The Last Heartbeat

"The snow are falling heavily tonight don't you think Marcus?"

Allen swipe his hand in the window to remove the smog that managed to lightly cover his view. Marcus smiled as he looked at his beloved watching the snow fall endlessly from the sky with a gleeful smile.

"I haven't been outside since then." Allen stated which took Marcus by surprised.

He was right, Allens body couldn't handle the temperature during the cold seasons so he has to stay inside with the heater on or else his heart would stop beating immediately. Marcus stood by the door unable to say anything. Allen brought his wheelchair and came near his beloved with a smile.

"Well, it doesn't matter as long as I'm with you." Allen smiled which also made Marcus smile.

Marcus crouched down on his knees and touch Allen's face gently before leaning in and giving the boy a sweet kiss on his lips.

"I love you Allen."

"I love you Marcus."

Once again, they claimed each others lips in a hungry battle. Marcus lifted Allen like a bride off from his wheelchair and brought him to their room. He laid him down on their bed as they kiss passionately.

"I'm going to make love to you tonight Allen."

Allen grabbed Marcus' face with both of his hands, encaging his cheek between the cold palms of Allens hands. Allen looked at the silver irises of Marcus and smiled to him.

"No matter where I am, what I am, who I am, I will always love you Marcus. Even if I have to wait for you forever, I will always be yours in the end. So please don't forget me."

"How will you know that it is me in our next life?"

"I don't need any marks or spark or whatever to know that it is you. I will just follow my heart and listen to it." He smiled. "Remember the time I first found you? I didn't have any doubt in my heart, I listened to it and look where we are right now. In each others arms."

Marcus couldn't help but smile at his beloveds words. It was touching and promising. He never thought that he would be able to find love like this despite the circumstances in his life. He learned, figured and realize that patience really is a virtue, and love knows no boundaries.

We can all fall inlove in different time, different place, different people but we should always follow our heart in choosing the perfect one in life. Life is but a full of choices, but it is in our fate to choose between what's right or wrong.

Allen smiled back to Marcus and kiss his forehead, his eyes, his nose, both of his cheeks and lastly, his lips.

"Remember my love to you Marcus, it will travel through time with you so be sure to catch it."

"I will always remember it my love. And no matter where I am, I will always be there to catch you."

In one cold winter night, two souls joined together in a passionate love and reunion.

--

Christmas was fast approaching and the cold season became colder but people still enjoyed these kind of joyous event once in a year. The streets of the city was basking under the sparkling lights and the ambience of the Christmas made the whole place nostalgic and merry.

It was four days before Christmas.

"Happy Birthday!"

Everyone shouted as they celebrated the sixth birthday of Allen's sister Alisha. Allen's parents decided to have another child and Allen couldn't be any happier, at least if he couldn't make it anymore, he wouldn't be leaving his parents miserable without any child.

"Blow your candle dear and looked at the camera."

Claire, Allen's mom coed which made the child put up a smile before blowing the candle without mercy and the sound of camera clicking as she blew the six candles one by one. Everybody was happy and so as Allen.

"Dear, is Marcus' shift over yet?" Allen looked up from his plate and smiled at his mother.

"It'll be over soon and he will arrive here mom." Allen reassured his mom who just smiled and rub Allens back soothingly.

"Brother look! I got a new doll from aunt Marie! Isn't she beautiful?" The child excitedly beamed at her brother while waving her doll to him.

"It is, but your still the most beautiful girl I have ever laid my eyes on." Alisha blushed and gave his brother a toothy grin.

"And your the best brother in the whole wide world. Alisha is thankful to have you and mom and dad and uncle Marcus!"

Marcus...

Suddenly, Allen felt pain on his heart which made him clutch his chest tightly and groaned.

"Allen? what's wrong dear?" Mom asked.

"I'm fine mom, its nothing." Allen tried to hide it. His hand kept on clutching the arm rest of his wheelchair to hide the pain but his mother was really worried and told her husband to secretly call a doctor just in case.

After how many attempts to not show his pains, Allen finally gave up and cough blood unto the carpeted floor of their living room. Everyone became worried and immediately called for help.

Despite the pain he is suffering, Allen's head was full of thoughts about Marcus. He wished that he could still be here beside him even if its his last breath. That would be the best thing.

Meanwhile...

After finishing his job in a local publishing industry, Marcus entered a cake shop with a smile.
After buying a cake for Allens sister who will be turning six, he came out of the shop with a smile he couldn't explain. It was the 21st of December and the cakes are selling out quite fast so he has to wait for another batch of cakes to be baked and he was already running late for the occasion.

He looked at his wristwatch and saw that it was already past ten and Allen and the others might have been waiting for him far too long. He fished out his phone from his pocket's and saw the multiple calls of Allen's mother that had him wonder. When the call went through, Marcus smiled and brought his phone close to his ears.

"Hello mom! I've brought a cake with me so I hope it won't be too late. It is almost the peak of Christmas celebration and we need to finish a magazine so work got a little hectic so..."

"Marcus, Allen needs you."

Just those simple words had Marcus bolting out from where he stood and quickly ran through the streets to where their condominium building can be located.

His head was a mess and he didn't know what to do. All he knows is that he have to run and be beside Allen. He promised himself that by the time Allen losses his final beat, he would be there in his final breath.

Marcus crossed the street and heard someone shout and thought it must be some traffic enforcer since he had broke some rules on the street. The lights were blinding and Marcus didn't know where to go.

"Marcus, I love you..."

"Whats happening to big brother mom?" Asked the innocent child as she looked at her mothers crying face.

"Come here and hug momma okay?" The child nods and went to hug his mother who has been a crying mess.

As they watched through the glass window where Allen was being revived by the doctor, Claire couldn't do anything but watched as his son die. She accepted the consequences that someday Allen would eventually leave and was thankfull that he had reached this age and managed to find love but she couldn't help to think that it might have been to soon for him to die already.

Claire moved away from the window and sat on the single row of seats pushed up against the wall. His husband hasn't spoken yet and just kept his head hung low while deeply in thought. She couldn't held her tears and just let them casacde down her cheeks silently. Alisha has been long gone asleep on her mothers shoulder.

"Allen... not now, please hold on a little longer."

The sound of an ambulance resonated through out the streets as people begun crowding the body of a young man who have been hit by a speeding car while crossing the street.

"Poor man."

"Is he dead?"

The murmuring of the people who was looking at him in pity and disgust crowded his ears before the life of his eyes faded from him.

The officer who came right after the crashed looked at the nurse in sadness and declared his death.

"Died at exactly 10:48pm."

The cake has been long squashed by the side of the road due to the impact and his phone with a smiling Allen on his screen begun turning off as it died down from its hit. The fresh blood pooled beneath his body and a heart who stopped beating lied on the ground.

Marcus obtained a heart after giving half of his life span to Allen after Allen almost died. He knew that by the time Allen would die, something would eventually happen to him that might cause him death. So without any more recollections, he accepted the fate.

*

"I am sorry Mr. and Ms. Mamoru, Allen died at exactly 10:48pm. I'm sorry for your loss."

The doctor declared and immediately, Allens mother wailed in tears.

"If I couldn't be there in your last breath, then I would be willing to die with you till the end."

The two died peacefully in the name of love. Even though they have such different worlds, they managed to learn from each other and eventually find love within the confinement of each other. Their faces were smiling even in their death. And now that they lie next to each other six feet below the ground, the story of how they found each other lingers in the memories who had witnessed it.

"No matter where you are, who you are, I will always love you."
