Humphrey was the very first hamster I ever had. My love for hamsters all started with this little one. The reason I picked the name Humphrey was because back then I was a fan of the "Humphrey" books. (A series about a classroom hamster that could read and write :)) So when my dad took me to the pet store, the first name that popped into my head was Humphrey!
I had Humphrey for almost two years. She was an amazing first hamster with a pleasant personality. The nice thing about her was that she was already so sweet, wouldn't bite, and I could pick her up easily. It was like she was already tame! She was the best little hammie, and I have so many great memories with her. <3
Sadly, after about one and a half years, Humphrey had somehow quickly gotten a very deadly disease, Wet Tail. At the time, (not even very long ago) I knew what it was, but had never thought about actually having a hamster that had Wet Tail, so I didn't know as much about it as I probably should have. Since I had to think quickly about the situation, I did all I could. I sprinted faster than I had ever sprinted before to the little family-owned pet shop in our neighborhood that (I remember) was just about to close, and I ran straight for the Oasis Wet Tail drops! These are not supposed to be the most effective, but I had to do something, and fast. When I got home. She was just too tired to even drink.
That night, we were able to get to the vet. (Thank goodness!) all the people there were very nice.
Unfortunately, Humphrey was already so close to crossing the rainbow bridge, that there was nothing they could do. And late at night around 10pm, she had passed, letting out a little squeak...
A/N: sorry if this is getting sort of sad. It's just something that is very vivid in my memory. I tried my very best to care for her. (I hope you understand!) PS, here is the good part...
...although this was a very sad moment, I wasn't sad. Instead, I cried tears of happiness! She could finally be free of Wet Tail (or whatever happened) and have no pain. I was totally not expecting to feel this way. I missed her, but this was a good feeling. A VERY good one.
From that day on, I absolutely love hamsters so much, and I hope I will always have them in my life! The ONLY reason that things like Wattpad ever started were because of Humphrey.
Thank you, Humphrey <3
