Chapter 9

It was half a day later, and I luckily hadn't been caught yet.
The sky was a bright blue and puffy white clouds were scattered around it.
A gentle breeze rustled the leaves and my fur.
I was trying to make my way back to where I had met Rush.
I wanted to see that tomcat again... He was... Interesting.
His friendly gaze and the way he had brought me food...
Thinking of food brought me back to my senses. I needed food. I hadn't eaten anything since Rush had fed me... Which had been a while ago.
My stomach did little flips and flops, as though someone was performing all their acrobatics in their.

"Hang in there," I mewed to myself.
I had caught a wiry old mouse with jagged buck-teeth.
It didn't even have much meat on it, and the meat it did have, was tough and tasteless. As I swallowed the chewy meat, I kept my eyes peeled wide open and my perked my ears up, twirling them in every which way.

Being on the run from about a thousand enemies is not fun, let me tell you.
The surroundings around me were starting to become more like the clearing I had met Rush and Venus.
Since I seemed to be around where I had been, I had to be even more careful.
Those snake cats would probably still be lurking around, their big scarred bodies stalking through the tall fronds of green grass and hoping someone would just walk nearby... so they could catch them and take them to their leader, whom I called Slither.

Suddenly a cream coloured blur passed in front of me, ambling along down the path.
I froze.
The sight of this seemed familiar and that's when I remembered: Rush was a cream coloured tomcat.
I wanted to just burst ahead in speed and greet him like I would am old buddy, but I couldn't. I had no idea if this was even Rush and I didn't want to risk being seen by one of Slither's cats.

As I crept closer to where the cream blur had went I started to hear voices whispering.

"I don't know, Devil." Someone hissed. "Are you sure it's a good idea? Sending cats out there... probably killing them? It's not safe. We don't know what's beyond that line of trees, but that's no reason to risk innocent cats lives trying to figure out!"

Another voice replied in a superior, intelligent voice. "If we leave it, more cats will disappear anyway. You know what happened to Zip and Zap."

"They probably went past the borders... I mean, it's safe here."

"You and I both know that isn't true."

"Bu-"

Grumbling and groaning was heard everywhere. Above my head the branches rattled and below me chunks of dirt and stones were being tossed around.

"Hide!" A voice screamed. Branches curled and snapped, leaves fell like a violent storm.
Soon I saw a huge yellow eye peering at me through the rugged broken branches... and I fell into a cold sleep.
