PoV: 3rd Person

  Explosions and crashes could be heard around Eggman's base. It was a hard battle for the chaos emerald he had collected. That royal blue emerald that shone so brightly. The leader of the heroes, named Sonic, destroyed the capsule around the emerald and reached for it, but it was taken away by a robotic arm which wasn't afraid to be cut by the glass like any mobian.

"Hohohhohoho!" The fat man in the floating mobile laughed! He was known as Eggman and only feared by the machine programmed to fear him.

"Eggman!" The blue hedgehog growled the villains name, Sonic was determined to get the emerald away from Eggman, "You're not going to get away with this!"

"Oh but I have hedgehog! And you will pitty the day you lost to me!" Eggman cackled as he slammed his fist down on the dashboard of him Eggmobile. His fist sticking a yellow button too hard, and it was now jammed.

"Sonic the emerald!" A flying twin tailed kit shouted noticing the sound of cracking glass.

"Let go of emerald!" Sonic jumped to grabbed it as Eggman moved again, "Ah!" Sonic felt pain around his body so suddenly as a crack appeared in the blue emerald. It was

"Let the emerald go before you shatter it Eggman!" The red echidna threw a metal beam towards Eggman.

"Damn button," Eggman struggled to unstick the button desperately, he needed the emerald for his plan after all, "No! Stop crushing it!"

"Sonic we have to- Sonic..." the group stopped, Sonic was on his knees in pain, a sight they weren't familiar with.

  The young fox flew to his aid, yet found no injuries. His name was Tails, and he was Sonic's sidekick.

"I don't know what's wrong..." Sonic whimpered, his body had been chosen for a sacrifice. Of everyone there, he had the largest amount of chaos energy in his body, and the emerald was forcefully using it to keep from shattering.

"What's wrong with the faker?" The dark hedgehog who was battling for the emerald himself.

"I don't know," Tears began to pour from Tail's blue eyes. Sonic's pain only grew worse as more cracks formed. Eggmans couldn't get the button unstuck.

"Amy knock the emerald out of Eggmans machine!" Knuckles, the echidna, picked up the girl as she held her hammer. He threw her towards Eggman and she missed. The claw crushing the emerald shattered it before Amy could swing her piko-piko hammer.

"Tails..." that was the whisper that left Sonic's lips before he collapsed.

"Sonic..." the kit began to bawl as he suddenly left his partner go limp in his arms.

"NO!" Eggman cried in disbelief, he had lost the emerald he worked so hard for.

  The started particles of bluestone stopped in midair, glowing and slowly gathering.

"Sonic wake up. Come on," Tails shook him, trying to get the blue hedgehog's emerald eyes to open, "You always get up, please wake up. Sonic..."

"No, no no no!" Amy ran to Tails side, when she reached for Sonic Tails pulled him away from her, "He's fine right?"

"I can't feel it..." Tails was feeling for Sonic's pulse. He was desperate to find any heart beat from Sonic.

"We just need to get him to a Hospital," the white furred bat reached to touch Sonic and soon the found his body was glowing like the shards of the chaos emerald. There was a soft heartbeat in the small glowing orb in the center where the shards were circulating.

"Sonic!" Tails panicked as Sonic body scattered into droplets of light. Each drop merged with a shard, slowly the emerald pieced itself back together. Its glow pulse in time with Sonic heartbeat, which was now inside the emerald, "What happened... where is he?"

  Eggman remained silent as he reached to take the emerald.

"Hands off," The dark hedgehog stopped him and took the emerald, "You don't deserve it after that."

"He was right here..." Tails hugged his tails for comfort and Shadow handed him the emerald, which faintly held Sonic's heartbeat.

"I think we should leave," Knuckles picked up Tails as he hugged the emerald.

"Let's go," the group of heroes left the lair in ruins as they took Tails to the only comforting person they knew. Vanilla Rabbit. It the only person they knew would help comfortable Tails, and themselves.

  The only one who didn't follow, was the dark hedgehog named Shadow. He left, isolating himself for unknown reasons.

  Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Rouge, and Vanilla... they mourned their lost companion that night.
