Chapter Four: I only have eyes for you
-
About a week later, Garrett and I had planned our Sunday out in the city. We would be going out to eat at some restaurant he had found in the newspaper then we would be going to the Empire State Building if I could convince my stubborn ass boyfriend to go.
Which was going well by the way.
I took one last look in the full body length mirror at my outfit. I was wearing a red Royani Jacquard dress with a pair of black heels. I had curled my hair, letting lose waves run down the back of my head. I offered a fall look of makeup since it was the middle of September now.
The temperature had been dropping day by day letting the brisk air come in from up north. The worst thing about the city. The cold.
But, living in New York is the coolest thing in the winter, all of the beautiful Christmas lights are lit up everywhere and there's just a happy buzz coming from everyone around.
"Well now, don't you just look gorgeous," Garrett said from behind, wrapping his arms around me and kissing my cheek.
I smiled and leaned my head on his chest, "Thank you, are you ready to go?" I stared into the mirror at him since I had no motivation to turn around and look at him in the eye, this was good enough.
"Ready when you are!" He reassured me.
I nodded, "Okay, then let's get the show on the road!" I wiggled my way out of his arms and grabbed my clutch that had my money and phone inside.
As I start to make my way down the stairs, a slap on my butt makes an 'Oomph' sound escape my mouth.
I turn around and roll my eyes at my boyfriend who was just smirking at me from behind. Asshole.
We made our way out the door of the apartment building and were faced with fresh air. Well, the freshest you could get in a city like this.
"Where are we eating?" I ask, feeling a small pit in my stomach from hunger.
We started walking down the street, "It's about twenty minutes from here, so we will need to take the Subway down to Times Square."
I nodded in agreement and we made our way to the underground station where the Subway was.
About twenty minutes on the dot, we arrived at Times Square. "Wow, it's been a while since I've been over here," I said while looking at my surroundings, still nothing had changed except that there were different people around.
"Yeah I was over here the other day since someone," he looked over at me, "Had to have Chick-fil-A."
"Hey!" I shouted in defense, "First of all, head comes with a price, second, you can't lie it tasted amazing and totally was worth it."
He rolls his eyes and wraps his arm around my back, and guided me into the restaurant building we would be eating at.
We were led up the elevator and around thirty floors later we exited it and I about dropped to the floor. This place was beautiful.
The whole floor had a view of the city, it was absolutely breathtaking. "Wow, this is absolutely gorgeous!" I squealed as we walked to our seats.
He pulls out my chair for me and I sit down, while he pulls out his own and sits down as well. I gasped at the gorgeous view we had from this angle. I wish our bedroom had a view like this.
Our apartment did have a gorgeous view, but it was nothing like this.
A sound of a camera and a flash caught me off guard, I turn back towards Garrett who had a guilty smirk on his face, with his phone in his hands.
I snag the phone to see he had already posted something on his Snapchat story. I click on the picture and it is of me looking out of the window at the view with the caption, 'I'm not sure which one is prettier...kidding it's definitely my girlfriend!'
I smiled, "How cute!"
"Wow, I can't believe you actually didn't delete it like you usually do," he chuckled, placing his phone back in his pocket.
"Well, for your information, I actually like that picture!" I laughed and picked up the menu to decide what I was going to eat.
Since it was Sunday they offered a brunch menu, there were so many delicious choices, my mouth watered at the sight.
Eventually, the waitress came around to take our orders, "Hello, what can I get for you today?" She immediately turned towards Garrett, acting as if I was invisible. Bitch.
"Uh, I'll have Pecan Wood Smoked Bacon, an omelet with Cheese, Tomato, Bell Peppers, and Ham. And also an order of some fruit." He handed her the menu, "Babe, what do you want?" He focused my attention on me before the girl turned away from him and turned towards me with an exhausted, rude face.
I plastered a smile on my face, "I'll take the Belgian Waffles with Fruit, Whipped Cream, and Syrup. Oh and an order of eggs, and bacon. Thank you!" I handed the waitress the menu and grumbled a few mean words before picking up the glass of water and drowning it down as throat as if it was a shot of fireball.
I turn towards Garrett who was just staring at me, "What?" I snapped.
"Jealous much?" He let out a low, sexy chuckle.
I whined, "Why does every waitress have to act like you are over here sitting by yourself and whatnot at every restaurant?"
He reached across the table and grabbed my hand, "Baby, you know you're the only girl I have eyes for, I honestly didn't even realize she was trying to flirt."
"That's what's so bad! You don't even see it!" Why was I getting so upset over this? I'm so used to this happening, why am I just saying something now?
He kissed my hand softly before letting go, "I do see it, I just choose to ignore it because they don't matter."
I sighed in frustration, "God, I love you."
"I love you too."
Soon enough the waitress came back with our food and shot me daggers as she set my plate down. Once she was out of earshot I leaned across the table, "See! I told you, every person does that."
He chuckled, stuffing a huge bite of his omelet in his mouth, "Hey now, you know how other guys get around you're cute ass. They flirt even more."
I cringed as he spoke with his mouth full, "Sheesh, if they saw you eat like that they would regret ever flirting with you," I joked.
"I know I'm sexy."
We finished our meal and paid for it, which meant we were making our way to our next destination. The Empire State Building!
I haven't been to the top since we came here four years ago with Matt and Savannah that Christmas.
I happily skipped inside the building greeting the doorman, and walking to the elevator where we would be going up.
There was not a single soul in sight in the line to go up, which was very weird. Where was everyone?
The worker led us up to the top of the building where there was no one, "Where is everyone? This place is usually packed." I comment as I stare out at the amazing view of the city.
Garrett shrugged his shoulders, placing his hands on my shoulders from behind.
We walked around the empty building looking at every detail that was in the skyline, they were building a new skyscraper which was cool!
"Babe, come look at this bird!" I said as this bird landed on the railing nearby. He chuckled in response, I turned around to grab him and force him to look when he wasn't where he just was standing.
I look down and he was staring at me, with one knee on the ground with a ring in his hand.
I grinned from ear to ear, covering my mouth with my hands, letting a tear slip out of cheek. It's finally happening!
"Jessica Walker, when I first met you I knew you were something special. I knew I had to get to know you. Even though I came off as an asshole at the start, I was honestly just trying to get your attention since you wouldn't give me the time of day." I laughed, letting another tear escape down my cheek.
"I remember when you kicked my ass snowboarding in France, that was the day I knew I wanted you to be mine. I fell in love with you that day, your sassiness and passion for everything made me realize I needed you. Your laugh is contagious and I can never get enough of it. You understand me more than anyone and I know I can always count on you."
"When you left for London I fell off the tracks for a while, but then I realized that we both needed this. Though we took a break for a while, I think it made our relationship stronger than ever. It made me realize that we may not always be around each other when I'm off playing football or you're off at a meeting in Florida."
"You make me the happiest guy in this world, and I want you to make me happy for the rest of my life. I will always love you no matter what happens to us in the future. Jess, will you do me the honor of marrying me?" His cheeks were stained with tears as he finished, as were mine.
"Yes, Yes! Absolutely yes!" I jumped up and down, and he stood up and picked me up in his arms giving me a huge hug, twirling me around.
I grabbed his face and pressed our lips together as if I was never going to let go. Tears were still streaming down my eyes as we shared our last kiss with me being his girlfriend.
He placed me on the ground and slipped the beautiful ring on my left hand. I held it up in the air, letting the diamond sparkle in the sunlight, "This is beautiful." I gasped.
"Thank you, it was my mother's. She told me to give it to the girl I wanted to marry for the rest of my life, and well, here we are." He grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him before placing another kiss on my lips, "I can't wait for you to become Mrs. Adams." He murmured against my lips.
"I can't wait to be called mama Adams," I said leaning my head against his chest.
I felt his heart beat raise for a quick second, "I feel like we should get married as soon as we can so we can have a kid."
I shrugged, "As long as we get to conceive it in a cool place."
He chuckled, "come on let's go home."
He grabbed my hand, kissing right above where the new ring was placed. I smiled, I'm going to marry the man of my dreams!
As we walked back towards the Subway I curiously asked, "Did you get my father's permission for my hand?"
"Of course, I called him on the phone last week!" He placed his hand on mine and he led me into the Subway where it was absolutely packed with tourists and a few people who actually lived here.
After our ride back over to the Upper West Side, we ran back to the apartment, not wanting to share any more time with anyone else besides us.
I threw my purse on the kitchen table and grabbed a bottle of water out from the fridge. Garrett followed me and grabbed one himself too. He stared at me as if he wanted to tell me something.
He eventually spoke, "You know how we went to Stanford for a game a few weeks ago?" I nodded. "Well while I was there, I went down to Huntington Beach where my parents are buried and sat there and told them about it. I know that's probably weird but-."
I cut his rambling off, "that's really sweet, Garrett! I'm sure they enjoyed that." I smiled and kissed him on the cheek.
He smiled back at me before spinning me around and lifting me up onto the table. "Guess what?" He grinned from ear to ear, placing his body inside my legs, making them spread apart.
"What?" Is this going to be another sexual comment?
"Well, I'm getting drafted in the spring to the NFL." He acts as if it was completely normal.
I gasped, "No freaking way!"
"Yes, way!" I squealed with excitement and kissed him on the lips. "I'm so proud of you!"
"Thank you, baby." He cooed in my ear.
I placed my finger under his chin and lifted it up so he was looking me in the eye, "Now let me show you how proud of you I am in the bedroom."
-
Ahhh! They're finally engaged! Go, Garrett and Jess, <3
