Chapter 6
The last comment shocked me. Did they really eat other cats? That was ridiculous. How could they even think that? Yet, it did explain some stuff. The leader just leaving me here, the actual reason she wanted me to come. They would eat Slither, herself, if they didn't get any food!
I started to back away from the starving cats. I realised they had the same weird snake eyes like Slither, most yellow or green. One even had red eyes.
"Surrender." A voice echoed in my head.
"No, don't. You have a life to live." A sweeter, gentler voice resided.
More cats were closing in on me until suddenly, Slither was back.
The many cats did something strange, immediately pressing their faces in the dirt and cowering.
"You dare to defy our leader?" A black tomcat yowled, apparently shocked.
"Um I don't exactly know your... ways."
I stuttered.
"GET HER!" A deafening voice screeched.
"No escaping now, kitty."
Just as the evil snake cats were about to pounce with thorn-sharp claws, I could feel myself lifting. I didn't know what was happening. The chances of birds in a cave were slim and I didn't really like the idea of being turned into a giant monster birds meal. When I looked up, I saw something else.
A sharp fox-like face looked at me and my first thought was, 'what? Foxes don't fly! I must be going crazy,' but when I looked more closely, it had a black fuzzy body and thin, yellow eyes. On its back were two bony leathery wings.
And then I realized.
This wasn't a swooping bird or a cunning fox. This was a bat!
I would've been happy, other then the fact the bat had just flew out of that dusty cave and was now flying higher in the air. What if this bat ate cats?
It's spiny claws dug into my back and I winced as I felt blood start to trickle from them.
Ok. This was really confusing. Was this bat going to kill me or save me?
When it dropped me I knew I would die, becoming only one more crumpled pile of bones and fur on the forest floor.
