone in so long... anyone who crossed paths with him that wasn't a bloodthirsty villain was a kill on sight, he didn't care about their emotions.
But he cared about hers...
His hand came up to wipe her tears away, but she slapped it violently and took a step back.
"Don't touch me!"
Why did his heart feel like shattering?
"I...I came back because I couldn't stand how I left things. Or how I left you. I left you in a damaged building, with a broken leg. I said some pretty shit things."
"You tried to kill me."
"I--" He stopped, struggling not to look livid "I know I did... but that was before I knew it was you."
Megan scoffed "And if you didn't know, you would have killed me."
"Well I-- okay, listen." He demanded, frustrated in her and himself "This world is tainted. It's full of feuds and neglect. Full of quirk bias and little guys getting kicked in the dirt by cocky heroes. I want to change that. I want to destroy the feuds and all of those cocky heroes, so that the ideal world can come into place. Stain's world, his ideals; That's what I stand for," He stared down at the ground "That's why I became a villain."
Megan watched as his frown deepened and his fists clenched inside his pockets, and she hated it. She knew he had done terrible things, but... "You don't want to do this... do you?"
"Not really..." He glanced upwards to meet her eyes "But sometimes the right thing, isn't always the right thing... not in the community's eyes, anyway."
His hands suddenly came up towards her again, but she raised her fists in defense. However, his hair grew in length and coiled around her wrists, gently pulling them down so he could cup her face.
"Look at you," he sighed, swiping her tears away with his thumbs "You're dirtying up that pretty face of yours with all this crying..."
Pretty... face...
She mentally slapped herself.
He's a villain. He's a villain. He's a villain.
"I thought you were dead..." She finally blurted, eyes averting from his "When you disappeared, I did nothing but look for you. I searched anywhere I could think of... just to see you again. When you were presumed dead a year later... I couldn't live with myself. And- And now you're here, and I find out what you've become--" She cried, head bowing into his palms "You didn't even say goodbye..."
Okay. That did it.
A pair of strong arms wrapped around Megan's frame, which pulled her into Gladion's hard chest making her gasp. Gladion let out a long exhale, as if he had just done something he missed dearly.
"I had to leave..." He whispered painfully, his cheek nuzzling into her hair "If I said goodbye to anyone, they would have tried to stop me. And... if I said goodbye to you, I would have tried to stop myself... Plus, if I had told you, you would've tried everything to come with me. I couldn't let you do that; you weren't and never will be made for the path I have chosen... When push comes to shove, there was a billion reasons for me to go, and only one reason for me to stay..."
"What's that?"
"You..."
Her breath hitched, as Gladion pulled away only slightly to look at her again.
"Leaving you was the hardest thing I've ever had to do..." He murmured while tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear "But the thought of seeing you living in a perfect world kept me going... I may not be the Gladion you used to know; I've broken so many lives and taken so much more... But, believe me when I say; It was never, ever my intention to hurt you."
He's a villain. He's a villain. He's a villain. He's a villain. He's a villain!!!
"I can understand your motives..." Megan muttered, trying not to seem like she missed being in his arms "But I don't agree with them."
"I never expected you to. You are a hero, and I am a villain. We aren't supposed to agree with each other."
She averted her eyes.
"Can we..." Gladion trailed off, thinking if what he was going to ask was alright.
"Can we what?"
"Can..." Talk, jackass!!! "We forget about that, though? About heroes and villains, I mean. Just for tonight, I want to talk to you without the thought of us being... enemies."
Enemies... that's right. We're enemies...
Megan sighed and took the boy by the wrist, pulling him towards the bed and sitting the two of them down "How about this... We take turns to ask each other questions. It would be a good way for us to... catch up, and maybe help us forget our... motives."
"That could work." Gladion nodded "Who's going first?"
"You can go first, as long as you don't ask for any information about me or my colleagues."
"I swear to Stai--" He paused at the sight of Megan's raised eyebrow "Ugh. I swear to God I won't."
"Alright..." she leaned back "Start."
"Is your favourite colour still pink?"
"... Seriously?"
When she said she wanted to catch up, small talk wasn't what she had in mind.
"No, it's black now..." She answered, anyway "My turn?"
"Edgy... Proceed."
"How does it feel to kill someone?"
Okay, so maybe that was a bit extreme. But she had to know if he actually relished the feeling of homicide. Sure enough, Gladion's face tightened and his eyes darkened, as if he had just shut down. Like, his power switch had just been flipped.
"Pass."
Welp.
"What? We're allowed to to that?" She frowned "Fine, I'll go a little easier. Are you part of the League of Villains, or are you rogue?"
With a loud dramatic sigh Gladion threw himself back against the wall, slapping a hand over his face "That is not any easier. I thought we were catching up, not dragging up every skeleton in the closet. You're making me feel like I'm in an interrogation here."
"You'll survive."
A large huff whooshed through his mouth as he sat upright again, almost in exasperation, and he gave her an unreadable expression "Look, Megan. I know you're weary of me because I'm... you know, but you gotta go a little easier than this. I've done terrible things, I know, and I'm fully prepared to answer all the questions you have... But in due time. I'm asking you to start small. Find out who I am, before finding out what I am."
That seriously deep statement, along with the haunted gaze he was giving made Megan realise she was being a little too extreme with her questions... He may have been a criminal, but he was still a human... And he used to be her entire world.
"Okay, I'm sorry..." She sighed, defeated "What's your favourite colour now?"
A hearty chuckle emitted from his throat as his features relaxed, and when his eyes met Megan's they were brighter... more relaxed.
"You know, I'm kinda drawn to the colour blue..." He finished off with a wink, confusing the hell out of Megan.
"What are you..."
Wait...
Her eyes were--
"Oh my God!" She laughed out at his cheesiness, but covered her mouth afterwards.
He's a villain! You gotta remember, he's a villain.
She noticed the man was staring at her with a smirk, his cheek resting on his palm which was propped up on his knee. It made her frown "What?"
"You let your guard down, didn't you?"
"No!"
"I think you did~"
"I didn't!"
"Mhmm."
"Shut up and ask your dumb question!"
Gladion snorted, his legs lifting onto the bed as he leaned back against the wall "Um... Okay... Gimme a sec."
Megan couldn't help but snicker. As a villain, he was probably quick and snappy when it came to thinking of last minute plans. However, when it came to asking normal questions as a normal person, it looked like he was as slow as a snail... Tucking her feet up onto her mattress, Megan rotated her body to face Gladion. He mirrored her action...
Then off they went.
Back and forth they asked each other questions. Don't ask me who started, or who made the first corny joke, or when any tension or hesitation disappeared. But I can tell you now that when Megan looked at him again, Gladion seemed so much different. Not like a bad guy at all. In fact... it was exactly the opposite.
He was funny, and sweet, and hella cheesy. And his eyes, though obviously broken held this glimmer in them that Megan hadn't noticed before... It was like, she saw him like he used to be. When they could joke around and talk like they were doing right now.
They talked for hours and hours without end, about anything and everything life could hold. No conversation faltered or turned dull, not even when Megan left for snacks or when Prince entered and flopped onto Gladion's lap.
It was like they forgot about yesterday...
And then, Gladion talked
"The first time I killed someone..." He began softly, gazing up at the girl in front of him for a moment before staring back down at his open palm "Was when I was about 14. It was a long time ago, but I still remember most of it."
Megan bit her lip. She could hear the hesitation in his voice, but she could also see that he actually did want to tell her "Go on..."
"I wasn't a 'villain' yet, but I wasn't necessarily a good person either. I stole wallets and stuff right under people's noses without them even noticing; It was one of the perks of my quirk. But one day... someone I stole from- he was a thug. And, well, he caught me." He hesitated for a moment "I don't know how long he chased me for, but I know that that eventually he had me cornered. And there was a knife in his hand."
Megan's breath hitched.
"I knew I had to do something, but I just didn't know what. But when he lunged at me, and I couldn't move away... I did the first thing that came into mind. I used my quirk to trip him and then climbed on top of him, and somehow I had the knife now..." His fists clenched, and his eyes darkened "And I stabbed him to death..."
A lump lodged in Megan's throat as she watched Gladion basically curl into himself. She was about to speak, but he spoke first.
"Killing him was a weird feeling... It's like... your blood turns cold and your mind goes blank. And the aftermath, you feel nausea, confusion... regret. But the more you do it and the more familiar it becomes... You start to lose those after effects till eventually you feel nothing."
"And... how many people have you killed?"
"...A lot..."
Guilt crept up to the pit of her stomach as she looked down. She shouldn't have asked; she was certain Gladion had lived through this countless times before. She was certain that despite what he said, he still felt the guilt of every murder he committed or even was a part of. But she asked anyway, because she was skeptical of him... wasn't that just selfish?
"Hey," Gladion murmured as his fingers moved over to her, lifting her chin so he could meet her reluctant gaze "Don't get all depressed on me, now. You gotta answer my question, now."
She nodded, still mad at herself "Okay..."
"Promise you'll chin up?"
"Yeah..."
"Alright. How did you get your quirk."
O boy.
"Well you might have guessed, but I was a late bloomer." Her lips quirked upwards "It's actually a really funny story."
"I'm all ears."
"Okay, so, you know how My dad can create illusions of mythical creatures."
"Yeah."
"And my mom can change her appearance into anybody she touches."
"I remember."
"Well, one day my mom and I were walking through the park, talking about ponies and whatnot, when suddenly a man with a large beak-like nose bumped into her. For some reason she activated her quirk and had the face of the man, which I found hilarious so I decided to copy her..." She chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck "Next thing I know, mom's screaming about a wingless griffon on top of her."
Gladion snorted "Okay, that is kinda funny... when was this?"
"Well, I was 7. So it was about--" She paused "Two days after you disappeared..."
"Seriously?!"
"Yes."
"So had I waited just a little bit longer, I could've seen your quirk manufacturer?"
"Basically..."
"Damn," He huffed dramatically, looking absolutely disappointed in himself "Forget the murder, that's my biggest regret!"
She giggled lightly, making his heart flutter...
... And then the moment had to be ruined.
Gladion huffed as his phone began to buzz, but when he took it out his expression went stone cold "I have to take this, so for your safety do not make a sound."
This wasn't the Gladion she was just talking to, that one was light and charming and kind. But this...
This was Villain Gladion.
As soon as she nodded.Gladion shooed Prince off his lap and stood, placing his phone close to his ear.
"Yo, Facepalm. What's up, need a hand?"
That was obviously a joke, but the way he said it was so... mocking. Not meaning to be funny but rather, insulting...
"What?! Now? But I was just about to go to bed..."
Um. I think not!
"Ugh, fine... I'll be right there... No! No you don't have to warp me, I can walk. Alright, fuck you too."
He hung up and through his head back "Fucking Shigaraki..."
"S-Shigaraki...?"
Shit!
He turned around, noticing Megan had now stood up and the colour had drained from her face "A-As in... Tomura Shigaraki...?"
She had an encounter with the hand covered villain, before. He was a dangerous man; he almost succeeded in killing Hau and Sun... So, the thought of Gladion being connected with him made her shake like jelly on top of a moving land rover.
Gladion sighed and took a step towards her. She didn't move back, but she did flinch.
"Okay, look. Answering your question from before; I am part of the League of Villains... It's not my ideal way of doing things, but they help me with my goals faster with the condition of helping them destroy All Might..." He trailed off "Like now... The bastard has a plan. So, I have to go."
Megan glanced away from him "I suppose this means we're enemies, again. Hero and Villain..."
"I guess so..."
...
"Use the window to get out." She spoke up again, crawling on top of the bed and shuffling towards the window to open it "There's a tree in my yard that you can hook onto with your quirk, that way you can get out without anyone noticing you."
Gladion smirked "You're helping me escape? The great hero, Nullify is letting a dangerous villain get away?"
She scoffed with an obvious eye roll "Just this once. Though make no mistake, next time I won't be so nice. If we cross paths again, I'm not letting you get away. Kapeesh?"
"Aye, ma'am."
The man grinned and joined her on the bed. Though, just as he was climbing out the window he stopped, looking back at Megan "Are you going to report me when I leave, now that you know who I am, what my motives are and who I work for?"
I mean, it would be so easy for her to... She could report him, and the police and other heroes would be able to apprehend him on sight... It would be so easy...
But she didn't want to.
"No. This never happened." She declared "Anything done, or said in this room tonight stays in this room. Nothing will be said about it again, you have my word."
He wasn't expecting that. Just a few hours ago that girl didn't even want to look at him- didn't want to speak to him. And now she was looking him straight in the eye, just like she did when they were kids, and told him she was going back on what she lived for to protect him. Even if it was a one off...
And, he believed her. With all his soul, he knew she meant what she said.
"Then..." He whispered off "Can I do one more thing that never happened?"
"Um... Sure, go ahea--"
Her sentence was stopped, along with the movement of her mouth and especially her breath.
The strand of hair on top of Gladion's head had reached out and hooked around the girl's waist, pulling her up onto the bed and tugging her towards its owner. His hand curled around the back of her head, and...
His lips pressed against hers.
Her eyes flew wide open as he kissed her, heat crawling up her neck and exploding in her face as she tried her best to stay balanced with only one knee propped onto the bed. How on earth was he still hanging like that, what kind of monster training to villains have?!
It felt like hours her, but really it was only about ten seconds. He pulled away, his hand moving to her cheek as he continued to hold her up with his quirk.
"Do you even know..." He whispered "How long I've wanted to do that...?"
H E C K !
I was just kissed by a villain!
I mean yeah, it's Gladion...
But Gladion's a villain
But the villain is Gladion--
UGH! EMOTIONS!
Suddenly a wave of sadness shot through Megan's chest, when she realised after today they would be fighting each other. She placed a hand over his and nuzzled into his palm.
"Why did it have to be this way...?"
"Life's not fair, Megan." He sighed, not sounding happy either "I wish it could be different, and if I could stop, I would..."
"But that wouldn't be what you want."
He fell silent.
"It's fine, Gladion. We have different views... But, at least for one night, I could pretend that we weren't enemies... that we were something else."
"What's that?"
"Well--"
"Megan! You home?!"
"Shit, Luke!" She gasped, pushing his hand back towards him "Go!"
The grip on her waist tightened "Not until you tell me."
"No, Gladion!"
"Then I guess 'Luke' will have to walk in here to see me taking you hostage."
"I--" she paused "You're evil.'
"Well I am a villain."
"Oh for fuck-- fine!"
Megan grabbed the fabric of his shirt and leaned in, whispering something into the shell of his ear which made his face instantly heat up.
"Megan?!"
She pulled away and pushed him through the window.
"Now go!"
The boy let go of her before using the same strand to pull himself onto a large tree branch. He turned to look at her and smirked.
"Well, now I learned your weakness!"
"What?!"
"Don't worry, I'll keep this to myself! But don't think I won't use it as my secret weapon next time we cross paths! Later!"
And he was gone, swinging like Spiderman onto the roofs of her neighbourhood. She watched with wide eyes as he disappeared into the night, a small giggle emitting from her throat.
"Sly Frenchfry..."
Meg, where the hell are you?!"
For the love of All-Might "ALRIGHT, I'M COMING!"
Okay it's done. I actually really enjoyed writing this :3
Also, just a little something before you go.
Okay... Well.
