I slid off the bed and nearly stepped on Reuben. "Yikes. Hey Reuben." I said and he looked at me weakly. I stopped. He usually greeted me with a bark and a tail wag. "What's wrong?" I asked and I picked him up. 

He whined softly and Petra came over. She looked at Reuben quietly, picking up my mood. "We better bring him to the vet." She said suddenly and looked at me with those eyes. 

Reuben managed a feeble bark, as if agreeing with Petra. And I felt my heart ache. 

Hopefully... nothing was wrong with him. Hopefully my best friend would stay.
