Chapter Seventeen: You can't have a boner at the altar
-
Six Months Later
-
I had officially turned twenty-two last month.
Like Taylor Swift said, "Everything will be alright, if we just keep dancing like we're 22, 22."
The past couple of months have been amazing. Garrett signed with the New York Jets, we both graduated college from Columbia, and I was offered a full-time job at the New York Times as a staff editor.
I would be making over a hundred a grand a year with my experience and I was excited, to say the least.
Okay, sure it's not a lot of money. Garrett is making twenty times that. With his almost two million grand a year. Jerk.
But, I like that I will have my own money to drop and shop with. He said we could use his for bills and what not and I was allowed to do whatever with mine.
Husband goals.
I can't believe they offered him that much money as a starting NFL player for a first year. Like what!
If I would have known it would be this much, I would have strapped a helmet on my head years ago and said: "Put me in coach!"
We figured that since there was no need to stay on the upper west side now that we didn't attend school up there. Both the Times and the Jets were near the lower west side, so we would move closer to there.
We found a perfect home in Chelsea that I am so excited to move into after the wedding. Oh, and after our luxurious honeymoon.
I was currently seated in a directors chair facing a gorgeous expensive mirror. If you're wondering why I'm facing a mirror it's because I'm getting married today!
I was currently having my hair done by a popular hairstylist in Hawaii.
I think I had actually had at least five hundred bobby pins stabbed into my scalp today.
I was in awe as I watched her do flips and tricks with my hair. I wanted to touch it so badly, but the first time I did, she swatted my hand away.
A few minutes later she had finally finished my hair and I squealed. I literally squealed.
It was a French Braided Curly Bun. I saw a picture online after looking for the perfect hairdo for hours and then I came across this. And I knew it was the one.
They had finished my makeup a while ago since you know hair is so tedious it took a while to get this hot mess in order.
I wasn't really as nervous as I thought I would be. I mean I did already drown myself in a few glasses of champagne to celebrate when I got here this morning...
Yeah, I drank in the morning. Got a problem?
I turned around in my seat and noticed everyone else getting ready. Savannah was my maid of honor of course. I mean how could she not be? She was one of the people who has been by my side since the beginning.
Next to Savannah seated Alexis. Hayes and Lexi had been happily married for six months now. It's crazy how time has flown by. They are also expecting another baby as she is now six weeks pregnant. I'm honestly glad she didn't get pregnant earlier, she would have a huge ass baby bump and take the attention away from me on my big day.
Not to sound like a child or anything...
Next to Alexis was Ellie. Oh, my sweet Ellie. Her and Carson were still together, well engaged actually. They would also be getting married soon. I believe their wedding is next year. I don't think I've ever met someone and sweet as this girl. She does not have a mean bone in her body.
Last but not least, next to Ellie seated Charlie. I haven't seen Charlie in a while due to her being overseas for her new job. She went into the hotel management business after she graduated in May and now is traveling the world. Tyler and Charlie broke up after the long distance is too hard. I wonder if it will be awkward since he is one of the groomsmen today...
I scanned my four best friends again and smiled. How lucky I am to have them. We had all gotten super close the past couple of weeks due to the parties, dinners, and excessive planning days we have had together.
Best. Squad. Ever!
A loud scream startles me as I see two children race into the room in a fit of giggles.
I smile and roll my eyes when I see Shelby, Alexis's daughter, and Wesley, Aiden's little brother playing tag. She said hello to her mama and her eyes land on me. She comes running over and giggles, "Aunt Jessie! You look so pretty!" She had just turned five the other month.
I looked down at her and smiled, "Thank you, Shelby. You look gorgeous! I love your hair." She blushed and giggled once again before running back over to Wes and started whispering something in his ear.
I was pleased to announce that I had given that little ball of sunshine the flower girl position. She was more than happy to take the job.
We had also made Wesley the ring bearer. Let's hope he doesn't lose them...
My eyes land on a note that was placed on the vanity I'm guessing a few seconds ago. Those sneaky children.
I smile when I run my hand over the fine print that said, 'Future Mrs. Jessica Walker Adams.'
Yes, I will be making the change to my name. I took my maiden name and made it my middle name so I still had a part of me with me.
I tore the envelope open carefully and smiled when I saw a letter from my man.
To my bride,
Today is the day, beautiful. If just a short few hours I will see you walk down the aisle in the beautiful gown that you have yet to let me see. Gosh, to be excited is an understatement. I have literally been so jittery these past few hours. My leg hasn't stopped shaking. I had to almost be tied down because I just wanted to see you so bad.
I can't contain myself. We are so close to becoming one for the rest of our lives. I mean it too. There's no way I will ever let you go after this. There are so many things running through my head at this moment but the one thing my head keeps coming back to is how much I love you.
Okay, they are yelling at me to hurry up so I gotta do this quicker than I thought. I can't wait to see you soon my love. I can't wait to kiss you and hold you for the rest of my life. Cheers to us, my future baby mama.
Love,
Garrett
I dab away the tears that have formed in my eyes, careful not to ruin my makeup. Gosh, my husband to be is just so god damn perfect!
I can't thank him enough for dealing with me.
He's right. Here's to us, Garrett.
"Jess, it's time! Get your cute ass into that dress!" Savannah hollers from the changing room. She steps out in the beautiful Bridesmaid dress that we had picked out months ago.
It was a Platinum chiffon A-line gown with a gathered crossover bodice. It was stunning. Our colors were black and Platinum as you can tell. Pretty neutral colors and I was fine with that. I wanted a simple wedding.
"Jess!" She hollered at me again taking me out of whatever trance I was in.
"I'm going, I'm going, stop nagging me! Don't get your panties in a twist!" I hollered back, this time getting out of my seat.
I made my way over to where my dress hung up. I smiled as I ran my hand over the delicate fabric. It had cost a small dent in my bank account, but thankfully my father insisted he buys it since I was his only daughter after all.
I couldn't even explain how gorgeous it was. I slipped into the fabric and gasped as I saw myself in it.
I looked...beautiful.
It was a Romantic lace dress with a cameo back.
I stepped out of the changing room and everyone turned their heads and gasped. "You look gorgeous, Jessica." I turn my head to find my mother leaning against the door frame in awe.
I smiled when I saw her. I can't believe she came. She actually came. I walked up towards her and wrapped my arms around her. She immediately hugged me back. "Thank you, mom."
I released her hug and she eyed me up and down, "You have grown up so much. You are so gorgeous. I'm so proud of you."
"Thank you."
"I heard about your new job, congratulations. After the wedding, I would like to introduce you to someone!" She beamed.
"I know it's been incredible so far, I've learned so much! And I would love to!"
We bid our goodbyes and a few minutes later we were all lined up and ready to start the wedding.

Garrett's POV
-
I stared at the envelope I had just been handed to my best man, Matt.
I nodded thank you to him and tore the letter open exposing words down the paper.
I smiled when I saw my future wife's handwriting.
Dear Garrett,
I can't believe today is finally here! I am so unbelievably excited to become your wife in just a few hours. You are my soulmate and the love of my life. I cannot thank God enough for placing the two of us together in life.
I just wanted to tell you that I love you so much and I wouldn't have traded these past five years knowing you for anything. Thank you for always putting me first for anything and loving me unconditionally. Thank you for always making me laugh and smile.
Our journey together is just beginning and I can't wait to do life with you as Mrs. Jessica Adams. Gosh, I'm so excited for you to be my husband! It's all I've ever wanted for the past few years.
See you at the alter my love.
Love,
Jessica
I smiled as I finished the letter. I was on the verge of breaking down and crying, I couldn't let anyone see it. I would have to hold my self together for just a few hours.
We decided on taking a trip to Bolivia for our honeymoon. When I saw pictures we both automatically in love and we booked a house for a week.
I wonder how much exploring of the country we would actually get.
I mean I will probably be exploring her pu-
Stop with the dirty-minded jokes, Garrett. You can't have a boner at the altar.
"Five minutes, Adams." Matthews' voice calls out to me.
I nod and take one last glance in the mirror and adjust my tie one last time.
I can't wait to see how beautiful she looks.
I had heard her dress was flawless and breathtaking from one of her friends and I really just wanted to see it for myself.
I had been so tempted to see her today. Not being able to sleep next to her last night actually killed a small part of me. I almost had to go and snuggle with Matt because I was just so Jess deprived and he was the next closest thing since he was her twin.
The wedding planner called me and I took one last breath and walked to the altar.
