Best Friend
(Okay so I realised that this chapter hadn't been uploaded when I wanted it to, which was supposed to be after Hater's gonna hate and before destined. It was either me being retarded, or Wattpad being an ass. But either way, I apologize if this leads to any confusion. But enjoy, anyway)
It had now been a week since the dance department welcomed in their new student, and to be honest he blended in pretty quickly. As well as standing out because, you know, you gotta catch someone's eye if you want to be recognised for talent. The only problem, was the ongoing feud he seemed to be having with this girl.
Megan yawned, finishing lacing up her converse and wrapped her hand around the strap of her red backpack- which had Keith Kogane's Bayard and Blade shaped like a cross printed on. It was one of her many Voltron themed merch. She reached her hand out to Rose, wiggling her fingers with a pout as if she was begging to be pulled up. Her friend rolled her eyes, grabbing Megan's hand and hauling her up onto her feet.
"Thank you, peanut~" The taller female sang, patting Rose on the head. She only rolled her eyes.
"Okay, champs." Kukui called out to the class "I got another assignment for you, so gather round."
The students groaned. Not another project! Grudgingly they trudged towards their instructor, who smiled and seemed to ignore his students' unamused expressions.
"I'm going to be putting you in pairs, and with your partner I want you to construct a dance routine within a month. It doesn't have to be a specific style or genre, and you can choose your own music. Oh, but please make sure the lyrics are as clean as possible." He glanced over at Guzma, who held his hands up in surrender.
"Anyway, listen out for your name, and the person you'll be working with. Rose and Janus."
Megan stifled a laugh. She found it amusing that the class's two shorties were partnered up. Rose glared at her, before making her way towards the midnight blue haired girl.
A few more names were called out before one Megan recognised came up
"Sun and Ein."
'Oh jeez. Sun can't be handling this too well...'
She caught sight of her raven haired friend, who's face had turned extremely red. Ein approached him, starting a conversation probably on the lines of the routine.
"Megan and Lillie."
"Yes!" Megan jumped up, fisting the air as soon as she heard about being paired up with her best friend. Lillie was also clearly ecstatic, judging by the way she immediately rushed to the blonde-brunette and high fived her.
"Hau and Leven."
"Nooo~!" The two girls whined in sync. Poor Hau, having to work with that level 3 douchebag.
---
"How about we fit a twist of some kind in somewhere between that?"
Lillie placed her pencil to her lips, thinking about what her friend had suggested. After a few seconds she spoke "But wouldn't that mess it up? The song we're dancing to doesn't have enough beats for something like that."
Megan frowned, glancing at the hand drawn plan in front of her and examining what she had scribbled down. She sighed "You have a point... UGH My brain hurts!" She whined dramatically, falling backwards onto Lillie's bed with her head in her hands.
"Calm down, Megs. We only got this today, and it's due in a month.' Lillie giggled.
Megan lifted her head "Projects with a longer hand-in deadline are usually harder to complete, remember?"
The blonde's face fell "Oh yeah..."
"We screwed now?"
"Yup."
Both girls chuckled, rolling their eyes at each other before staring down at their notes. Megan sat up again, swinging her legs off the bed and standing. Lillie watched confused as she walked to the door.
"Where are you going?"
"To raid the kitchen." Megan replied, reaching for the handle "I'm sure you have Doritos lying around somewhere."
"Oh, of course you're allowed to eat my food anytime." Lillie rolled her eyes, blowing a strand of hair out of her face. Megan giggled and opened the door.
"I'll be back in a tick."
"Can you at least grab me a lemonade?"
"Hai."
---
"Are you sure no one will question me being here?"
"Mom's working 'till late, and Lillie's probably out studying for that project we got. So you're fine." Gladion explained as he slipped off his shoes. Natalie giggled.
"Prepared, aren't we?"
Gladion froze for a moment, glancing at his girlfriend and examining her face for a moment. She frowned.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, it's just... you said something that reminded me of someone else..."
'Megan glanced at him "Prepared, aren't we?" She sounded almost amused.'
He shivered. Why was he thinking about that bother when he was with his girlfriend? He shouldn't, that's for certain.
"Well anyway," Natalie approached Gladion, planting a large sloppy kiss on his cheek "I'm going to the kitchen, feel free to follow~"
The girl walked elegantly towards the kitchen, hoping there'd be a nice snack waiting for her in there. But instead, she stopped in her tracks once seeing it wasn't human-free. She stared at the girl, who stared back in a position like she was attempting to open one of the higher cupboards.
"Who the hell are you?" They asked in sync, scrunching their noses up in confusion.
"Natalie?" Gladion entered the kitchen "Why are you just standing--" he paused once seeing the other presence, his face immediately falling "What are you doing here?"
"Oh hey, Gladion. Nice to see you too." Megan rolled her eyes, finally able to get that darn cupboard open "And fyi, I'm trying to put together a dance piece with Lillie. You know, the thing we were set today?"
"I know, I'm not stupid Megan."
"Really? Oh, my mistake."
Gladion growled, glaring at the girl who stared back with a smug smile.
"Babe, who is she~?" The girl next him whined, clinging onto his arm like a frightened child. Gladion sighed.
"Remember that annoying girl I told you about?"
"Yeah?"
He pointed at Megan "That's the annoying girl."
Natalie scowled, letting go of Gladion and stomping towards the other girl. She was taller than Megan, so she had to crane her neck to make eye contact.
"Listen here, you little bitch. I don't know who you think you are but stay away from my boyfriend, got it?"
"Okay." Megan shrugged, taking a step back so there was some distance between them. Natalie growled, poking the girl's chest with her long nail.
"I mean it. Don't look at him. Don't talk to him. Don't even think about him... are you thinking about him?"
"... Well I am now you've mentioned him."
"UGH! Listen, if you curse my boyfriend with your presence ever again, I'll rip you to pieces so fast you won't know what hit you."
"Oooh, kitty's got claws." Megan teased "Oh wait, those are just over polished nails. My bad."
"Over polished?!' Natalie shrieked. She clenched her fists, before letting out a deep breath and turning to Gladion. "Baby, I'm going upstairs. I refuse to be around this parasite any longer. Come up too when you're ready."
And with that she was gone.
Gladion scowled, turning to Megan who was reaching for a pack of Doritos "What the heck was that?"
"Uh, a conversation?" She replied, raising an eyebrow at the boy "I didn't know she was over sensitive about her manicure."
"It was rude regardless!"
"She was rude to me, so I was rude back. Simple."
Gladion clenched his jaw, waltzing towards the girl until they were inches apart "Don't talk to- or about -Natalie that way."
"So that was Natalie!" Megan snapped her fingers "No wonder she was so clingy and fake protective."
"Fake... protective? I don't follow."
"Wow..." she snorted "You really are dumb. Anyways, you don't have to worry about me." -She finally grabbed the pack she was reaching for- "Bingo! I'll just stay with Lillie until the bitch leaves. Ciao!"
She turned on her heels, attempting to leave the conversation and the boy behind. But just as she walked through the doorway a hand wrapped around her wrist and pulled her back, the force causing her to turn to the person.
"Dude what the fuck..." She trailed off at his expressionless face. He leaned in, his lips close to his ear as he whispered into it.
"Look, I don't care if you're my sister's friend or not. Stay away from me."
He let go of her, stuffing his hands into his pockets before brushing past her. Megan snapped out of her daze as soon as the door closed, thinking about what just happened.
If they weren't enemies before, they definitely were now.
---
"I am...." Megan burst through the door dramatically "COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!"
Lillie toppled over onto her back, bursting into a fit of giggles as tried her hardest not to roll off her bed "W-Who are you, All Might?!"
"I may as well be!" Megan responded in a deep voice, flexing her non-existent muscles and making Lillie laugh even more "Anyway, here's your lemonade."
She tossed her friend the can of pop, who caught it with two hands after sitting up.
"Thanks."
"So," Megan flopped onto the bed, criss crossing her legs and placing her bag of Doritos between them "Thought of anything while I was gone?"
Lillie hummed "I thought that maybe if we could slot the twisting in, we could move the spin to--"
"Oh my gosh, that's funny! You're so funny baby~!"
Lillie paused her sentence, pursing her lips together as she side glanced at the wall. "Is that a little pig I here?"
Megan snapped her fingers "Oh yeah! Natalie's here by the way."
"Wow your muscles are Sooo amazing! My prince is so strong!"
"Ew..." the two friends gagged.
"OMYGOSH I almost forgot! My daddy got us tickets to see that new romance movie!!"
"Double Ew." Megan scoffed.
"Oh look! My puppy's so adorable, just like you! EEEEEEK!"
"Oh look! I have elbows, just like you!" Lillie yelled.
"EEEEEEK!" Both girls squealed.
"SHUT UP!" Gladion yelled, causing Megan and Lillie to laugh even harder.
"Sorry Princey! Go back to sucking faces with Natasha!" Megan yelled.
"It's Natalie!"
"Nata I don't care, bitch!"
THUMP
Oh, there goes another book.
---
It was about 10 in the evening, and both Megan and Natalie had gone home. Lillie lay on her stomach on her bed, reading a book about a girl turning into a strange artificial creature, who was saved by a boy whom she became friends with. She was getting to a really interesting part too, when suddenly:
Knock Knock Knock
She huffed, placing the book page first on her bed "Who is it?"
"Me." Her brother answered.
Lillie sighed, running a hand through her hair "Come in, Gladion."
Once given the ok Gladion opened the bedroom door and stepped inside, closing it behind him.
"If this is about earlier, Megan and I were just messing a--"
Lillie began to speak, but cut herself off as Gladion raised his hand as a signal to stop.
"It's not about that. I just wanted to hang out." He said, glancing to the side bashfully. Lillie's lips curled upwards, and she sat up before patting the spot on the bed next to her. Gladion gave a small smile and sat down.
"What were you reading?" He asked, glancing at the book on his sister's pillow. Lillie took it, placing the bookmark between the pages and handing it to the boy.
"Just something I picked up from the library and never ended up returning." She smiled sheepishly "I really like it though, I've read it at least ten times."
"Just Partners..." Gladion read the title out loud "Knowing you, there's probably romance included."
"Absolutely!" Lillie bounced slightly "There's monsters and adventure and everything!"
"Interesting..."
"You're welcome to borrow it if you want." She smiled "Like I said I've read it a lot."
"Thanks. Maybe I will..."
Gladion opened the book, reading through the prologue to get a better idea on what was going on. To be honest, he thought the main character's description and personality was similar to a certain girl. That made him frown.
"Lillie?"
"Hm?"
"Why are you friends with Megan?"
Lillie sighed "Brother..."
"No I'm dead serious. What do you see in her?"
The girl turned her head, scanning her brother's features for a moment "I can ask you the same thing about Natalie."
"There's not much to explain. She's a girl who I care deeply for. She's beautiful, interesting, kind, honest--"
Lillie snorted.
"Stop. Look, I just really like her..." Gladion glanced down at his lap for a moment, before turning fully to Lillie and crossing his legs "Alright there's my answer, now it's your turn."
Lillie placed a finger to her cheek, thinking deeply into the question that had been asked "I dunno."
"What?"
"I don't know what I see when I look at her... except for one thing."
Gladion raised an eyebrow "And what is that?"
"A person. One who prefers to stay with what she's familiar to, one who hates change." The girl leaned back, pressing her palms against the mattress "Megan is the type of person who acts coldly around people she doesn't know, that way she doesn't have to show them who she is. The people she's friends with, Rose, Hau, Sun and I, all know her true colours because we were patient with her. We're friends because we understand each other and our flaws. We're friends because we don't abandon each other, not ever. Because, Gladion, once you earn someone's trust, they'll stick by you forever. That's why Megan's my friend. And I'm not planning on changing that anytime soon."
Gladion was speechless. His mouth had fallen agape as he listened to his sister monologuing, her words so passionate about her friend.
"Well anyway," Lillie smiled like it didn't even happen "We have class tomorrow, and I got to sleep. So if you don't mind... get out!"
Gladion snapped out of it, stumbling to his feet and waltzing out the door. Lillie sighed, but froze when her brother popped his head in again.
"This doesn't mean I like her now, by the way."
"I never expected you to."
Gladion smirked "Oh, and one more thing."
"What..."
"You have a zit on your nose."
"GLADION AETHER GET OUT OF MY ROOM!"
