I sat at Petra's dining table, with Axel, Olivia and Jess. We drank hot chocolate and waited for Petra and Jesse. Diesel, Petra's dad, hovered around, making us have second helpings of bacon and pancakes. 

Jesse had been sleeping ever since we brought him back. I was worried, at least. Jess, on the other hand, was making a smiley face in her pancakes with her fork. I watched silently as the steam from the pancakes wafted up from the holes. 

Jess smirked and snapped her fingers in my face, making me jolt. Axel snickered. Olivia was absentmindedly stacking tiny pats of butter on her plate, making the golden bars slip on each other. Reuben sat beside her, mesmerized. (and hopefully waiting for the pancakes to fall so he could eat it, I think) 

When Petra and Jesse came down, I leaned against the counter and Jess accidentally put her elbow in the syrup. I pretended not to see.

We were all nervous to see him but also relieved.
